Once the run currently finishing production land we will launch the next run which will deliver within a year.

Well as I model East Anglia and here have my reworked 409 and 424, I would hope that 716 is among the next Batch. That would be a must! I spoke to Graham Hubbard at the Great Central yesterday and seeing the prototype of 714 (plus securing a model I have preordered) the model looks stunning! 😊

I’m still running my mk2bs despite the fact my layout was set up for steam running . Can’t take them off the layout , which has prompted a layout reversion to BRBlue/Grey . These really are superb coaches and value for money too .while I run Airfix/Dapol Mk2ds I have to say if Accurascale were to produce these , replacement would be a no brainer . So while in the past I’ve said no need for 2d duplication - id certainly sign up now

    A mk2d to Accurascale standards is a must 👍🏻💯

So last Friday I decided that I was going to have another set of NSE coaches but this time it would be a full 9 coach Waterloo - Exeter set. Having looked through one of my friend's old spotting books I decided on a rake and then noted which build batch the TSOT came from.

For those slightly interested 118 Mk2C TSOs were built, of which the first 64 (5498 to 5561) had the style of toilet windows used in the Mk2, Mk2A and Mk2B builds. The remainder had toilet windows shorter in height so a vent could be placed above on one side, this is the style that Accurascale will be modelling.

The TSOT in the rake was 6503, which was originally 5510 so came from the first batch. Time, therefore, to start chomping away at an Accurascale Mk2B TSO to make and early style Mk2C TSOT.

First of all the roof vents were removed and 5 thou sheet used to make the access hatch on the roof.

    Mk2CTSOT(1)1.jpg.0c474da196fcfe1bb172bf83575a779f.jpg

The earliest Mk2C TSOs had two different style of roof vents before Roevac vents were finally decided upon, which were subsequently used on the air-conditioned Mk2 stock and the loco hauled Mk3 stock. The first vent style used is described in British Rail Mark 2 coaches as a 'G' vent, the next vent tried being a 'GM' vent. I assume these were G modified as they were very similar to a 'G' vent but shorter in height. Now a GM vent is near enough the same as an English Electric loco cab roof vent so a made up six of these (from Shawplan) and then added 20thou to increase the height, in order to simulate G vents. Most sane people probably wouldn't even care.

    Mk2CTSOT(2)1.jpg.f87310f4e140eb7fb583881353b1f645.jpg

These were then added to the roof and left to dry.

    Mk2CTSOT(3)1.jpg.f558117cf47acb7351bdf9ab8232ecee.jpg

I then turned to the interior and cut out one bay of seats and added a counter.

    Mk2CTSOT(4)1.jpg.44be8070baba162d1d00e63c26274dea.jpg

The roof was then primered, Archer's rivits were added to the edges of the roof hatches and then primered again. The small handles on the hatch were easier than expected (when a brand new drill bit is used).

    Mk2CTSOT(5)1.jpg.6ed6cdd8a07aa3e7ce2ff9150cc163e4.jpg

The screen between the counter area and the seating was made and painted and the rest of the interior also painted.  I could have smoothed things up a bit but more on that later.

    Mk2CTSOT(6)1.jpg.4c606f913e026fafd89dee5cfd0dcc86.jpg

So all the basic work had been done. A blast with Halfords matt black sorted the roof, a blanking screen for the window behind the counter and a strip stating Buffet for the window opposite, followed by a red stripe and a quick renumber and we have the below:

    Mk2CTSOT(7)1.jpg.3e7bf282694c7023c30c85a26c7c7158.jpg

    Mk2CTSOT(8)1.jpg.f9c450c9ef51b76878a6817f7596867e.jpg

    Mk2CTSOT(10)1.jpg.c95a35f61fcea53e9f1dcb9eac809f17.jpg

As for tidying up the interior wall before painting, you can't even see the counter let alone what the wall looks like!

All in all it took just under a week and I'm very happy with the result. Oh, and I've just straightened that footstep shown in the last photo.

Now, should it really be in this thread or the Mk2C one?

Well it originated from a 2B and it will be running with 2Bs, so I would say it belongs here! Very admirable work here.. impressive and fills another gap.

Subsequent to my previous post, I looked at the SEMG site and there was a pic of a BFK in NSE livery. Thanks go to all the posters with the information on the types and formations too.

Currently I have a mixed set based on nowhere in particular, with Bachmann Mark 1s in NSE livery (FK, CK, BSK, TSO), a Hornby Mark 2A TSO in NSE livery (flush glazing improved this one a bit), and a couple of Bachmann Mark 2A TSOs, one in NSE livery and the other in unbranded blue/grey. I realised that adding just the one Accurascale 2B TSO was going to stand out because of the lighting, with a Mk 2C TSOT pre-ordered to come later, meaning I would have to add lights to all the others, or make sure I always turned the lights off on the two Accurascale coaches. Hence, I put in the order for four more Accurascale coaches from AJM, so I only have two Bachmann Mk 2As to add lights to, and maybe the Hornby one, although I may retire that one and sell it.

