  1. Good evening, everyone. This evening we have another four photo’s to enjoy. They are thanks to John Turner, Lewis Bevan, and 6Y99, all on Flickr. The first photo’ shows The National Railway Museum's preserved Stanier, LMS built (Crewe, 1935) class 5 4-6-0 No 5000, as it accelerates along Selby Street, Hull with train 1Z72, the 09:20 Hull to Chester (via Normanton) steam special - 14th May, 1983. Next we have a photo’ of BR Darlington built (1958) 350hp 0-6-0DE shunter D3675, still sporting green livery, reflects the early morning winter sunshine as it shunts Esso oil tank wagons at King George Dock / Saltend, Hull, whilst working No 99 pilot duties in c1969. The third photo’ is a view of Class 08, 08253, at Hull Botanic Gardens depot on the 21st October, 1984. Finally, we have a photo’ of DB Cargo's 66160 powering along the Hull Mainline at around the trains maximum speed of 60mph. As can be seen the train consists of 21 FCA wagons with 20ft Gypsum boxes loaded on to the platform. The train is 6D55, the 1032 Milford West Sidings - Hull Coal Terminal, on the 16th March, 2017.   2. Good evening, David. That’s a great set of photo’s of the London Tilbury and Southend at Laindon in the 1970’s. C3715, of track renewal work, on the 12th March, 1978, is a fascinating study, and how times have changed. The workers would all have to be wearing Hi Vis jackets etc. The photo’s from near to Nottingham at Sneinton junction, are an excellent selection. C3894, of 25211, on a westbound freight, in June, 1978, is a superb three quarter portrait shot of the locomotive. With warmest regards, Rob.
  3. Good evening, everyone. This evening we have four photo’s to enjoy. They are courtesy of Andy Hughes, Ado Griff, David Barnsdale, and Philip Wheldale, all on Flickr. The first one shows a 37, which having reversed at Hull Hessle East Junction, 37422, ‘Victorious' makes its way back up the Wolds Line at a dull Beverley Parks LC working train, 0J51, the 10:12 York Parcels Sidings - York Parcels Sidings, on the 31st August, 2021. Next we have a photo’ of 03172 which is busy shunting stock at Falsgrave, Scarborough summer 1975. The caption continues: “Note the 40 stabled on the remains of the Whitby branch, this only happened when the signalman had run out of places to stable engines, so was probably a May or August Bank holiday.” The third photo’ is a view of 37023 passing Oxmardyke crossing near Gilberdyke with, 6M63, Hull Saltend to Toton mixed freight on the16th September, 1985. Finally, here’s a photo’ of preserved V2, 60800, at Melton Lowfield Lane, on the 3rd September, 1999. 60800. It is working the railtour, The Scarborough Flyer. Best regards, Rob.
  4. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of of electric locomotives along the WCML. The last photo’ at Sandon Trent and Mersey canal, with a Class 86, on a down express train, in June, 1976, is a beautifully composed photo’ with the tree reflected in the water on the hot summer’s day. The photo’s of Class 20’s on trains to Skegness taken at Bottesford on the Nottingham - Grantham - Skegness line, are a superb selection and it shows something which will never be seen on the railway again. C5855, of two unidentified class 20’s on an extra to Skegness, in August, 1982, is an excellent photo’, and it seems the driver is a bit warm with an arm just outside the cabside window opening.   5. Good evening, everyone. I am sure you are right about that location being Oxmadike crossing, Mick. Sadly the captions in Flickr are often either in error or missing information. Now, this evening, we have four photo’s thanks to 6089Gardener, David Barnsdale, ricsrailpics, and Andy Hughes, all on Flickr. Firstly we have another look at a train which is probably not what is stated in the caption in Flickr. I will just give the engine details and date. It is of 45119, at Gilberdyke, coming off the line from Doncaster, on the 5th October, 1985. Next is a photo’ of 31467 departing Broomfleet with train, 1E43, the 13.41 Manchester Piccadilly to Hull service on the 16th September, 1985. The third photo’ shows 6P5F 'Crab', 42724, Bridlington shed, on the 18th July, 1953. The final photo’ is a view of 66039, as it passes Broomfleet at the head of train, 6D94, the 05:36 Masborough F.D. - Hedon Road Sidings, on the 24th June, 2016. Best regards, Rob.
