  1. Good evening, everyone. We have four more photo’s to enjoy this evening courtesy of John Turner, Andy Mason, and Paul Kearley, all on Flickr. The first one shows 47500, Great Western, at Scarborough, platform 1. No date is given, or any other information. Next is a photo’ of Shirebrook (Eastern Region) Cowans Sheldon & Co Ltd 30T Steam Breakdown Crane DE331160 with matchtruck DM770006 are watched over by English-Electric "Type 3" (TOPS Class 37) D6783 at Dairycoates (50B) MPD, Hull - c.1969. The third photo’ is a view of class J72, 69010 and Class 11, 12121, at Hull Alexandra Dock, c1955. Finally we have a photo’ of EWS (Dutch liveried) 56046 at North Ferriby with the short-lived intermodal train carrying BELL containers believed to be heading for Liverpool and then onwards by ship to Ireland, on the 15th February, 2001.   2. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic selection of photo’s of Newcastle, Benton and Benton Quarry junction. The first photo’ at Newcastle, with on the right a Class 101 on a service to the coast, with on the left another Class 101 from South Shields, in May, 1974 - exactly 50 years ago - being a superb photo’ of both the crossovers and trains. The whole plate photo’ by your Dad, of A3, 60058, Blair Atholl, on an up express passenger train from Sheffield to London Marylebone, The Master Cutler, at Nottingham Victoria Station in March, 1950, in the rain, is a truly magnificent photo’, and I look forward to seeing many more of these whole plate photo’s. The photo’s at Ratcliffe on Soar are a splendid set. The last photo’ of a Class 45, on a down ballast train, in February, 1983, is a well composed photo’ of the train. With warmest regards, Rob.

The first photo’ is a view of 37409, as it departs Hull Paragon with observation saloon 'Caroline' on the 12th June, 2013. Next we have a photo’ of 31233, as it crawls under the delightful roof of Beverley station with train, 1Q31, the 07:52 Derby R.T.C.- York Loop Network Rail Train on the 9th December, 2013. The third photo’ shows class B1, 61021, at Malton in the early 1960’s. Finally, here’s a photo’ of English Electric Type 3’s, 6732 & 6783, at Hull Dairycoates, in c1968. Best regards, Rob.
  4. Good evening, David. That’s a great set of photo’s of Southern electrics, near Headcorn, on a day in May, 1976. The last photo’, of Class 411, 7182, on a Charing Cross to Ashford service is a beautifully composed photo’ by your Dad of the unit running solo. The photo’s at Burton le Coggles, on the ECML south of Grantham, are an excellent selection. J3154, of Class 55, 9017, which, according to the Napier Chronicles, is the 15.00 Kings Cross to Newcastle, in March, 1973, is a superb photo’ of the train. With warmest regards, Rob.
  5. Good evening, everyone. This evening we have four photo’s courtesy of David Scott, John Turner, Martin Simmons and Andy Mason, allon Flickr. The first photo’ shows a class 123/124 DMU on the 1127 Hull - Manchester Piccadilly service, as it hustles through Hessle on the 13th February, 1980. The second photo’ is a view of 45002, as it works train, 1M48, the 14:04 SSO Scarborough to Luton at Flamborough (just north of Bridlington), on the 13th August, 1983. The photo’ has been taken from the B1255 Marton Gate road overbridge. Thirdly, we have a photo’ of 55009, Alycidon, as it at Hull Paragon Station coupled up to train, 1D62, the evening Hull-Doncaster Passenger Parcels, in the the late 1970’s. Finally, time for a photo’ of 20304, as it leads the sandite set out of Bridlington back to pick up its normal path at Gilberdyke, on the 10th October, 2008. Best regards, Rob.
  6. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s from Cumbria to look at the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway at the inland terminus, Dalegarth, on the 1st August, 1975. The last photo’ is a delightful three quarter portrait shot of the locomotive. The black and white photo’s of Cambridge around 1947/8 are an excellent and historical selection. JVol1415, of a class B17 on a down express passenger train, in 1947, is a superb composition, by your Dad, of a typical GE Section train of the LNER. With warmest regards, Rob.
