  1. This looks really fun! Did I read somewhere that the LD&ECR planned to go between Buxton and Macclesfield? So you might be able to add that in and play with that a bit?
  2. why does the fluorescent light in the loft seem to change the colour of scenery and stock?!

All to do with the magic of light temperatures - have a look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_temperature

For photting, you need to replace your tubes with daylight tubes. 64K off the top of my head.

That is very helpful guys - thanks very much - I didn't even realise that there might be a solution!

I must have meant 54ooK, but look here for more info about buying tubes - I'm going to get a new set soon for my shed to replicate the lighting in the location I am modelling

  3. Had an email from Hattons to say that they're here!
  4. Nice to see the lesser known East Anglian mountain range st the end. One of nor folks best kept secrets!
  5. Fitted the decoder and ran mine this morning. The running is very quiet and smooth - I'm very impressed. However, it doesn't like the code 100 single slip except at very low speed, though it's got a bit better the number of times it's gone through it. Interesting to see it next to the 9F!
  6. Just opened the Garratt - I also had a loose filler cap but everything else was in order - I'll have to fit the chip and run her in tomorrow. Shame about the massive numbers, but other then that it's a very nice model :-)
  7. Is it 26 loaded mineral wagons the limit for a 5MT? I can't remember off the top of my head. It's to do with braking reather then power requirements.
  8. You wouldn't want to fall down the hill above the station! Make sure you tell the cameraman to stay safe ;-)
  9. I thought that the numbers seemed a tad on the large side though I didn't know if it was my eyes - thanks for confirming.
  10. Great Stuff Al - I think you've captured blasted Limestone really well. Will you be doing any outcropping stuff as well? I've got that challenge myself so I am looking forward to stealing more of your ideas soon ;-)
  11. No worries Al - wasn't a big deal! It's a funny looking portal the north end. Just to let you know it seems like Over the Peak part 2 by J M Bentley is out now at Booklaw and Bill Hudson...will have to send mum and dad to Matlock before they come to visit :-)
  12. Check out trains 12's stuff on Great Tunsley dale by searching on here. When I spoke to him he even mentioned purple :-)
  13. That looks really good Al - It really nails the texture of blasted rock. I just wonder if it needs to be a slight bit browner then grey-er?
  14. Over the Peak pt 1 has some pictures of the N end of Dove Holes - I'll try to have a look later and get back to you. It's well worth while investing in a copy of that book!
  15. I stuck to trailing points for the reason that the storage sidings can be longer and it's cheaper...and I justified it by being prototypically Midland. I suppose that it's good to have a head shunt too, though I use the mainline for that! I do have facing points on the mainline in the fiddle yard though so I can get the stock to change lines more easily. I'm also landscaping the fiddle yard too though...Having said all that - Earles sidings are one ended!
  16. Just a note Rob to say thanks for the photos - It's really great to see the beast from so many angles and in a 'natural setting too'. I do appreciate you taking the time to share this stuff with us. Certainly makes me look forward to getting my BR one when it arrives!
  17. HI Rob - there is a model of Hasland out there done by the Wingfield Model Railway Club - enjoy! http://www.wingfieldrailwaygroup.co.uk/Page_3.html
  18. I look forward to seeing the pictures Rob once you've worked your magic with them. Just been comparing the models to the pictures in the irwell volume. The BRITISH RAILWAYS one looks right but the LMS block style numbers seem a tad big to me. Maybe it's my eyes though. I can't find a reference pic for the plain tank loco though.
  19. I'm sure it will - I imagine that the BR emblem ones are going to be the most popular.
  20. I think they had one of the BR pre-prods running - there are vids on the Hornby Magazine Facebook site.
  21. Thanks for taking the time to do the photos rail-online - that's really kind of you. Hope it gets replaced for you with a good one soon. :-)
  22. there is another of Richards videos where it also pushes another train with that load on its back still. The other train is hauled by another (Australian? S African?) Garratt which i have a nagging feeling has a sound chip in it...It might be that I'm wrong though and it is from an onbaord or external source! Whatever, it sounds great!
  23. Thanks for the photos - hope you get it worted out soon rail-online. One thing with Hattons in my experience is that they are very good at replacing stuff. Hopefully your problems are more of a one off. I'm waiting for the rotating bunker so I've got a while yet! Someone mentioned it before, but is the canvass cover over the coal bunker removable at all please? I would be surprised it it didn't!
  24. Happy first birthday Peter Carding :-)