  6. Good evening, David. That’s a fascinating set of photo’s of places in Scotland beginning with F and G. C6902, at Garelochead, taken from the train hauled by 37259 and 37121, WBHS Fort William to Newcastle, on the 11th May, 1985, being a superb shot, and it will be of use for modellers. The photo’s of Peascliffe Tunnel, on the ECML north of Grantham, in 1970, 1977 and 1983, are a splendid selection. C6115, of 31209, on an up bullion train, in July, 1983, is a superb photo’ of a train I have rarely seen. With warmest regards, Rob.
  7. Good evening, everyone. This evening, with thanks to MR P, John Turner, and West Halton Sidings, all on Flickr, we have another four photo’s to enjoy. The first one is a view of Martin Walker`s (Beaver sports) owned 55022 "Royal Scots Grey" which is seen passing Falsgrave signal box as it enters Scarborough station with train, 1Z41, the 07.59 Newcastle to Scarborough Gbrf staff charter, on the 24th July, 2010. The second photo’ shows another Class 55 "Deltic", this one being 55009 "Alycidon" at Hull Paragon with train, 1A28, the 16:30 Hull to King's Cross, on the 19th May, 1981. Thirdly, we have a photo’ of WD "Austerity" 2-8-0, 90132, with a Class H freight at Staddlethorpe Junction, on the 18th January, 1964. Lastly this photo’ shows Driver Dave Adams giving a cheery wave as he and 66058 storm past Gilberdyke Signal Box with an empty biomass bound for Hull Docks on the 4th May, 2015. Best regards, Rob.
  8. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of Switzerland at Kleine Scheidegg where trains leave for the Jungfrau, on the 12th August, 1991. C16329, of WAB BDeh4/4, is a stunning photo’, and how small the train looks in the middle of the scenery. The extra, odd man out photo’ of Grantham, with a Class 55, on the 08.10 Newcastle to Kings Cross service, in September, 1971, is an excellent and well composed shot. The colours look very good to my old eyes. And the photo’s from around Gonalston crossing are a superb selection. J5047, of a Class 47, on a down oil train, in January, 1976, is a most atmospheric composition in the low January sunlight and cloud. With warmest regards, Rob.
  9. Good evening, everyone. Firstly, many thanks, Mick, for posting that excellent photo’ of G5, 67282, Paragon pilot, at Victoria Crossing, c1955. This evening we have four photo’s thanks to Andy Mason, Mervyn, and Mark Finch, all on Flickr. The first one is a view of a class 45 at Broomfleet, thought to be 1986 or 1987. The details are provided by someone in the comments on Flickr, as follows: 1E54 0620 Paddington to Hull. Hull Portion split off and worked forward by the train engine and a 31 worked the Bradford portion. Departed Hull back as 1J01 1420 Hull - Sheffield joined up with a Bradford to Brighton job. The second photo’ shows 47100, in Stratford style, as it heads away from Seamer in the mid 1980’s on an engineers train. The next photo’ is a view of Layerthorpe station at York, with class J72, Joem, about to depart on one of the short lived passenger trains in 1978. Finally, here’s a photo’ of 56094 "Eggborough Power Station" passes a fine array of semaphore signals on the approach to Gilberdyke on 6D54, a Hull-Doncaster Belmont enterprise, on the 2nd March, 2004.   10. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s at Grantham. J5617, of a Class 55, on the down Flying Scotsman, in January, 1977, is a superb and most atmospheric photo’ by your Dad. The photo’s of Bentley, between Manningtree and Ipswich on the Great Eastern Mainline, in May and June 1975, are a superb selection. The last photo’ of a Class 47, on a Norwich to Liverpool St. service, in June, 1975, is an excellent and well composed shot. With warmest regards, Rob.
