  1. KOMO news in Seattle, WA has posted an article on line that the engineer may have been distracted approaching the curve. http://komonews.com/news/local/official-amtrak-engineer-may-have-been-distracted-before-derailment
  2. I am sorry to say that the two passengers my friends knew were among the fatalities.
  3. NTSB has apparently already view the date recorder and it was going 50 mph over the limit. http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/amtrak-train-ntsb-update-1.4455726
  4. It was reported by several sources that the speed on that curve for Talgos was 30 mph yet they think the train was still doing 81 mph,
  5. The location you marked is correct. The one that google maps marked is on the old line.
  6. Interesting as the news feed I saw listed this info straight away. They played a recording between the head end crew and dispatch saying they were going around the curve and ended up on the ground with cars everywhere.
  7. They showed video of the front of the P42 with its red tail lights on.
  8. They flew a news chopper over the wreck on the live feed. Brand new Siemens Charger SC-44 on point, the Amtrak P42DC 181 pushing. They already released info that the train was doing 81.1 mph on that sharp curve...
  9. Several of my friends know someone on the train. There is currently no word on his condition. If anyone wants to see where this happened https://asm.transitdocs.com/ Its train 501.
  10. Had one of my cats die in my arms today. Not a fun time...

You were there for them when they needed reassurance the most. Take a small amount of comfort in that.

Sad to hear that, I have picked up two strays so thy have made my place there home, best pest control ever.

  11. Yea! Mine arrived today. Very nice model and after getting past the 'please stop' part gave it a quick one over to see that it survived the trip across the pond. 10 out of 10 Dave, I am very impressed and was well worth the wait. Makes up for the fact that I had to pay duty on it and that it snowed today
  12. Was hoping mine would be tested on the 3rd rail out of Southampton! Looking forward to receiving mine, although I will have to wait for it to cross the Atlantic and most of Canada! Glad I already paid for it as I recently lost my job, so sadly looks like I won't be getting a 74.
  13. The modelling gods are frowning on me. Finally got a small vice that I can use in my small apartments, goot all the tools I feel I need to go ahead with some of my projects. So what can go wrong now? How about suffering nerve damage in my left shoulder and needing a few weeks to recover...

I was looking forward to some modelling during the Christmas break until a knife slipped and severed a nerve in my finger. Now all I can do is sit around with a fat bandage on my hand!

  14. Sweet! I am part owner of a real Ol49, but sadly I can't run it on my layout. I am a big PKP enthusiast, currently working on a book on the subject. Anyway I hope it isn't the D600's, need a bit of time to ensure I have enough money for the one I ordered!
  15. As long as one of them is done as a PKP TKh1 then I would be ok with that!
  16. This is a fantastic looking model. I look forward to receiving it, even if my railway is currently put away.
  17. Oh it doesn't derail due to a fault. It derailed only once but is such a nice model I don't want to risk causing damage or loosing parts.
  18. Today I finally picked up an LRC. The engine, 6923, is certainly wonderful but after having my Rapido FPA9 derail I am afraid to take it out of the packaging incase it too derails, and scatters parts across the tracks!
  19. Well today is the first day of the Calgary Stampede. An annual event where people get drunk and rowdy, then ride the buses and show absolutely no respect for either the bus or their drivers. Actually now that I think about it its just the same as any other night on the buses in Calgary!

No different to any other major city then. Enjoy the Stampede. The best bits need seeking out and aren't on the grounds.

  20. Ok then, guess I need to fully wake up before going on the computer. I know it is posted on Wikipedia that class 75 was a projected super ED, but don't know how true that is. To be honest this is what I was thinking off when posting!
  21. Collecting model buses I have often wondered what it would take to make the blinds so that they could change. My son has a toy bus that you can change the route by using a dial and turning it with your thumb. While this wouldn't be practical on the 71 I am now intrigued as to how this would be possible? It would certainly be neat, even if I don't have DCC, and would make the model stand out.
  22. Interesting. Although I had heard of DHP1 I had never seen a photograph of it. Especially interesting to see it with a 17 in the same shot. Thanks for posting the photos!
  23. Ah, I looked through the other shots to see if I could find out what it was, but somehow missed that one! Thanks! I notice in the first shot that it has a blue TOPS panel. Were any withdrawn without receiving that?
