  1. That has been going on for a few days now. I see they had MOW out in force this afternoon!
  2. Good to see that issue three is available and a very quick look through it makes me think there is plenty of interesting articles to study over the next few weeks. I just wish they would alter their banner as it says that it is published three times a week which has not been true for over six months! I know they are busy trying to get the whole thing working but having the old banner still in place does not look good.

I have never been a lover of stuffed and mounted railway equipment, steam or otherwise, but Train Story on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway and the Engine House on the Severn Valley do a very good job of displaying items that cannot be used and keeping them away from weather that will rot them if stood in a siding. It is very important that preserved lines find a way to keep most of their stock undercover to reduce the cost of restoration and also to give visitors more to see than just what is running on the day of your visit. Let's hope that the Swanage Railway can store and display under the right conditions very soon.
  5. Maybe we should all agree to use the "friendly/supportive" button as the groan button in this thread on the basis that people who tell jokes that need a groan need all the support they can get!
  6. We should all be glad that the Thameslink 2000 EMU's have not been produced. I almost had to find dark glasses on the last night at Moorgate.
  7. An interesting little train today! Seems to be making a daily appearence at the moment!
  8. An advert showing a picture of a model that is not available from the source that is advertising it is useless in my book. If the US items have not been added to the site then don't use pictures of US items in the advert, use pictures of items that are available.
  9. I received an email extolling the virtues of the new Hornby International section on the Hornby website. The email was full of pictures of very nice Burlington and other railroads diesels. As I have a small interest in USA railroading, I clicked on the link and was taken to the Hornby website which again had nice pictures of US diesels. But when you click on all the links within the site there are no US based stock to be found! So having got my hopes up Hornby have annoyed me and I will be unsubscribing to their useless emails.
  10. I saw an OO9 layout many years ago with two Dolgoch's double heading a train at an exhibition.

Interesting today the UP trains going East have the normal two or three locos on the front and some have one at the rear but going West I have seen two with five locos at the front and two with four at the front and the trains did not appear any longer than usual. I suspect that UP are using the trains to move spare locos to where they are short of locos!
  12. Watch out for engineering work as London Overground use it quite a bit when they have bits of their line closed. I have managed to do it twice in the last few years.
  13. Holybourne Oil Terminal between Bentley and Alton closed in September 2016 as the oil now goes by pipeline. The tankers are currently stored in the two sidings that were used to load them.
  14. It BNSF want to know where some of their container wagons are I can confirm they are in the Union Pacific train with the twins at the front!

  16. About 10 minutes ago a Union Pacific train came towards the camera hauled by four locos. The first was in UP yellow, the second and third in CSX blue and the fourth also had the CSX blue but with the lettering blanked out in a grey primer looking colour. Should have taken a screenshot of it but as always managed to think too slowly!
  17. I was talking to some of the GCR volunteers at the end of January gala and they said that the problem of running services off the branch would cost in the region of £100,000. I do not know if this figure is right but it is an awful lot more than is being asked for. It would be good to know what the GCR think it will cost and if they support the fund raising now being done.

  19. A short time after this topic appeared I saw that a Bachmann class 108 DMU was for sale that had originally been weathered and used on Tetley Mills by the late Dave Shakespeare. I ordered it immediately and this morning got the best packed model railway item I have ever received. I am so glad Buy and Sell did not close a week earlier!
  20. I used classifieds two or three times and have used Buy and Sell three times. In fact I bought an ex Tetley Mills Class 108 today through Buy and Sell. All transactions on both systems went smoothly. I have also used eBay on many occasions and except for two losses in the post which the sellers sorted out in no time I have had smooth transactions there as well. All three systems are only as good as the people who use them and RMweb needs to find a system that works for them and us. I wish Andy all the best in sorting something out in due course but I for one understand that he really has a lot more important things to do!
  21. Well there was nothing to stop her removing a tree stump if that is what she wanted to do. You could have had a nice time at the show keeping out of her way!
