  1. The demise of decent rail dining is part of the dumbing down of society these days. Perhaps that should be numbing down as we cheerfully(?) accept the current situation already mentioned. We are content to have our plastic wrapped meal eaten with our hands in front of our fellow travellers and to watch them while their eating habits and their children, may not those of the rest of society. The dining cars of old are all but a pleasant memory as already described. How long will it be before some company follows the way of the airlines and crams us into smaller seats in ever decreasing space and have the nerve to nickel and dime us to death with add on costs. What price the shilling in the slot on the bathroom door? Brian.
  2. You don't get over 11000 posts on topic. This has to be one of the most popular group on the RM Web - I wonder why? Brian.
  3. Those candles have got to go, Cap'n Stubbs! Brian.
  4. Depends! I have a twenty year old Lincoln Mark 8 with about 75K on the clock. Here in the US we have to have a smog check only - no MOT, every two years which can cost a minimum of $15 or so. I have yet to have anything wrong found with the car so this means I have spent $150 for nothing except to pad the states treasury. In another five years the car will not require testing. Most owners of older cars have them as second drivers and which may have some special appeal to their owners who may keep them in tip top mechanical condition. Compared with all the rules and regulations back home, the US seems like a haven for motorists although not without its motoring problems. Brian.
  5. If that's the case and it looks like this all the way to South Wales, we should all be raising Great Crested Newts! Gone are the says when the railway was a part of the countryside. Brian.
  6. How about this Lionel 0 scale fencing? Brian
  7. After watching a few episodes of Poldark, it would seem a lot of standing water is required. Brian.
  8. First time I've seen the baulk road modelled. Brian.
  9. A relative had one and I was able to drive it; was definitely different to other contemporary cars of the time. Brian.
  10. Tell me that Ford roadster isn't cute, wire wheels and all! Brian
  11. Need help identifying and old car in the Australian TV show, Dr Blake mysteries, or something like that! Obviously thirties styling, something like an enlarge Standard Nine with a minimal boot. This one has whitewalls and supposedly belonged to the doctors father. Brian.
  12. I wonder how much longer the EWS brand will remain? Its been enough time to get more repainted by now. Brian
  13. We all seem to have a little piece of the county staked out. Mine was roughly a large arc from the Fowey river to the Helford river and all the railway in between. Stayed away from the north coast for some reason! Brian.
  14. Always look forward to more pictures. One of my favourite sites both model and reality.. Brian
  15. Agree with comments; it could have been Brunswick with lining. Needs GWR branding and get rid of the garish yellow panels; headlights are sufficient. This months RM discusses the possibility, hope it materialises. Brian.
  16. Interesting. When I lived back home, my Dad had the usual boiler in the airing cupboard which was in the upstairs landing which never provided enough hot water. Over here, the method is to have a 40 gall. hot water heater usually located in the garage which is usually adequate. When we had to replace it, we considered an electric instant hot water heater but from our point of view, the cost factor was too high so we installed a 50 gall. heater instead at half the price. The roof structure here is similar to those described but roofs are much lower at the peak so impractical for much use beneath. Brian.
