  2. Morning folks. More like November than August here today but nevertheless, Abi and I are about to step out and brave the elements down the park. No work today so I think I'll spend some time at the bench, knocking my near-Caley 300 class a bit more into some form approximating to reality! :-). Blatantly ignoring the state of the house in favour of indulgent hobbying. State of my stiff neck and shoulders strongly suggests I need a new mattress mind! A good day to all! Dave.
  3. Is mother proud of Little Boy today..?

  5. Jock.Feeling absolutely fine. Op was 10 weeks ago now. Still get occasional nerve twinges where internal 'repairs' continue in a low key way. Most of it is just regaining dormant fitness, but clearly those repairs are still taking up a small percentage of the overall 'energy budget'. All good though! :-) Dave.
  6. The end of my first week back on the job post op. Frankly I'm quite chinstrapped! On Monday I hit the sack at 10:30 though I woke up at 5.00 and dozed on an off until 6 when I got up. Ididn't waste those early hours though as I had breakfast and spent an hour working on some weathered wagons for a friend before taking Abi out. This pretty much set the pattern for the week and I seem to have settled into 'early bird' mode now. That hour or so at the bench in the morning is certainly a more productive use of time than the equivalent spent idly grazing the internet in the evenings to midnight as was the case prior to this week. If I'm to make any kind of second profession of finishing models for others I suspect this needs to be incorporated into a permanent routine now. Good to see you're enjoying the new career, Dom! Dave.

Jumping in and out of the van with stuff at frequent intervals too. Surprising how the activity stacks up!

  8. I think it was technically still ScR when the box was built though. The major boundary change wasn't effected in the area until 1958; that being the date that Kingmoor and Canal entered the LM region and the administrative boundary moved from Etterby Junction to Gretna Junction (I think the latter happened at the same time).
  9. Creating a Pickersgill 300 from relatively unpromising material, but it's immensely satisfying! ??

Not worried per se, Stewart. Just curious; while it's not directly relevant to my core modelling, it's one of the nicer Eastern group 4-4-0s and consequently of interest. It comes when it comes but I was just interested to see if any update on its progress was forthcoming.

Is there any reason that this model has dropped so completely off the radar at the moment or has there been a re-jigging of production slots?
  15. Just thinking, Richard; perhaps the 700 would lend itself to becoming a Barney? The tender design is close to what Pickersgill used on the 300s but those would require a new cab too!
  16. Let's be honest, it's hardly the first time in history a misaligned knob has caused trouble. The world has survived this far...

  18. Good to see you're getting on with the 26, Eddie. Life doesn't always allow modelling projects to take precedence. Convalescing from an operation has given me plenty of modelling time of late. Take a look at these beasties, if you're so inclined. :-) http://albaweathering.com/2015/06/15/alb-00910-the-workhorse-and-the-sodjer/

Fascinating - but scary - thanks for sharing that one.

Somehow, I can't see many kids being allowed to see it.

  19. Dear HMRC. You want me to phone up to sort out my tax code. Not on an 0300 number I won't. I think I'll just wait until it sorts itself out and enjoy the rebate next year!
