  1. Rick I wonder if this may be the coach you've seen, the early Blue/Grey version of the 101 with White Stags on the front and sides ? It only ran like this during 1987 prior to being re-painted Hebridean Green/Cream. https://www.flickr.com/photos/blue-diesels/5732873995/in/photolist-9JAtH6-9JAtMn-9JAtCi https://www.flickr.com/photos/blue-diesels/5732874243/in/photolist-9JAtH6-9JAtMn-9JAtCi Superb phots courtsey John Turner (53A Models) HTH Ken
  2. Triple headed ? - was the third loco invisible on this occasion ;-)) Seriously though. I recall being on the platform at Milliken Park one day and almost getting blown off, when one of these triple headed Ore services blasted through ! Magic
  3. Al Yes I think it was 152 & 251 that got spruced up and had white or was it silver roofs added for a (Prince Charles) Royal Special ? Your post has loads of useful info on the Swallow 37's, thanks for sharing. A bit OT, but some time back, there were whispers that Rail Exclusive were planning a pair of Bachmann IC Swallow 37's as a L/E ! Regards Ken
  4. Andy Phew ! I have to admire your dedicated approach especially with these new Mk2E's - but your previous efforts show the end results are well worthwhile ! A man on his own mission regardless - go for it mate ! Cheers Ken
  5. How did you remove the roof please? (I'm assuming your description above about removing the roof relates to the Lima Mk3). The original Lima MK3 rooves were held/locked in place via the drop lights and the main windows - both being part of the roof moulding. Removal without damage can be achieved by pushing a thin piece of plasticard or flattened end tooth pick down each corner drop light bottom edge to ease them away from the bodyshell. A small gap should then appear between the roof and bodyside above each end door. Using your thumb nail, ease it into the gap and then run it along the roof/bodyside join, on each side, this will release the main windows and allow the roof to be removed. On the latest Hornby version, as the drop lights appear to be separate from the roof moulding, that step can be missed. A well manicured and non too short thumb-nail is an invaluable modelling tool - and it comes free also !
  6. Thanks for taking the time to post the info on the 2x37 +GV sleeper workings, made for interesting reading. As for my comments on 37 152 - it was the missing INTERCITY brandings I was referring to - but now we know why ! There were only three Class 37/0 and three Class 37/5 in INTERCITY livery, used by InterCity : 37152 37221 37251 37505 37510 37685 Others were painted, but that was long after their use on the sleepers had ended (preservation) >> 37 683 in INTERCITY livery was also used on the sleeper services - making 7 in total https://www.flickr.com/photos/httpwwwpeakdaleworkscom/8150462006/in/photolist-dqefp1-bzSapJ-bS1T4g-9pN5t6-bnyuXj-dULc5f-bnZtGx-a6mxqi-5ioiFP-5isyLb-5it3vs-5isycd-5isB3W-5it2Zo-5ioLWK-5isAtq-qmzawn-cvWPb5-dv8rBy-dPXc4V-bEfWQ1-qm3Zox-5imVDa-5imW6D-fp9H15-egxtbE-dVvMSR-dULc7Q-89cM1z-7DAC9s-bhXSyP-89cLWB-9Gd9Yp-c4RTKj-8jizRr-ep4hGQ-dv2vgZ-9qpetP-cvWPff-89g2KE-ddPrKT-cvWPjs-eVszKS-dULc73-bnVLs8-dUEB9D-dWpbQH-nMaJ6L-5mPfFm-85KLku https://www.flickr.com/photos/killie65/4363606362/in/photolist-7DAC9s-bhXSyP-89cLWB-9Gd9Yp-c4RTKj-8jizRr-ep4hGQ-dv2vgZ-9qpetP-cvWPff-89g2KE-ddPrKT-cvWPjs-eVszKS-dULc73-bnVLs8-dUEB9D-dWpbQH-nMaJ6L-5mPfFm-85KLku-7GqNyZ-dJTbCJ-dFFV4U-5iokkp-5ioi8T-6eQrKN-dUEB66-9ZbPE2-5L33bs-dH69Dv-dULc8N-dUEB4c-8EebXT-c8U2zY-9xbu9G-89g2FL-89g2Ho-85FUAz-ddZXPJ-8WLGrM-dQgJhn-9D1GCj-dRVhdQ-9q6k1C-89g2yo-dvJKD8-9y9H2N-89cLYt-dVSMyz
  7. Initially there were two Class 37/0 (although the other two were nearing completion) in INTERCITY livery : 37221 and 37251 >> I can recall 37 152 being in "partial" INTERCITY livery, but what was the fourth 37/0 ? Initially there were two Class 37/5 in INTERCITY livery : 37505 and 37510 Due to these being the only two Class 37/5, a third had to be repainted (to prevent snatching) : 37685 >> 37 683 also carried INTERCITY livery, possibly the last repainted ?
