  1. Good evening, David. That’s a great selection of photo’s of Switzerland at Menziken, in August, 1988. C10060, of De4/4, 1663, on a Beinwil am See to Beromünster service, on the 3rd August, 1988, is a superb three quarter shot of the locomotive and train. The photo’s from Cumbria, at Dalston, Sellafield and Troutbeck, are fascinating. J6605, at Sellafield, with a Class 40, on a down freight train, in August, 1979, is a most atmospheric photo’ by your Dad. With warmest regards, Rob.
  2. Good evening, everyone. Firstly, thank you, Mick, for the signalling diagram of Keyingham, and the fascinating photo’ of the flooding at Willerby, H&BRly, c1910. Now, we are having four photo’s this evening, courtesy of John Law, on Flickr. The first one is a view of 777, Sir Lamiel, at Beverley station in c1982, on a special train to Scarborough. Note the trackwork in the foreground. Next we have a photo’ of Botanic Gardens station, Hull, from prior to the Great War. I am sure Mick will be able to give more information about the photo’. The third photo’ shows class 37, 6782, in green, next to Scarborough station signalbox, in c1971. No information about the working of the train is given. Finally, here’s a photo’ of Seamer, in c1972, with an unidentified class 47, running light engine, up, to possibly York. Best regards, Rob.
  3. Good evening, David. That’s a great selection of photo’s of Hillmorton. The first photo’ of Class 85, E3095, on the 10.15 Euston to Birmingham and Manchester, in March, 1967, is a superbly composed shot which captures the locomotive still in electric blue, with a fairly typical formation of carriages. That’s a fascinating mixed bag of photo’s. The last one at Southam Road and Harbury GWR, with a Class 25, on an up freight train, in April, 1971, is an excellent photo’, and just look at the state of the yellow cab end. It will make an most interesting weathering project on a model. With warmest regards, Rob.
  4. Good evening, everyone. This evening we have three photo’s by John Turner, on Flickr, of Keyingham, in August, 1964, on the Withernsea line, and one by Andy Hughes, also on Flickr, of Crabley Creek. So, the first one is a view of a Craven's 2-car (later Class 105) DMU, as it approaches Keyingham with a Withernsea to Hull local service. The next photo’ is a shot of the signal box and Station Road level crossing at the western end of Keyingham station. The third photo’ shows a general view of Keyingham station, looking east. Finally, we have a photo’ of 20305, passing Crabley Creek at the head of train 3S14, the 11:40 Sheffield to Hull, RHTT, on the 13th November, 2018. Best regards, Rob.
  5. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s from East Yorkshire, and West Stockwith on the River Trent between Gainsborough and Keadby. The last photo’ at West Stockwith MSLR, of the Stockwith basin, in January, 1963, is a truly superb photo’ and shows the basin frozen, with snow and ice, in the freezing winter of 1963. The photo’s of the railway beyond the High Dyke branch from the short stretch of BR track on the line fromn Saxby Junction to Bourne, are a superb selection. J3165, at Buckminster sidings, with Bass Carrington No5 and Peckett, 1158, on an empty ballast train from Market Overton to Stainby, in April, 1973, is a splendid photo’ by your Dad. With warmest regards, Rob.
  6. Good evening, everyone. Firstly, thank you, Mick, for that superb photo’ of H&BRly Class A, No120, at North Cave, in c1910. What a view, and both the engine and railway are long gone. This evening we have four more photo’s courtesy of John Turner, 54A Photography, and Simon Beeston, all on Flickr. The first photo’ shows Gresley LNER A3 4-6-2 60085 "Manna". It was withdrawn from Gateshead (52A) depot on 12th October, 1964. It awaits the cutter's torch at Draper's scrapyard at Sculcoates, Hull, in c1964. The second one is a view of Robinson Class B7 4-6-0, 5458, as it is turned at Scarborough Shed on the 28th June, 1939. The third photo’ is of 37330 and 37218, at Hull Paragon station, in the snow, on the 29th December, 1995. Finally, we have a photo’ of Beverley, on the 28th December, 2002, with Deltic,D9009, in green, on special train, 1Z51, the 1151 York to Scarborough via Hull. Best regards, Rob.
  7. Good evening, David. That’s a great selection of photo’s from between Darlington and Eastgate. That’s a superb photo’ of Stanhope, with the Class 101 unit, on the North Briton railtour, on the 23rd May, 1987, in C8505. You have composed the photo’ perfectly with the footbridge framing the train excellently. The preservation miscellany with photo’s from Carnforth, Hereford and Parkend, are truly remarkable. C2757, at Carnforth, with 6990, Raveningham Hall, on the 5th June, 1976, being a delightful photo’ of the engine as it is being worked on. With warmest regards, Rob.