  7. Good evening, everyone. This evening we have four photo’s thanks to 6089Gardener, Jamerail, Alan Padley and Andy Hugh, all on Flickr. The first one shows a class 110 unit, at Gilberdyke, on the 1219 Leeds to Hull service, on the 5th October, 1985. Next is a photo’ of a class 40, with its inward stock having been shunted out of the way, 40143, waits by to depart Platform 4 at Scarborough, light engine, on the 4th August, 1984. Thirdly we have a photo’ of preserved class B1, 61264, at Gilberdyke, on a day in April, 2006. No other details are given. Finally, here’s a photo’ of 37425 'Sir Robert McAlpine/Concrete Bob' as it departs Hull Paragon Station Siding C in charge of train, 3J51, the 10:00 York Thrall Europa - York Thrall Europa, on the 17th October, 2022.   8. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of the Ongar branch and the maltings which were once rail served at Snape in Suffolk. J5635, at Ongar, with a LT train from Epping to Onger, in February, 1977, being a superb photo’ of a fairly rare sight. A LT train in the countryside. The Ulgham Lane crossing photo’s are a superb selection. C5224, of a Class 40 on an up oil train in November, 1980, being superbly composed, by your Dad, of the weathered 40 and it’s train. The first one shows E52100, a class 123 DMSL, the leading vehicle, of a Trans-Pennine service, as it sets off from Hull Paragon on 30th September, 1982. Next we have a photo’ of 9F’s 92239, and 92231, at Hull Dairycoates, on the 25th February, 1967. The third photo’ is a view of a BRCW Class 104 unit at Scarborough, on the 4th August, 1974. Finally, we have a photo’ of 37219 as it stands in the shadows of Bridlington Station waiting for the road to Hunmanby with train, 1Q05, the 05:42 Doncaster West Yard - Neville Hill T&RSMD, on the 8th December, 2015.   10. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s at Trent, with one from 1975, and the rest from 1983. C6136, of 47347, on an up coal train, in August, 1983, is a superb three quarter shot of the train. The whole plate print of class J5, 65495, in January, 1950 at New Basford, is a true gem, and I hope you can post many more of your Dad’s whole plate prints. The photo’s of Corby Glen, in April, 1963, are a superb selection. J033, of a Class 55, on the up 10.00 Edinburgh to Kings Cross, The Flying Scotsman, being a particularly excellent photo’ of the well known train service. With warmest regards, Rob.
  11. Good evening, everyone. On this cold Saturday evening, we are to be warmed up by four more photo’s. They are by John Turner, David Scott, knoxrj, and Syd Young, all on Flickr. The first photo’ shows 47215, as it accelerates along the Selby Street area of Hull with empty coaching stock, on the 8th May, 1983. The extended caption reads: “The loco and coaches had been used the previous day for one of a number of special workings from Hull to London to carry supporters of Hull RLFC to Wembley for the Challenge Cup Final against Featherstone Rovers. Rovers proved too strong for Hull on the day, and ran out 14-12 winners.” Next we have a photo’ of 03 158 on Hull Paragon Station pilot dutes in May, 1975. Now, here’s a photo’ of LNER, ex-H&BR J23, 2459, stopped for signals at Weedley, on the 12th June, 1929. Apologies about the poor quality of the photo’ but I was wanting to include it for historical reasons. Finally, here’s a photo’ of Cardiff Canton's 37177, which is a long way from its usual stomping grounds as it heads through Hessle with a Hull - Stourton Freightliner service. That’s a fascinating set of photo’s from Germany, with most of the photos at Assmannshausen on the Rhine taken in 1990 and 1991, with one photo’ in the Harz of the Harzquerbahn near Allerbach in July, 1991. C14676, at Assmannshausen, with 140 582, on a northbound freight train, on the 2nd August, 1990, being a superb portrait shot of the locomotive, complete with open cab door. The photo’s of places beginning with "S" are a superb selection. That first photo’ is a lovely one, a family album shot of you at just three years of age, at Sandilands, in August, 1952. Thank you for posting the family photo’s when you do, they are always interesting to see. I too had a train like that at three, but no photo’s have survived. With warmest regards, Rob.

