  5. Hi, Just picked up on you posting and very impressed with your work. With regard to the laser cutting, can you tell me please exactly what type of plastic you are using in the laser. I've successfully cut card for windows and some other stuff but I'm very interested in using plastic. Cheers

    Bath anyone?

Thank you Mikkel, It's was made quickly this week an amalgam of two Peco Modelscenes Period vehicles, the Maudslay bus and a Thornycroft GWR lorry which were some more items found in my boxes, I suppose it could be a Thornymaud ! I just felt like doing something slightly different but using that oft maligned "modellers licence" to make a vehicle look of the age. When you look through Kelly's book, Road Vehicles of the GWR, there are seemingly so many variables and colour schemes/ liveries I reckon I'm safe ! Yes the baskets are great, saves making them but a real devil of a job to get hold of ! As you say, the detailing adds to the overall flavour I feel and sets the whole scene ultimately. I do love Andrew Staddens figures they are some of the best on the market I feel. Hope he brings some period railway figures out...... SOON ! Kind regards Grahame Happy modelling

    Bath anyone?

Well........ Following on from last Saturday nights party at Lady Farquhars house ( my blog It's Saturday night) the good folk seemed to get on pretty well, especially dancing to Mr.F.B.Slim's music on the two gramophone decks ! On the way home from the party several of them decided to club together and arrange a days swaree by taking the omnibus to the nearby elegant city of BATH. My man Perk toddled down to the local station and asked for an omnibus to pick up a small party outside the cottage this morning. True to their word the GWR sent along transport ! Well, I'm not too sure if the ladies in the party were very impressed with what they saw ! Upon enquiring with the motor man who was sent to drive them, they were told that the vehicle had been hastily procured through Messrs. Bodge & Kitt, a local coach building firm. The vehicle had been sent to them following an agreement with the management at Swindon to re-body and overhaul the chassis. It had lain in the yard for several months, some in boxes I believe and it had been considered for scraping upon receipt. Very little time had been given to the refurbishment so it was sent out "as is" for use today. I'm not sure the ladies and gents would come back too clean......... Looks like it might be a dirty weekend for these good folk ? Well, upon hindsight it may have been more prudent to take the local train......... I think Perks might have some explaining to do to her Ladyship too, humph !! Happy modelling everyone, happy modelling.
  11. All what they ^ said and more ! A very relaxing 7 minutes and time well spent in my humble opinion. Two of your models take me to the places where happy memories abound...... Chester my home county city and the Post Office, just a stones throw from The Arthurian Castle of Tintagel. Thank you Allan.
  12. All the above AND MORE ! Such poetry.......time to open up the cylinders now ! Breathtaking modelling congratulation you've made something to be very proud of, Massive pat on the back. Grahame
  13. Hi Ian Wuff, bark! Rover needs a good run ! Thanks for your input, I've tried many processes including fine dental powder but as you say, those curves hmmm? I'll get there when I start the BG stuff eventually. Cheers Happy modelling Grahame
  14. Hi Jim, Thank you for looking and you kind words, I'm hoping it might stir a few good folk to get those cupboards and boxes open again and bring a smile/ memories back and maybe just maybe start/ finish that kit / project hmmmm I wonder ? If, just if you see a River kit anywhere I would be very interested ! Happy modelling Grahame
  15. Gaup, Gaup and Gaup again Sir Douglas, you are very very welcome and thank you for looking at my blog. There are 3 Rovers ready to be built, and I would be the first to gloat over them as they stretch their pistons ! Cheers
  16. This is starting to become a habit ! So.........more boxes and memories which I hope the good members of this parish don't mind me posting. First off.........My attempt at producing some mixed gauge track in the GWR change over period with a hare brained idea that it might make track laying easier ? Oh! How wrong I was ( I don't think Margate or Beer manufacturers have anything to worry about!) A master was made about 12" long and then a flexible ? rubber mould was made of this. The chosen casting medium was a two part plastic which seemed to work but I wasn't convinced with the final product, mainly due to the curing process ( which is only about 10 minutes) however, some pieces would have a slight bow and also it wasn't easy to keep the gauge right with the albeit slight shrinkage. Ah well back to the drawing board ! Next up ..........My very first scratch built locomotive , a Bristol & Exeter Railway Avonside Engine Co. 4-4-0 which operated all over the South west. Bit of an ugly brute but that's what I love about it. And finally for now........... My unfinished model of a BG Rover ( these make me drool- no apologise ) with a motor in the tender and DCC chip. It's lovely watching the tender whizz off along the test track on its own!! Right that's it for now.......this place is full of boxes any I can't get through! Happy modelling p.s. Please excuse the quality of the photos ( iPad jobby I'm afraid)
  17. Hi Ian, I'd tend to agree with your view on this, I tried with one of mine and once the paint was fully hardened I plucked up the courage, took a new scalpel blade and with extreme care ran it around the mouldings. Not sure it was too successful but even the bits you could see didn't make that much difference in 4mm. Good luck and........no alcohol before attempting it !! Ha ha Grahame
  18. Yes I'd love to see one on my track, perhaps we should suggest it to Knobhead of this parish, see if he's up for it in one of his projects ? When I saw the photograph I was drawn to it and out came the kit ! There are so many loco's in that era which to me are " eye-candy" for someone interested in that time frame. May I thank you for taking the time and effort to send your extremely useful and informative replies, it's very much appreciated. Grahame
  19. Hi Nick, Agreed, I'd like to get hold of a River or maybe scratch build one. Not sure but I think one was produced by Peter K kits ( Kemilway now sell his range but can't see it in the list. That said I ordered a GWR footbridge kit about 3 months ago and I'm still waiting unfortunately ! It's all down to the etching co. apparently. Meanwhile I'll tickle up my scratch built one). Not too certain about the winged smoke box plate but mine is modelled on a photograph I came across many moons ago. Kind regards Grahame
  20. Hi Ian, Thank you, there is something about that era, "La Belle
  21. Another box, another day.......... That word Box keeps cropping up ? In answer to yesterday's request I've found this to place at the front of the rake ( another unfinished locomotive, but hey! life can take over sometimes!) Barnum Class locomotive ( with bonnet placed forward ) built from a Mallard kit in about 1991 I think? And these are as requested by CK ........it's not finished yet Captain so bear with me ! ( it's lit inside with levers etc. They've still to be weathered n'stuff Happy modelling everybody, happy modelling
  22. Total agree with Mikkel , I've looked at this many times and it has given me a great deal of encouragement to start mine again ( as has Mikkels Farthing Saga) brilliant Mr.B.Ten ! Happy modelling !
  23. Hi Mike, Thanks, yes seems to set them off, I've seen it in archives in the dim and distant past, it's either deliberate or just muck! Cheers & happy modelling !
  24. Hi Wenlock, Oh! Such delights, now wouldn't that be a sight for sore eyes! Best I can manage at the moment is an unfinished Barnum, I'll see what can be arranged. Cheers
  25. I've found this range of products to be by far the best with which to achieve the excellent affects you've produced, and with some care and time it's possible to get there. The range may not be labeled for use railway modellers but with a little judicial choosing they can work extremely well. Excellent use and beautiful models.