  8. Good evening, everyone. Firstly, thank you, Mick, for the signalling diagram of Cottingham Junction. It is most informative. Now, this evening we have four more photo’s courtesy of Andy Hughes, Simon Beeston, knoxrj, and John Turner, all on Flickr. The first one is a photo’ of WD "Austerity" 2-8-0, 90450, as it waits for the road whilst departing Salt End/King George Dock with its train of Shell/Bp tank wagons, whilst classmate, 90009, heads in the opposite direction with a load of BR 16T mineral wagons, in c1967. Next here’s a photo’ of class C12, 4517, on a Brough local at Hessle, in probably the late 1930’s. The third photo’ is of Broomfleet, on the 15th February, 2019, with track machine DR77801, on working 6J34, the 12.15 from Holbeck Loco Sidings to Hull Station Sidings. Finally, we have a photo’ of the only time a class 33 has worked into Hull. It sees 33103, SWORDFISH, approach Southcoates Lane with train, 2Z01, from Hull Hedon Road Sidings to Immingham, on the 13th October, 2006. Best regards, Rob.
  9. Good evening, David. That’s a great but sad selection of photo’s of the remains and remnants of closed railways. J1613, at Clarborough, of the GCR bridge over A620, in April, 1969, is a well composed shot of the low bridge. The photo’s of Clapham (Yorks), and the rest on the S&C, are an excellent set. J541, at Aisgill summit, with LMS Class 5 4-6-0, 44912, on an up goods train, in July, 1966, is a superb photo’, not only for the plate wagon, but you can see just how hard the engine was working. With warmest regards, Rob.
  10. Good evening, everyone. This evening we have four more photo’s and they are courtesy of knoxrj, John Turner and Simon Beeston, all on Flickr. The first photo’ is of class E5, 1468, with a suffix, which I have forgotten what it was for ex-NER locomotives. The location is Scarborough, and the year is given as 1925. The second photo’ shows another view of WD "Austerity" 2-8-0, 90450, as it departs Salt End/King George Dock with a train of Shell/BP tank wagons, in c1967. The third photo’ is a shot of Brough, on the 18th October, 2014, with class 20’s, 20304 & 20305, on train, 307L, the 1215, York Thrall Europa to York Yard Nth R.S. I think the headcode should actually be 3L07, with the one in the caption wrongly typed out. Finally, we have a photo’ of 37402 - which I have the Accurascale model of - on the 12.22 Scarborough to Derby R.T.C, on the 14th September, 2013. Best regards, Rob.
  11. Good evening, David. that’s a great selection of photo’s of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway at Goathland and south of Grosmont in 1973 and 1975. C1252, at Goathland, with the preserved J27, 2392, running light engine, in May, 1973, is an excellent photo’ of the engine from the rear. The photo’s of the Cambrian Coast line in North Wales are a superb set. The last photo’ at Criccieth, with Class 24, 5145, on a down goods train, in July, 1972, is a beautifully composed photo’ by your Dad. With warmest regards, Rob.
  12. Good evening, everyone. This evening we have four photo’s courtesy of Simon Beeston and John Turner, both on Flickr. The first one is a view of WD "Austerity" 2-8-0, 90450, as it departs Salt End/King George Dock, with a train of Shell/BP tank wagons, in c1967. The second photo’ shows BRCW 4-car DMU, class 104, (DMCL E50589 nearest camera) thought to be at Hedon Road Sidings, Hull, pictured during the RCTS (West Riding branch) 1Z02 "Hull Docks Rail Tour", on the 10th October, 1964. Next we have a photo’ of 57315, on train 5Z26, the 11.22 Hull to Carnforth Steamtown, on the 16th March, 2014. Finally it is time for a photo’ of EWS 56091, "Stanton", as it approaches Ferriby station with Acetic Acid tanks for BP Saltend, along with some MBA open wagons, on the 21st February, 2001. Best regards, Rob.
  13. Good evening, David. That’s a great selection of photo’s of York. The first photo’ of Class 47, D1573, on a Newcastle to Kings Cross service, in October, 1966, is an excellently composed photo’ by your Dad. It can be seen that there are at least two Thompson’s in the formation, a BSK and an SK. The black and white photo’s of the Midland at Trowell Junction around 1952, are a superb and historical set. The first photo’ of 4F, 44030, on a down goods train, in May, 1952, is an excellent shot and it’s hard to comprehend that it was once an everyday sight. With warmest regards, Rob.