The first one is a view of The National Railway Museum's preserved Stanier, LMS (built Crewe, 1935) class 5 4-6-0 No 5000, as it navigates the complex pointwork on the approaches to Hull Paragon station with the "Yorkshire Pullman" special, on the 2nd April, 1983. Next is a photo’ of a NER four car class 104 DMU approaching Cottingham station in c1965 on it’s way to Hull from either Scarborough or York. The third photo’ shows a view of 37409 as it propels Inspection Salon Caroline into Bridlington on, 2Z02, York-York Inspection Tour, on the 5th June, 2013. Finally, here’s a photo’ of 66147 as it heads U.K Railtours train, 1Z19, the 07:50 London Kings Cross - Beverley `Carols in Beverley Minster' charter past Melton Lowfield Lane, on the 17th December, 2011.   14. Good evening, David. Firstly, I’m sorry to hear about the death of a friend in Canada. Please accept my condolences. That’s a great set of photo’s of the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Railway at Embsay with photos from 1972, 1975 and 1984. J4205, is a fascinating line up of locomotives, Peckett Foleshill and Sentinel Ann and Hudswell Clarke Slugh Estates, as on the 5th March, 1975. What an excellent selection of photo’s at Hathern on the Midland north of Loughborough, in August, 1972. J3015, of Class 45, 84, on an up Sheffield to St Pancras express, is a superb photo’ of a typical early 1970’s Midland Railway express train. With warmest regards, Rob.

The first one is a view of 55009, Alycidon, at Hull Paragon, in c1980. The second photo’ shows B16/3, 61418, near Seamer on the 08.50 Manchester-Scarborough, on the 29th July, 1961. Thirdly we have a photo’ of Metro-Cammell Class 101 DMU’s at Filey Holiday Camp station, with, according to the caption, a slide mount dated July 1977, which might well be right. Last is a photo’ of 66137 after passing over the Market Weighton canal, it drops down the grade on the approach to Broomfleet with 09:15 Milford West Sidings - Hull Biomass Lp empties, on the 13th December, 2014.   16. Good evening, David. That’s a great selection of photo’s of Church Lane crossing on the Great Eastern. J4265, of a Class 37, on a down express, in April, 1975, is a superb photo’ of a once classic GE train. The couple of photo’s from the family albums are excellent. Jimg355Apr, which may be at Cambridge, from about 1948/9, with your Mum in the cab of the loco on the left, is a lovely photo’. And the following photo’ of people at a bus stop is so delightful. You are right, you just do not see people with newspapers on a model railway. I don’t know why. The black and white photo’s from around Trent on the Midland, are a most excellent set, and true gems. The first one is a view from the 5th October, 1985, as a class 108 passes Gilberdyke box on the 1119 Leeds - Hull, and is going onto the down slow line. Next is a photo’ of 47376, on train 6E39, Mostyn - Hull Saltend empty acid tanks, on the 28th June, 1993, at Gilberdyke station. The third photo’ shows Thompson K1 2-6-0 62005 at Melton, East Yorkshire, on the 23rd February, 2002. Finally, we have a photo’ - and the 37 was seen the other day in this thread - of 37402 'Stephen Middlemore 23.12.1954 - 8.6.2013' as it coasts underneath Beverley Railway Station's trainshed while working 0J51 10:15 York Parcels Sidings - York Parcels Siding route learner, on the 23rd July, 2021. C4693, at Tan y Grisiau, of Hunslet, Blanche, on a Porthmadog to Tan y Grisiau service, on the 6th August, 1979, is a superb composition of the train in the cutting. The photo’s at Morpeth are a superb selection. The first photo’ of USP5000, in March, 1981, is an excellent photo’ and should be of help for modellers. With warmest regards, Rob.
