  1. Great day at the Borders and NE Finescale Group yesterday. Thanks guys!

  2. I loved the loco in this get-up. Even more enjoyable was the reaction from the enthusiast community who are largely so bloody crushingly conservative. It was a real 'Mona Lisa with a Mohican' moment, sticking two fingers up at the dogmatists! :-)
  3. If you're healthy with food in your belly and a roof over your head and nobody/nothing trying to kill you, does any of the other crap matter..?

  8. Nice image of New Galloway box. http://www.railbrit.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete.php?id=20275
  9. I don't remember seeing this area covered previously but here's a timely heads-up about a new book title, expected next February; 'The Port Road - Dumfries to stranraer, Portpatrick, Kirkcudbright and Whithorn' by Andrew Swan and published jointly by the CRA and G&SWRA. Having seen an 'early prototype' of the book I can vouch that it's going to be something pretty special and a dedicated, high quality publication of this sort is long overdue for this corner of Scotland. Dumfries and Galloway is a bit of a 'forgotten corner' of Scotland in many ways but this appears to be changing on the ground and it's to be hoped that interest in the area's railways may also follow suit; there aren't many places you can model a three coach train with a Jubilee or a Clan pacific up front; Caley 'Parleys' notwithstanding. Anyway, I intend this thread as a gathering point for any related matters of interest, so feel free to chuck what you've got into the pot!

10 should be better and apparently a free upgrade will be in place for users of legit copies of 7, 8 and 8.1. (I hate it too!).

If windows 8 had been a stand alone product and not a pre-install it would never have sold. Simply dreadful.

Ivan - you don't need something super duper to run 7 on.

  12. Well, if I'm Generation Y I'm likely the prototype, being as Generation X was well under way as I rolled out of works a. Day ahead of D6936 in - 1964. Like me, she's still about and lives just across the road under the assumed name of 37 682. :-)
  13. The trick in life is to find something you're good at, enjoy it and then do it as much as you can, hopefully developing and improving on the way. Does it matter if it's an 'earner'? :-) D.
  14. That truly is wonderful.I have a 52F kit in 4mm for one of these. I'm very tempted now to do it as an NB loco as there are precious few photos of the class round Glasgow in BR days. Praise indeed from a Caley man! ;-)

If it wasn't for Tubular Bells there probobably wouldn't be any Virgin Voyagers. Mike Oldfield has a lot to answer for.

Ooft! Never thought of it from that angle, but faced with a Voyager... I'd rather be on horseback... ;-)

  16. "By the Drummond... QUICK MARCH..!" ;-)
  17. I've not even met the good lady and I like her with a militant streak like that! :-)
  18. For a fleeting moment when I saw the size of that filter; the thought crossed my mi d that you'd been hoodwinked into buying a bloody de-salination plant or something! ;-) Friday the 13th appears to have passed here in a fairly benign manner. Completed my deliveries across the Solway Plain by 2PM today. Wigton was very lively as Gold Cup Friday appears to be a massive thing locally, but here I am with my rock n roll Friday night; a bath, bottle of wine, a bit of Mod-jazz and funk on the stereo and my once-a-week treat newspaper. Living the dream! :-)
  19. Caley, Sou'West, Heilan? All fine by me boys. Good to see you injecting some real class to proceedings, Jim. With strong support of course from Ian and my second favourite company! :-)
  20. Excellent work, Kelly. I do SW myself and I'm getting close to my 2st award after starting at New Year. It certainly helps having given up shifts and having a better work/life balance the last six months. Shame to hear about Terry Pratchett. I still haven't read any of his work but I'm well aware of him through others and the immense following he had. Was meant to be off work today but I got called in to help out on a local run at short notice. I had planned to work on a model for somebody today. Although I gained a useful 6 hours' from the job, the model would still bring me in more for the same amount of time! Never mind. I was also going to give the van a wash but the constant heavy rain tonight looks to be doing the job for me!

  22. Fair enough, Dave. With proper photos now available I can see your assessment is justified. That said, unless I can 3D print my own Geoff Kent it's unlikely my requirements are likely to be fulfilled by scratchbuilding!

Never been that impressed with factory weathering. At best it's a starting point, at worst, well, it's bad...
  24. You're going to make that judgement based on a grainy and technically underwhelming photograph on a website? Seriously?