  14. Good evening, everyone. This evening we have four photo’s courtesy of John Turner, and knoxrj, on Flickr. The first photo’ is a view of Dairycoates (50B) allocated WD "Austerity" 2-8-0, 90450, as it departs Salt End with a train of Shell/BP tank wagons, in c1967. Next is a photo’ of Dairycoates (50B) allocated English-Electric Type 3, D6789, as it basks in the early morning sunshine at King George Dock, and is about to back onto a rake of oil tank wagons and presumably form train, 9T16, in c1969. Now the third photo’ is a shot of class B16/1, 1371, at Cottingham South Junction, is what must be the later 1930’s. Finally, here’s another photo’ of a class B16/1, 61474, this time at an unidentified location near Hull, but likely to be the mainline from Selby, in c1956. The first two carriages are an ex-NER non corridor 49 foot eight compartment all third, and then a Gresley teak bodied composite lavatory. Best regards, Rob.
  15. Good evening, David. That’s a great set of photo’s of the Great Eastern. C4634, at Shenfield, with 312785, on a passenger train from Colchester to Liverpool St. in July, 1979, is an excellent and well composed photo’ of the electric unit. The photo’s of the GNR Grantham to Nottingham line are a fascinating selection. J1429, at Aslockton, with Class 37, D6830, on a westbound coal train, in September, 1968, is a superb and powerful looking shot of the 37 that Triang Hornby modelled for many years. With warmest regards, Rob.
  16. Good evening, everyone. Firstly, thank you, Mick, for posting that superb photo’ of ex-H&BRly Class L No161, now J28, 2542. This evening we have four photo’s to enjoy. They are courtesy of John Turner, Charlie Verrall, and ricsrailpics, all on Flickr. The first one is an interesting photo’, which although no location is given, from the look of the scenery I think it is Weaponess, near to Scarborough. It shows D17/2, 1923, in probably that year or not long after. The second photo’ shows a view from the train as it runs past Scarborough (Londesborough Road) excursion platforms. 3442 & 62005 are in charge, on the 6th March, 1965. The train is, of course, The Whitby Moors Railway to acknowledge the closure of the Scarborough to Whitby and Grosmont to Pickering lines from the following Monday. Thirdly, we have a photo’ showing Eastfield (ED) allocated, 47659, as it passes Hull Inward Yard with what is thought to be the short-lived Hull to Cardiff service, although another suggestion is the afternoon service to King's Cross which was sometimes hauled by a long range Class 47, on the 12th August, 1987. Finally, we have a photo’ of 31206 & 31293 in charge of the Rylstone to Hull "Tilcon" stone train at Dairycoates, on the 9th September, 1986. Best regards, Rob.
  17. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of Beamish Museum's pit village on the 2nd September, 2011. DSC_5256, of Peckett and Hudswell Clarke, 67, ex-Manchester Ship Canal, is an excellent portrait shot of the locomotive. The photo’s of the Southern are an excellent selection from the odds and ends you have left from May, 2016 to May, 2017. C4618, at Appledore, of Class 205, 1117, in July, 1979, is a well composed photo’ of the unit. With warmest regards, Rob.
  18. Good evening, everyone. This evening, with thanks to Philip Wheldale, John Turner, The KDH archive, and knoxrj, all on Flickr, we have four more photo’s to enjoy. The first one is a view of WD "Austerity" 2-8-0, 90450, as it heads towards Salt End with a train of Esso tank wagons, in c1967. Secondly, we have a photo’ at Hull Paragon station, of class J21, 1513, sometime in the 1930’s, on what I think may be secondary passenger train, after the headlamp is suitably changed. The third photo’ is a shot, on the 20th March, 2015, of 47847, at Gilberdyke, on train 4D94, the 10:30 Doncaster Down Decoy to Hull CT. Finally, here’s a photo’ of 47520, which is seen leaving for Kings Cross on the 1D24 Hull portion of the 13.16 service seen on 30th November 1974. The class 03 station pilot is to be seen to on the right. Best regards, Rob.
  19. Good evening, David. That’s a great selection of photo’s of Switzerland on the 12th and 13th August, 1988, at Interlaken Ost and West at the time of the BLS 75th anniversary celebrations. C10983, at Interlaken West, of Ae3/6i, 10439, on the 13th August, 1988, is excellent, and a well composed shot of the locomotive. The photo’s of the High Dyke branch and Colsterworth Iron Ore Quarry, are a superb set. J3139, at Colsterworth No 2 quarry, looking towards Woolsthorpe and lorry road to Woolsthorpe No3, and hut for tipping dock, in February, 1973, is a fascinating view, with the crane filling up the end wagon. With warmest regards, Rob.
  20. Good evening, everyone. This evening we have another four photo’s to enjoy, and they are courtesy of Richard Stewart, SNAPPER60809, and knoxrj, all on Flickr. The first photo’ shows class K3, 61957, at Hull Botanic Gardens level crossing, Hull, on the 8th August, 1962. The policeman will be noted. The second one is a shot of class D49/2, 62745, The Hurworth, about to depart, on a train, at Bridlington, on the 25th August, 1956. It is a busy scene, which will never be like that again. Thirdly, we have a photo’ of 47712 "Lady Diana Spencer" as it passes Lowfield Lane on train, 5Z47, from Crewe to Hull, the Statesman ECS, with 47805 on the rear, on the 28th November, 2023. Finally, here’s a photo’, from the 14th April, 2013, and working wrong line, and "clagging" nicely, towards Paragon station as they pass Hymers College is 20301 & 20303 with a train of new sleepers and ballast for use at the site of the track renewals in the vicinity of Argyll Street in Hull. Best regards, Rob.
