  1. Yes, that is a mirror to enable the driver to see the Platform Train Interface on a DOO working.
  2. EFE did it on their 1938 stock models so in 4mm scale there is no need to worry.
  3. I am not getting any sound from the webcam at present! Has anyone else got the same problem? EDIT - As soon as I posted the sound came back! Makes you worried what else they know you are doing!
  4. A very good layout. If they had shown a double slip at least it would have been possible to run the layout but with a plain diamond it makes the whole thing a nonsense! I must follow your link and find out more.
  5. A very enjoyable issue but I do wish magazines would have accurate track diagrams. Poldeen is shown with a diamond crossing which makes the layout unworkable but the photos show two back to back points which make it an excellent plan.
  6. Not only does it have the train but also the footbridge. Many thanks for sharing.
  7. I too will be watching this with great interest. I love the IOW railways and the footbridge over Cowes station (it connected a footpath not the platforms) is now at Medstead & Four Marks on the Mid Hants Railway which I volunteer on. It will be very interesting to see the bridge in the original setting.
  8. It has to be remembered that the numbers of coaches required to run prototypical services and the numbers sold by a model shop will be totally different! I can still remember when I first started with Tri-ang TT and my mainline trains were three coaches long! They were all Composite, Restaurant, Brake 2nd. No real railway would ever have as many Restaurant cars as Composites and Brake 2nd's but I bet a lot of layouts run by under 15's do!
  9. Interesting comment about not showing double aspect. On the London Underground it is normal that signals do show double aspect when changing and a double aspect is a Stop signal. Even the National Rail signals at Southfields show double aspect.
  10. I had a good day on the Severn Valley Railway today. Thought some people would like to see the new coal powered shunter!
  11. I see mention of the OO Lima 0-4-0 diesel shunter. They did the same thing in N but it was about double the width of any other N gauge loco. Perfect for my 009 layout with a modified cab which was just the old cab roof cut off and some matchsticks added to make pillars with some plastic card for a front and back sheet to protect the driver. A quick repaint and I had a new loco on the roster for about a quarter the price of anything then available in 009. Sadly that was 40+ years ago and I no longer have any 009 due to my first wife deciding it should all be sold!
  12. I wanted a 2 rail version so it can run with my modern Bachmann and Hornby units. Put it on track alongside one of the modern units, stand three feet away and it is hard to believe it is 60 year old technology, it just looks so good.
  13. As a teenager I found an advert in Railway Modeller for second hand models at an address in Wimbledon. A whole room in the flat was filled with second-hand stock and I was soon a regular which meant I also got to see the owners wonderful Hornby Dublo 3 rail layout. My favourite train on it was the EMU and this last week I have finally become the owner of a 3 car set, although 2 rail. The room in a flat soon became Platform Two in Wimbledon Broadway and the supplier of my EMU was Wheels of Steel, sadly now only online and not in Grey's Antiques Market near Bond Street.
  14. Earlier the loco had gone by light engine. I think it is the loco that does the local round to the Del Monte yard each day. Once when I was watching it came out of Del Monte and went across the crossings so there must be another yard close by. I must have a look on google earth to see how close it is.
  15. I must be lucky as the pictures were very clear on my old mobile phone! A very nice job and one that will give lots of people ideas!
  16. Southern had and still has third rail, very little overhead electrification on the Southern Region.
  17. Not allowed dusters, the cleaners are the only ones who can have a duster!
  18. Many thanks for the replies which mean that my class 110 DMBC and TSL will now run with my class 108 DMC(L) as a three car unit untill I can find the extra cars to complete the two units correctly.
  19. Well the last few days may have been quiet on both lines but they have both made up for that today. More trains running than I think I have ever seen before.
  20. Some very nice photos that gave a very good indication of how good an event it has been. I did not go as I am not a great lover of Flying Scotsman, to me it is just another steam engine but I know others love following it and that is the joy of having a choice. I find it very sad that people have to complain so much about prices for all things railway. We all know just how much had to be spent on Flying Scotsman to get it back to the condition it is in now and all the other locos you see at preserved lines around the country also cost a fortune to keep in working order. The only way to pay for them is to charge to see them and travel behind them. I think in the circumstances the Bluebell social media team may have been wise to have closed down when things started to get nasty and waited a week, the noise would soon have gone away. I am looking forward to visiting the Bluebell soon but for a normal two train service day. Before that I have a day on the Mid Hants as Guard on Friday with that well known little blue engine that people treat like Marmite! Glad you had a good day and thanks for sharing the photos.
  21. This seems like the best place to ask a question about first generation DMU's so here I go! Has anyone got a photo of a class 110/108 mixed unit? Thanks in advance if anyone can find me such a formation. Chris
  22. Hope your back is feeling a lot better and all the best with rules, I have never liked them on London Underground or Mid Hants Railway!
  23. I would agree that from the end of the tunnel to the station was four or more tracks but that is under a train length. The tunnel is double track.
  24. There is a siding that goes a short way into the tunnel on the right hand side as you leave Marylebone and there looks to be space going into the tunnel for two more tracks on the left but that space is only about a carriage long and then the tunnel narrows down. There is no space for any extra lines at the other end of the tunnel.
