  1. If you order via the we from Kernow then the system takes payment at the time of the order and then refunds it one or two days later. This means that you can show that an order for something costing the amount of the debit was made and I am sure Kernow would then be able to trace what you ordered and when it was or will be delivered.
  2. Reading this as I have done since the start makes me glad that I got rid of my car back in 2004 and now use trains to go on my trips around the country. Even when I was driving I found that the rule of Mirror - Indicator - Manouvre was used outside large cities but inside the M25 and other large cities it changed to:- Manouvre - Jump into the gap before anyone else does! Indicator - To let everyone know what you have just done! Mirror - To see how big a pile up you have caused! Trains are so much nicer!
  3. Going back to the Yellow/black shunt signals. The Mid Hants has two, one on the shed exit road at Ropley and one on the yard exit at Medstead and Four Marks.
  4. I gave up driving and sold my car in 2005 as I live in London and use trains all the time. Perhaps someone who still drives can tell me when it became part of the Highway Code to accelerate hard when the lights turn Yellow at junctions and when did it become legal for cyclists to just keep going when the Green Man for pedestians is lit?
  5. You will have fun making the scale cigarettes but I am sure someone will tell you they are either over scale or the wrong colour!
  6. I visited the old shop once and have been to the new shop three times now. Always go intending not to spend any money but I always walk out with a new or secondhand loco. Nice owner who is happy to chat and prices are on a par with the box shifters if you remember to take into account the postage the box shifters have to charge.
  7. There is direct access from Kidderminster National Rail to Bewdley and stations to Bridgenorth. You only need to reverse to access Kidderminster Town SVR.
  8. Ecclesbourne Valley are not connected although the tracks are very close. Would need some work on providing the signalling to allow them to be joined to NR and doing that is not cheap!
  9. The old ones are the best, so they say!
  10. Forgive me for being slightly more stupid than usual, but Hornby say they are producing right and left handed versions of three diagrams! To me that makes six new models not five as they say. Which one are they not producing? Edited for smelling pistakes!
  11. Ah, the short version of joke 3260.
  12. The copy I have says it is the 2015 Layout Annual. The plans cover Aldeburgh, Builth Road, Severn Valley Railway at Highley, Isle of Wight, Manitoba Quays, Oakworth and Weymouth.
  13. The plan you are looking for is "Manitoba Quays" which in the printed edition is on pages 86 to 92. Hope that helps you.
  14. In the late 50's and early 60's the milk train to/from Vauxhall ran from Wimbledon via East Putney so as to be on the right side of the tracks when arriving/departing Vauxhall. It was steam hauled until about 1962 or 1963 after which I lost interest in it! I got in trouble at school for being more interested in the steam train than the lessons and when I was at home never missed its pasing as our house backed onto the District line just south of Southfields. 15. The shop in Wimbledon Broadway was at 118 Wimbledon Broadway and called Platform Two. John Shimwell, who ran it wanted to call it SPQR, the old Roman sign but the owners of the building did not like the idea. SPQR stood for Silly Prices, Quick Returns in John's mind. He had run a secondhand business from home before the shop and had a wonderful Hornby Dublo 3 rail layout that filled one room. When he opened the shop he was the sole person Monday to Friday but on Saturdays he employed two school kids who had been frequent visitors to his home during the early days. I was one of those kids and the other was Peter but I cannot remember his second name.
  16. Just like to add my thanks to both Kernow and Royal Mail. I ordered a Class 419 Motor Luggage Van on Monday evening via the web and it was delivered safely on Wednesday morning. Well packed and quick service.
  17. Started going Stock Car racing at West Ham for the 1959 British Drivers championship and have been going all over the country to Spedeworth, BriSCA and other meetings ever since. Started watching Speedway in 1957 at Wimbledon after having been taken by my parents to Rye House aged three months in 1954. Love both sports and currently looking forward to Wimbledon on 5th October when the 2014 Superstox World Final takes place along with V8 Stock Cars and Bangers.
  18. Chuffs was just around the corner from my workplace in the City of London and it had lots of rather over priced items that would have been of interest if they had been a little bit more reasonable! They had a large number of Eggerbahn 009 loco's which were priced at £5 each when the going rate at most other shops was £3. I went in to buy two of them but found all eight I tried caused a short circuit so told them I did not want them. The guy who was serving me then proceeded to take one of them apart and put it back together to see if he could find the fault but when he put it on the track the short circuit was still there so he offered them to me for £1 each. I suppose I should have told him not to put the wire between the two brushes back but I soon got rid of those wires on the way home and had eight very good locos for my narrow gauge system!
  19. No they normally only have five reverse gears!
  20. You only need one to change the bulb if her name is Suzi Quatro.
