  1. As the title says. I did ask something similar (though not worded in the same way) some time back. Basically I've built a spray booth in my garage workhop/layout area, but I have yet to install an extractor fan. I'm led to believe that (and please excuse me if I don't use the correct technical terms) fans which have their motor in the airstream are a definite no-go area, as fumes could be ignited? Or is this a 'elf & safety' issue that is out of proportion? Otherwise a fan blade has to be installed in the extractor outlet, with the motor mounted outside of the airflow? What is available that is suitable, where can it be found, and at what price?
  2. Grandad had a Ford V8 Pilot (which I learnt to drive in). Maybe some prewar influence from America there though?
  3. Going ever-so-slightly ot here I'm afraid. I think it was on here we had a link to the Wellingborough loco that did a brake van railtour, 78038 was it? Not a Q about the loco, but the train; would the vans be piped (like passenger stock, or would they be loose-coupled on this tour?
  4. Did they also have magnahesion so they didn't fall off the tracks?
  5. I have all the books mentioned above, but can't at the moment get at them. But a while back I did some extensive photo checks and came to the conclusion that all locos worked the same way round - steam and diesel - so it is easy to check which direction the train is heading. I think it was chimney first to Upwell? Best to check though. Other things I noted included the passenger brake at the same end, never changing ends to return. Also as a local, I recognise all the scenes in the pics. I remember the line in existence, saw wagons in the depots, but never a moving train nor a loco!
  6. Who makes this Fitness coach? Is it Hornby, Bachman, or a limited edition from Kernow?
  7. A beautiful loco, and a stunning restoration. But it so reminds me of that loco at Legoland Windsor for some reason!
  8. FR also ued used oil from cars. I remember a local group collecting it (there were many diy oil changes done by drivers in those days, much more than nowadays). The local group then passed it on to the F.
  9. I recently had similar misfortunes at Huntingdon I prebooked my train tickets for a Cheap Day Return to KGX, collect from ticket machine at the station So I drove to Huntingdon, to find everything changed since my commuting days. New road layout/new entrance to station car park/ (& the A14 bridge over the top removed). Eventually got parked. I was about 50 ft from the ticket office door but had to walk right round a fence blocking the way but that was the easy bit. I got in to the ticket machine and retrieved my train tickets, then the fun began.... Walking back out to the car park, I went looking for a ticket machine. NONE, just notices saying get an app on your phone. Fine - I have a Windows phone, they don't do an app for that. {I won't go near anything Apple, and having to put up with Android whilst at work, I won't touch that either). I don't do phone internet either, most use of the phone is receiving calls. I could ring a number, but wasn't sure how much credit I had. Knowing how long these calls can take I headed back to the ticket office. Now when I was commuting, the car park was run by another operator rather than the railway, and I was able to get a car park ticket from the machine, but not any more now. Next call was the guy in the office. "We don't have anything to do with that, it's a private company". Great, so what can I do? "Phone app or ring them" Told him I didn't have a phone (not strictly true, but I didn't have a suitable one). "Use a PC online then". Yeah right, I carry one with me, my train is in 10mins, can I use yours? No reply as he walked away.. So I drove out, parked in the council car park about 400yds away. The final rub - 1/2 the price of the station car park. (And I was on a CHEAP DAY return, correctly catching the train at the right time, but the car park charge didn't go to cheap rate until an our later). No wonder people desert the railway & drive.
  10. I honestly can't remember, probably went for the cheapest on the shelf, and the inish (matt/satin/gloss) that I felt appropriate. The principle was that the varnish sealed the model without discolouring it.
  11. Not mentioned so far is the use of steel track., which rusts quickly in a bad environment. Once rusted throw it away.
  12. Just a couple of points? Out of interest only, do we know where the cars were rebuilt? (I have my suspicions but I'm not wanting to spread any rumours!). People saying no-one is asking about the state of people involve. Well, we;'ve had reports about that, nothing else to be said. As for the rolling stock, we've had plenty of media hype, but little factual engineering statement, that is why questions are asked.
  13. Absolutely brilliant! Many thanks for this, somehow I missed that one. Now downloaded and installed, with a copy saved ion my dedicated 'G' drive that I keep these downloads on. RWWeb scores again!
  14. I've had this issue on my desktop for a few weeks. But it occurred randomly, across whatever site I was visiting. I did initially think an odd RMWeb issue - I'm probably more on here than anywhere else; I tried many avenues to fix it and was even visited by BT (their call) about an issue with the landline! Yesterday, trying some more things via Control Panel, I came across a new test that showed recent faults (I can't remember the test but could probably find it again). This showed the C drive disk had paused on a number of recent occasions. I fitted a new drive yesterday and have been rebuilding the PC, all seems well and very much faster! Coincidence probably, who knows?
  15. Bit of a long story. I've been using Claris Works for many a year. I've kept up with the newer versions over the years, as I've used it for a particular (rail related) project database. (It has certain options that I like in my project). This week I've had to change my C drive as it was beginning to fail - caught it in time!. I've now got the new drive 99% up and running, but can't find my copy of AppleWorks (I possibly downloaded it rather than a hard copy). AppleWorks was the later version of Claris after being taken over by Apple. I've managed to download an update to v6.2, which claims to update v6.0 to the final(? version, but that won't do anything without the main program (v6.0) installed. And that of course, seems to be unavailable on the web.... Doesn't anyone know where I can download it, or even have a copy they could forward to me? I've tried ebay, some Mac versions available (apparently it was well liked in the publishing trade), but nothing for windows that I can find. Reasonable costs paid.
  16. That can't be real, it must be a new Accurascale model in 1:1 scale! Preservation at its best, I take back all I said and thought about the NRM decision to give it away. It may not be GER, but it is beautiful.
  17. Back to the topic of coreless: Could it become a standard spec that manufactures label their models (catalogue of packaging) so as to specify when coreless is used? In the same way as they specify DCC.
  18. ebay, CDC models, also known as Street Level Models (haven't seen it on the latter website). It was mentioned onRMWeb 2-3 weeks ago, I went straight to Ebay.
  19. Kitmaster coaches - or to be pedantic, the Peco interiors - had detailed toilets which couldn't be seen behind frosted windows. Now that must have been late 50s?
  20. As received in RTR condition. All I've done is attach the handrails, and use a Bachmann dmu (?) coupling to the loco, thus moving the Hornby Ward coupler to the outer end of the tender. I've also painted the shoebeams white,
  21. Not wanting to tread on anyones toes, but CDC have done a 3d print and I bought one off ebay last week. If you want a pic, I'll post it here.
  22. Or even contact the GE Society. There is a list produced showing items available to GER modellers. Mine is not to hand otherwise I would look.
  23. To keep my records straight, can we please confirm whether the motor is a coreless or not?