  21. Good evening, David. That’s a great assortment of photo’s. J1698, at Castle Donnington, with Class 20, D8111, leading, and another one, on a down freight, in May, 1969, being a beautiful composition by your Dad. The batch of extra photo’s is superb, and the first one is an excellent shot at Trent, with 2P, 40332, piloting a Jubilee, on a down express passenger train, in c1954. The zoom has beautifully exaggerated the curve in the track, to the left of the Jubilee, after the single slip. The photo’s of Swayfield, on the ECML, are a perfect set. C1614, of a Class 47, on an up empty cement train, in May, 1974, being a splendid shot of a ‘train in the landscape’. With warmest regards, Rob.
  22. Good evening, and Happy New Year, everyone. On this first day of the new year, we can enjoy a new batch of four photo’s. They are courtesy of knoxrj, ricsrailpics, John Law, and John Turner, all on Flickr. The first one is a view of class B1, 61306, now preserved, at Hull Paragon, on the 30th January, 1966. Next we have a photo’ of class B1, 61131, on Bridlington shed, on the 18th May, 1952. The third photo’ is a shot of 0-6-0, 2477, on Springhead shed, Hull, sometime in the early 1930’s. Finally, here’s a photo’ of WD "Austerity" 2-8-0, 90009, as it shunts sidings in the King George Dock estate located opposite the factory of the Marfleet Refining Company on Hedon Road, Hull, in about 1967. Best regards, Rob.
  23. Good evening, and Happy New Year, David. That’s a superb set of photo’s of the trams at Crich. J1446, of EE Franklin and John Bull, in September, 1968, is an excellent photo’ of a steam tram engine (of The New South Wales Government, number 47). The mixed bag of photo’s are a delightful selection. The first photo’ at Denton Gunby, with an enthusiasts special, heading towards the exchange sidings, in September, 1970, is superb, and is of something which would not be allowed today - all those passengers in open wagons. The photo’s of AC electrics around Hillmorton are a fantastic set. The third photo’ of a Class 86, on an up express, in June, 1975, is superb, and it can be seen that first class has a Mkl, a Mkll, non air con, and a Mkll air con. It shows that there could be variations in the formations even in the mid Seventies. With warmest regards, Rob.
  24. Good evening, everyone. This last evening of 2023 we have a further four photo’s to enjoy. They are courtesy of Neville Wellings, John Law, John Turner and Richard Stewart, all on Flickr. The first photo’ is on the 29th December, 1982, with, Black 5, 5305, passing Driffield. It is on a 'Santa Special' which had Sir Lamiel from York to Hull with 777 recorded at 84mph in a published log. 5305 took over for the run to Scarborough and York. I recall that record breaking run, and it was most thrilling! Everyone was saying that a speed over over 80 mph had been attained. The second photo’ is of ex- H&BRlwy, 3060, at Springhead, Hull, in c1923. Thirdly, we have the long since closed Scarborough Signal Box, with 40001 in the right background, on the 15th June, 1984. Finally, here’s a photo’ of 37425 "Sir Robert McAlpine/Concrete Bob" passing Driffield on train, 3J51, the York Thrall to York Thrall via East Yorkshire RHTT, with 37419 on the rear. It is dated as the 22nd November, 2023. Best regards, Rob.
  25. Good evening, David. That’s a great set of photo’s of the ECML at Stannington and Ulgham Grange level crossings. C5118, at Ulgham Grange crossing, with a Class 37 on a down ballast train, in August, 1980, is an excellent and well composed shot of the 37 and train. The mixed bag of photo’s is a superb selection. It’s a great shame about the forum software causing you to have such problems. I noticed something strange yesterday. Well, JBW4K5, at Torside, with an EM2 bound for Manchester, in 1960, is a particularly excellent photo’ of a locomotive and line now all long gone. Thank you for trying to post the next photo’ of Edmondthorpe and Wymondham, with the view west, in July, 1974. A superb photo’. The Pilmoor photo’s are a splendid set. C5971, of Class 37, 37014, on a down train of oil tanks, in February, 1983, is a well composed shot of a once common sight. Thank you for succeeding and posting the final two of the extra photo’s. At Carlisle, with 156455, on a Leeds to Carlisle service , on the 24th October, 1990, in C15433, is a reminder of the 156 three car hybrids. With warmest regards, Rob.
