Interesting....
<Strokes chin and nods aprrovingly>
I always enjoy watching projects evolve, on the scenic side, the extensions are a great idea. The split levels will really add to the varied landscape of the layout.
Have you considered a larger fiddle yard? Turn the far right board into an 'L' shape and have a row of siding/traverser full of stock ready to go?
I say this from an operational point of view. With such a long single line branch, movement of stock will be at a premium, it would be quicker / safer / less work for the operator to have trains ready formed to bring back on scene. I realise this is easier said then done, but operating cassettes for any length of time usually drives me up the wall

Hey Julia,
Thank you, it's nice to be back again (for another week atleast). I'm looking forward to getting some scenics down soon, even ballasting seems an interesting job after 2 years of messing about!
But a big thank you must go out to ALL the other 2FS layout builders for the inspiration and kind words to carry on. No doubt it wouldn't of got this far otherwise.

I've never seen Bryn move as fast as when I told him the new 'Modern Locos Illustrated' magazine covered the Class 14/15/17s was out and that there were some on sale on the other side of the hall!
"The hall will be closing in 5 minutes"
I injured my ankle and almost flattened a few punters on my marathon sprint across the show. Worth every penny

I wasn't on form Saturday, I had just finished 2 months of night shifts and my head wasn't screwed on. Thanks have to go to Andy for sorting out my "shunting puzzles"
I was planning on popping in Sudnay to see you guys, but my body clock wasn't playing ball that morning.
I picked up some of those MIG weathering powders which everyone is raving about. I'm pretty pleased with the results, but I might of undone all my work with a dodgy coat of satin varnish
All in all, an enjoyable weekend

Fantastic shot!
Glad to hear you enjoyed yourself, it was quite a good show this year. I'll have to second your comments on Stephen's layout, a top all rounder in every sense.
Did you pick up any new projects/bits & bobs?
-
Looking good there Bryn, and it really shows the advantage of 2mmFS in appearance over N.
Thanks Rich, I'm happy with the results. Granted it does take much longer, but it's worth the effort in my opinion.
Looks like it's coming on well Bryn. Thanks Kris, I'm trying to make the most of my time off work. Expect another quite period soon
Good to see it back here Bryn...but, I won't be asking what height you set the track off the floor thoughShhhh... I saw Mike at Warley and he mentioned it again
Good to see you've got your mojo back....I've always liked the clean, elegant lines and simplicity of this layout - and then it's going really filthy... Keep up with the great work - with lots of pictures please
Nice to finally meet you on the weekend, thanks for the kind words!
Nice...Looking good mon B)
Aye, tis' getting there. Slowly.
so you cracked it well doneAlmost... I've not put power to it yet. I'm quietly confident, but we'll see soon enough.
Good to see this back Bryn.Once over the hurdle with that 3 way and I'm sure things will start to progress rather nicely
Thanks Trevor, the 3 way was the "make or break" part of the whole plan and I'm relieved it's finally nearing completion. I'm taking a little break and playing with some stock to get into it again, how's your 2mm modelling going these days?

Exciting stuff Pete, loving the close up views provided by your letter box slot. Plus the photo frame is a nice touch, a very adaptable piece of kit. Keep up the good work mate B)
-
Thank you for your kind words, they have inspired me to have a go at my MDO kit next. The kit shown is a Harris design, built to the instructions. What can I say? The man can make a damn good kit B)
-
Considering how narrow the baseboards are, the dries have an incredible sense of depth. Well done that man! The natural curve of the buildings really does draw the eye in, it just "feels" right
-
I wonder what you could move onto now?
I'm now moving onto a nice cup of tea. Well, until my parcel arrives tomorrow
Very nice - looking suitably used and abused, but not too unloved...Cheers Steve, I've tried to keep it to a minimum. I might do a few battered ones later on, but for now I'm quite pleased with the result.
-
Top soldering skills Tony, my hat is off to you, it really is coming along very well.
-
1002
Thanks for the words of encouragement guys, I hope to have it fitted by the middle of next week (work permitting).
-
I'm very impressed with the quality of that first picture. Any hints for shooting such close up images? It's something I always struggle with.
-
The Dyna-drive method. Spoken in hushed tones by men in long coats....
-
No rush, this kit is pretty low on the priority list currently. If you can find any new information, I'll send you a free kit as a trial build.
Thumb locks? You told me those were gear pullers....
-
Cheers Kemp!
Don't worry, I'm sure our paths will cross again mate. I'm still on the hunt for Herring information, so anything yo can get your hands on will be of great use.
Maybe you should just build one 2FS kit.... just one and then stop.... one more, last one I promise.... I can can stop when I want to, I just don't want to.
-
Sorry Phil, I've not used that chassis yet. But I would recommend the Stephen Harris kit if you have time to build it.

Welcome Tony, always nice to see new blogs popping up. This one's going straight on my favourites list!
-
Top effort Pete! Well worth the effort and hopefully the rest of the rake will soon follow. Keep up the good work mate.
-
Ideal, just the sort of information I was after.
Thank you Andy.

Hello Andy!
Could you explain how you glued down your Templot plan and then shellacked it? I tried to use PVA spread out thinly and it failed miserably. Any tips?
-
Andy,
Thank you for taking the time to write this up. As someone who grew up in the shadow of Criggion quarry, this layout is of great interest to me. I hope it will progress in the near future and look forward to following your thread.
-
Thank you all for the replies. The 3 way is progressing well and the time for fitting the switch rails draws nearer....
-
Hey Richard,
I have to say I was mightily impressed with this and spent some time taking in the details such as point operation and your clever baseboard design. I sadly missed you on both days, but hope to catch up next time.
Keep up the top work!

Designer Vs. Engineer
I can fully grasp where you're coming from Pete, it would be a shame to lose the overall visual aspect of the layout. How about "Board 6" and reuse your original cassette yard? This will also allow the use of the digital photo frame as previously implemented.
I have to say, the fiddle yard under the hillside concept is playing havoc with my neck hairs. Trying to re-rail a tiny train in a restricted, dark area? Stephen Harris originally used that idea on Yn..... Yny.....Yum... Yin..... "That Layout"...... and had terrible problems with access issues.