I'll have to see about getting another BFK now, preferably in NSE livery.

Accurascale have sold out on MK2Cs on preorder, but some retailers still have them, so I would act fast as they seem popular.

The thing is, for whatever reason, the shade of paint they put on locos appears to be slightly darker than that if coaches so I think there should be a mismatch between loco and coach. Not sure that's the case with Bachmann ones (don't have an appropriate loco at the moment)

Like I said previously, I have painted 20 WCRC coaches including the oddball kitchen/luggage cars in BR Crimson and 2 locos in BR Maroon. The Crimson is a good match to the Accurascale MK2Bs. 12 coaches were for a friend in Yeovil and the other 8 Are with Benjamin Brady and featured at Warley in 2019 on their Weaver Hill Layout.

Looking at notes here I have one example was 17097 which is a 2A. There were not that many 2B BFKs so I would guess that 2As were more common. There were 48 x 2A BFKs but just 9 x 2Bs.

Edit: Just seen apollo 079's post above, so no 2B BFKs.

That's why for now, I have produced my own 2As in Network SouthEast livery. I also have west of England branded 2Cs on preorder. Until Accurascale release a quality MK2A, that will have to be the order of the day. Bachmann 2A body with all the Accurascale MK2b features...

I very recently ordered some more of the 2Bs, from a retailer who could still supply certain of the models. I wanted a Brake 1st, but the only one they have is an Inter-City branded version, whereas I want NSE branding, so I'll be doing the reverse of what you intend. 🙃

I'm not sure if NSE had Brake 1sts or downgraded them to Brake 2nds, but that's something I'll worry about later.

Might be worth looking at some of the old footage of the 50s on 8 mk2s at Waterloo and see how some of the consists are made up. There do seem to be two brake coaches and often a BFK in there.

I have watched plenty of YouTube footage and the set that seems to feature alot is a 9 coach rake, which comprises of TSO, TSO, TSO, BFK, TSOT, BFK, TSO, TSO, TSO, predominantly Mk2 A and B, with and without the TSOT, or a TSO missing. This is the set I am modelling. Bachmann 2A bodies on modified Accurascale Interior/chassis, mixed with MK2Bs, Just got to wait for the mk2c TSOT I have on preorder.

WCRC examples arrived with myself Friday.

I had a good look at these over the weekend to determine my overall thoughts. The more I look at these, the more I think that Accurascale have got the colour correct. And feel the camera does make them appear ever so slightly lighter than to the naked eye.

They must be the best RTR coaches we have seen in 00 gauge, the detail and precision on these is something else. The close couplings look and work wonderfully too. I am very much looking forward to the Mk2c’s in this livery to arrive on Greenford too!

*ps some MK2d’s would be very welcomed!

These look spot on! Yes lighting makes a difference. I have now been able to compare with previous repaints I have done and Railmatch crimson is near as damn it. Yes looking forward to the MK2C!

Hahaha.  I will be revisiting this thread regularly to see if that happens !!

As Accurascale now have the 64 foot Mk2 bodyshell in CAD that makes a lot of sense.  On the other hand all the doors and windows would need redrawing, as well as the underframe and gangways etc . In a strange kind of way and from a commercial point of view, perhaps Accurascale would market and sell the XP64 coaches more successfully. Were there only two bodyshell variants with two different versions of the doors - original and modified.

Perhaps Brian MacDermott could give us an idea how often the XP64 vehicles have appeared in the polls, and maybe what kind of rating ?  Also, are there any XP64 vehicles left in 1:1 scale ? From what I can make out there are three. Two at the Wensleydale railway, ex NYMR, and one remaining at the Dean Forest railway at Lydney.

Accurascale Mk2a BFK and TSO... yes we need some of these... 👍🏻

Just checking, but you know the prototype mk2a is 8 inches shorter than the mk2b/2c? This would account for 3mm which is probably ‘within tolerance’ of your measurements.

I have a good number of the new Mk2bs. They are very nice and I agree that the Bachmann Mk2a struggles to hold its own next to them. For me, the main issue is the roof differences though (primarily the rain strip height - Bachmann too low) and not the length difference.

    Guy

It seems to sit fairly good on the Accurascale chassis and in the case of the length all good then! (Didn't realise to be fair) Had to take a couple of mm of the nem pocket for close coupling. An Accurascale one would be nice though!

  12. @Accurascale Fran @McC My MK2B coaches have finally arrived! What a credit to you all at Accurascale for producing these fine coaches! Everything has been thought out, detail, too much to mention, not seen on other RTR models. The best part for me though is the interior! These are second to none!

Anyway, I had detailed a few Bachmann MK2As, to make a prototypical rake, but to be honest, comparing the two, the MK2a is definately inferior. So the modeller in me came up with a plan....

But of alteration, with the Bachmann body being 4mm too short and resprayed roof/ends, but retains all of the Accurascale features!

Hopefully until there is a future release, i will have to make do with my improvised version...
