  1. When it comes to pricing many factors affect the end figure, speaking to my retailer for example the profit margins are not the same for each manufacturer and can vary quiet a bit and Direct selling has a big impact. Every Bachmann models is only sold via retailer network so has to have their margin in price. Selling even 50% of your products direct means prices can be lower. My local shop really appreciate that Bachmann only sell through shops and brings customers through the door.
  2. My sound fitted ATW arrived in Scoonie Hobbies on Thursday along with new batch of class 105's but could be other shops getting deliveries this week. Hopefully pick it up at the weekend.
  3. Now there one for Hornby the Panini sticker collection, you favourite models in sticker form and collectors album. I can just see it now on the rmweb us moaning and complaining about the models they pick for the collection and there being nothing in the sticker range for me😅
  4. I just hope they make enough my tier 1 retailer has been given an allocation and it's not huge only 3 of each livery. Not great if your wanting a block train🤔. He is hoping to increase it so I will have to wait and see if he can get 15 shell wagons.
  5. Hopefully we might get some 52'6 teaks to go with them? I remember building a resin bodied cooper craft kit and they really stand out as mini gresley coaches. Although I'm still waiting on Hornby doing the EV stock 🤔
  6. They arrived about 4 o'clock on Thursday night and all sold by lunch time today! Anybody thinking about ScotRail version should act now as I can these going for silly money on eBay in the very near future. Mine has gone to Santa and he better not stick it on ebay😂
  7. Bachmann are opening a tin of coronation blue paint and we are to watch it dry. It's still more exciting than Hornby's big announcement 🤣
  8. Just got word my ScotRail 158 on it's way to Scoonie hobbies in next couple of days, that's crimbo sorted🎅
  9. I've just had message from my local shop my 2 analogue Scottish 37/4s are due in stock in next couple of days.
  10. Speaking to Steve my local shop owner and he was saying his biggest sellers are now diesels rather than steam. The sound fitted are very popular and class 47 have been selling well. Another consideration is the last guy to come in and ask about starting hobby who has recently retired stated he wanted 70's and 80's diesels as that's what he remembers running. Looks to be a good decision from Bachmann.
  11. The other way of looking at this is the fact the numbers of diesel classes is lower actually means you sell more, if you are a modeling say steam era in say Cornwall you buy mainly GWR loco's, modelling Anglia you buy LNER, modelling North West you buy LMS or Kent you buy SR. nor depending on time from 1923 to 1968 some locos might be too late or too early for you or wrong part of that system. Yes some areas had cross over and you also had BR standards crossing regions. Now take the class 47 for example from 1963 to present modeler's in every region across most time frames will need one and many will take multiple in various liveries. So even with duplication and many versions already produced the number bought and variations available to produce make it a good investment.
  12. That was purely the sound version as he had tried to order extra but was told they are all allocated and there were only 150 made.
  13. Anyone wanting a ScotRail 158 with sound I would order ASAP my local shop has been informed there are only 150 being produced. I assume the other 2 158 models will be similar quantity
  14. Hornby only have a quality control team for steam related items, anything modern will do as it is.....
  15. I totally agree we need to support model shops I am lucky to have one in my home town. The trend is for more direct sales from many of the small/newer manufacturers have been offering lower priced models than the main stream and where they sell to shops margins are low thus making less profit. Hornby's decision looks to be based around this but received a mixed blessing response from my local shop as space for a whole new range would be difficult to find but direct sales only mean no chance to sell and promote the range. Heljan pulling out also had the effect of not being able to support with rolling stock even on a customer order basis so TT will not be a feature in near future.
  16. I think price has a lot to do with it, by selling direct Hornby can keep the price more competitive. Heljan don't sell a thing direct to the public so every model has a traditional retailer margin in the price to allow shops to make a living. These forum would be full of moaners asking why Hornby can sell a class 50 for £145 pounds and Heljan with recent price rise would be £50- 70 more for a similar diesel.
  17. Popped into Scoonie Hobbies and this arrived yesterday. Looks stunning and car head lamp looks good. Sound version in stock but still waiting on my analogue one arriving.
  18. Well I wouldn't mind the new A1 tooling in LNER green with corridor tender. It was my first Scotsman as a kid and would be nice to have it to modern spec. We might even get treated to some coaches a triple buffet set would be nice.
  19. These must be getting close I have just had an email asking for balance of payment.
  20. Mine came back with handrails fitted not sure if same body but not bothered I'm just happy it now corrected and matches the rest of my 68's
  21. In that case can you hurry up and build a model of the Caley 419 at Bo'ness thanks🤣
  22. Are we getting the preserved Caley coaches to go with it next?
  23. The odd thing about this is that the model is ltd edition of 500 according to Hornby. So either Hornby can't count to 500 when allocating these at time of announcement or if the factory have said they can't deliver the quantity then this will mean it's an even smaller ltd edition than Hornby claimed? Either way something very odd going on if a fixed number ltd edition is being cut 7 months after its announced.
  24. At the start of the year my retailer was allocated 3 full rakes of the coaches and 10 observation cars! I assume Hornby think there are lots of people planning to run very short trains🤣