  8. Generator Van 6311 at IS TMD as used on the sleeper trains.
  9. Good to hear you finally got a result your happy with - but for an even bigger improvement, consider getting the standard Bachmann sound reblown with Biff's latest WH 37 files - far superior in all respects.
  10. Hi Derek A few ex BG's were converted to generator vans to provide ETH. These usually ran with a pair of 37's on the sleeper, but not always 37/5's, some 37/0's were also used/painted in IC Swallow livery - 37 251 "The Northern Lights" / 37 221 and possibly one or two others. HTH Ken
  11. Oustanding service once again from Digitrains - ordered by phone yesterday pm, arrived today at noon ! can't better that - Highly recommended 5*
  12. Have to agree about expensive (hi-fi) speakers pointing at the floor ;-)) , but 2 x 4ohms in parallel would give a 2ohm load - don't think a Lok 4 would survive long ! they would have to be wired in series to give an 8 ohm load. 4 to 16ohms loads are permitted on the Lok 4
  13. Bachmann enclosed the earlier V3.5 instructions with some of the first Lok 4 fitted models - hence the miss-match and confusion ! etc. A Bass reflex could be fitted in the tanks, provided a Lok 4 is indeed fitted, then an ABC 8ohm large Bass reflex would give good results - but it needs some work to get it to fit properly. On it's own this will give a big increase in volume and better quality and growl !. A second 8ohm speaker could be used with it, wired in parallel if felt necessary, but NOT the original one, you could just replace the original with an 8 ohm version OR fit an 8ohm Bass Enhanced in the chassis recess once the wiring and the chassis has been slightly altered to get it to fit, the roof fan and speaker mounting assy would also have to be removed, to allow the body to fit back on. 2 X 23mm Loksound round speakers (well sealed) in the tanks also work well - volume wise - but they don't "growl" as well as a large Bass Reflex ;-) http://www.digitrains.co.uk/ecommerce/speakers/dss229-hi-bass-speaker-enclosed--wire-leads--rectangular--8ohm--1w--58x15x23mm.aspx http://www.dccsupplies.com/item-p-100790/bass-enhanced-8-ohm-speaker-20mm-x-40mm
  14. "Can I confirm the blu tack goes onto the back of the speaker housing or onto the chassis? Thanks" Your photo shows one of the later Bach 37's with a V4 Loksound ? the speaker being mounted on the roof. Earlier 37's with (V3.5's) had the speaker(poorly) mounted on the chassis, on these versions a small improvement could be made to the sound quality/volume by removing the Bach speaker mounting back plate and then using a ring of Black/Blue Tak etc fitted on the chassis recess with the wires moved to suit, and then pushing the speaker frame into it to form an air tight seal. As an alternative, you could try remove the speaker/fan fitting on the bodyshell roof, as well as any mounting spigots, and then sealing the front edges of the speaker to the body roof, using black/blue tack.
  15. And this shows you how to go about it - a really good guide http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/34482-bass-reflex-speakers-now-updated/
  16. A generic nose circuit board may be used ? , but the smd LED's will be fitted in different places to suit the nose marker light positions, as per Bachmann 37's. HTH Ken
  17. Biff's latest 37's are really impressive, to get the very best from them fit a large 8ohm ABC Bass Reflex in the tanks, requires a strip down of the chassis, and some mods to the speaker casing, but the end results are well worth the effort. http://www.dckits-devideos.co.uk/shop/dcc_digital_loco_sounds/high_quality_minature_speakers_housings_specialised_enclosures_wiring_plugs_sockets_etc_/prs229_bass_reflex_58x23x15mm_depth_8_ohms_1w.php
  18. My copy arrived in the post yesterday - pre ordered from (Classis Mags) only flicked through it so far, but looks like a good read when time permits !

  21. Indeed, adding new/extra pick-ups makes a big difference to the running quality of all the latest 40's, it's well worth doing.

No sun up 'ere - cold/cloudy and windy - first snow of the winter fell on the Cairngorms yesterday !! I'll leave the forthcoming "frost" to deal with any of my surviving weeds etc ! Cheers Ken