  19. Good evening, everyone. This evening we have another four photo’s to enjoy, courtesy of John Turner, Andy Mason, and Chris, all on Flickr. The first one is a view of WD "Austerity" 2-8-0, 90458, (50B), with a northbound trip freight at Anlaby Road, Hull, coming 1966. Both hoppers are branded "to work between Hessle Quarry and Hull Wilmington". The second photo’ shows 29121, and 20214, at Scarborough, on a Pathfinder tour. No date is given or any other details. I don’t think Six Bells will be able to help identify this train. The third photo’ is a study of a class 20 hauling a decent length train of unfitted minerals towards Gilberdyke, on the 15th December, 1980.   20. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of Switzerland, at Rapperswil, on the 31st July and the 1st August, 1988. C9824, of a Südostbahn, Re4/4iii, 42, on a Konstanz Rigi Express, on the 31st July, 1988, is a splendid three quarter portrait shot of the locomotive. The old family photo’ of Pride of the Yare, on the River Trent, at Nottingham circa 1950, is a really lovely shot, and there’s is, as you have stated, much of interest for modellers. The photo’s of the Stray at Harrogate in 1965 and 1966, are a superb selection. The last photo’ of LMS Class 5, 45061, on a Harrogate to Kings Cross service, in July, 1966, is a most excellent photo’ and shows a typical Stanier Black 5 near to the end of steam.   21. Good evening, everyone. This evening we have another four photo’s to enjoy. They are thanks to John Turner, Lewis Bevan, and 6Y99, all on Flickr. The first photo’ shows The National Railway Museum's preserved Stanier, LMS built (Crewe, 1935) class 5 4-6-0 No 5000, as it accelerates along Selby Street, Hull with train 1Z72, the 09:20 Hull to Chester (via Normanton) steam special - 14th May, 1983. Next we have a photo’ of BR Darlington built (1958) 350hp 0-6-0DE shunter D3675, still sporting green livery, reflects the early morning winter sunshine as it shunts Esso oil tank wagons at King George Dock / Saltend, Hull, whilst working No 99 pilot duties in c1969. The third photo’ is a view of Class 08, 08253, at Hull Botanic Gardens depot on the 21st October, 1984. Finally, we have a photo’ of DB Cargo's 66160 powering along the Hull Mainline at around the trains maximum speed of 60mph. As can be seen the train consists of 21 FCA wagons with 20ft Gypsum boxes loaded on to the platform. The train is 6D55, the 1032 Milford West Sidings - Hull Coal Terminal, on the 16th March, 2017.   22. Good evening, David. That’s a great set of photo’s of the London Tilbury and Southend at Laindon in the 1970’s. C3715, of track renewal work, on the 12th March, 1978, is a fascinating study, and how times have changed. The workers would all have to be wearing Hi Vis jackets etc. The photo’s from near to Nottingham at Sneinton junction, are an excellent selection. The first one shows a 37, which having reversed at Hull Hessle East Junction, 37422, ‘Victorious' makes its way back up the Wolds Line at a dull Beverley Parks LC working train, 0J51, the 10:12 York Parcels Sidings - York Parcels Sidings, on the 31st August, 2021. Next we have a photo’ of 03172 which is busy shunting stock at Falsgrave, Scarborough summer 1975. The caption continues: “Note the 40 stabled on the remains of the Whitby branch, this only happened when the signalman had run out of places to stable engines, so was probably a May or August Bank holiday.” The third photo’ is a view of 37023 passing Oxmardyke crossing near Gilberdyke with, 6M63, Hull Saltend to Toton mixed freight on the16th September, 1985. Finally, here’s a photo’ of preserved V2, 60800, at Melton Lowfield Lane, on the 3rd September, 1999. 60800. It is working the railtour, The Scarborough Flyer. Best regards, Rob.
  24. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of of electric locomotives along the WCML. The last photo’ at Sandon Trent and Mersey canal, with a Class 86, on a down express train, in June, 1976, is a beautifully composed photo’ with the tree reflected in the water on the hot summer’s day. The photo’s of Class 20’s on trains to Skegness taken at Bottesford on the Nottingham - Grantham - Skegness line, are a superb selection and it shows something which will never be seen on the railway again. C5855, of two unidentified class 20’s on an extra to Skegness, in August, 1982, is an excellent photo’, and it seems the driver is a bit warm with an arm just outside the cabside window opening.   25. Good evening, everyone. I am sure you are right about that location being Oxmadike crossing, Mick. Sadly the captions in Flickr are often either in error or missing information. Now, this evening, we have four photo’s thanks to 6089Gardener, David Barnsdale, ricsrailpics, and Andy Hughes, all on Flickr. Firstly we have another look at a train which is probably not what is stated in the caption in Flickr. I will just give the engine details and date. It is of 45119, at Gilberdyke, coming off the line from Doncaster, on the 5th October, 1985. Next is a photo’ of 31467 departing Broomfleet with train, 1E43, the 13.41 Manchester Piccadilly to Hull service on the 16th September, 1985. The third photo’ shows 6P5F 'Crab', 42724, Bridlington shed, on the 18th July, 1953. The final photo’ is a view of 66039, as it passes Broomfleet at the head of train, 6D94, the 05:36 Masborough F.D. - Hedon Road Sidings, on the 24th June, 2016. Best regards, Rob.