  11. Good evening, everyone. Firstly, many thanks, Mick, for that correction about 461. I have corrected the caption. And what an excellent photo’ of 461 you have posted. Now, this evening it is time for four more photo’s courtesy of John Law, The KDH archive, Chris, and Adrian Nicholls, all on Flickr. The first one is a view of class 04, 6617, at Springhead in LNER days. The second photo’s shows, heading west through Gilberdyke for the Selby line judging by the signals is 31425 on an unidentified passenger service sometime in April 1984. Next is a photo’ of De,tic, 55002, as it heads the 1234 Hull to King’s Cross through Gilberdyke, on the 15th December, 1980. Finally, here’s a photo’ of 66 126 as it rattles across Gilberdyke Junction passing the North Eastern Railway 1903 built signal box with its 55 lever McKenzie & Holland manual frame. The class 66 is working train, 6D82, the 11.52 FO Milford West Sidings to Hull Docks Coal Terminal. The train being made up of empty gypsum containers, and it is the 25th November, 2016.   12. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s at Southside, on the ECML in Northumberland, with one showing the Whittle colliery exchange sidings. C5877, at Southside with a Class 37 on a down oil train, in November, 1982, is a well composed photo’ of the train. The photo’s from the East Midlands at Stanton Ironworks, Stanton Gate on the Erewash Valley line and near Sutton Bonnington on the Midland north of Loughborough, are a superb selection. J449, at Stanton Gate, with an ex-LMS Ivatt Class 4 2-6-0 down empty coal train, in mist, in April, 1966, is a most atmospheric photo’ by your Dad. With warmest regards, Rob.
  13. Good evening, everyone. Firstly, again, many thanks, Mick, for the excellent photo’ of H&BRly Class A, on a train of up empties passing through North Cave in c1910. This evening we have four photo’s to enjoy, courtesy of John Law, John Turner, The KDH archive, and West Halton Sidings. The first one is a photo’ of Class J74 ex NERly, 461, at Hull Alexandra Dock, in LNER days. Next is a photo’ of BR Darlington built (1954) 350hp 0-6-0DE shunter D3079, as it shunts 35T GLW oil tank wagons at a snowy King George Dock, Hull whilst working No 99 pilot duties, in c1966. The third photo’ shows 31432, at Gilberdyke, on what is probably a Manchester to Hull service, in April, 1984. Finally, we have a present day photo’ of TransPennine Express class 802 no. 802203 as it heads past Hessle Road Signal Box with a crew training run as part of the preparation for these units being introduced on TPE's Hull services later in the year.   14. Good evening, David. That is a fantastic set of photo’s from around Derwenthaugh just west of Gateshead, in January, 1984. C6344, of 37068, is a most excellent shot of the 37. The black and white photo’s from around Grantham in about 1950/1, are a superb selection. JVol3176, at Grantham Barrowby Road Junction, with a A1 on a down express passenger train, in c1950, is a splendid photo’, and the A1 is seen to be hauling a most interesting selection of carriages.   15. Good evening, everyone. First, many thanks, Mick,for the lovely photo’ of Walton Street crossing from the front of a DMU in about 1962. This evening there are a further four photo’s to enjoy. They are courtesy of The KDH archive, David Barnsdale, Neville Wellings, and Andy Hughes. The first photo’ is of a train coming off the Goole line at Gilberdyke in April, 1984, a Trans Pennine DMU, heading for Hull. Next is a photo’ of 47526 as it passes Gilberdyke with train, 1D01, the 10.44 Kings Cross to Hull Service on the 16th December, 1987. The third photo’ is a study of SVR based black five LMS 5000 running from Hull to Chester past the semaphores on the four track section of line at Gilberdyke, on the 14th May, 1983. Finally, here’s a photo’ of 60039 `Dove Holes' as it approaches Melton, Lowfield Lane, in charge of train, 6J94, the 12:25 Hedon Road Sidings - Masborough F.D. on the 25th November, 2016.   16. Good evening, David. That is a great selection of photo’s at Lakeside station, on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, in August, 1975. The first photo’ of Lakeside station from Gunners Howe is a simply stunning scene and it is easy to see why people love the Lake District. The photo’s at Chaloner’s Whin Junction, York, in 1966, and 1967, are a excellent set, and full of nostalgia. The last photo’ of a Class 101 unit on a Leeds to Scarborough service, in March, 1967, shows the unit to be formed as follows: A class 101/1 DMCL, a class 101 TSL, with just two cream lines, a class 104 TBSL, and the other class 101/1 DMCL. The first one shows 975025 "Caroline" propelled by 37418 "An Comunn Gaidhealach" at Gilberdyke, on the 4th May, 2023. Train working being 2Z02, 09.27, York to York. Next is a photo’ which is at Gilberdyke once again, and shows 31457, on train 1M31, from Hull - Manchester Piccadilly, on the 27th November, 1985. The third photo’ is a view of WD, 90265, as it takes the "up Goole branch" line from Staddlethorpe Junction with a Class H train of tank wagons, on the 18th January, 1964. Last is a photo’ of 37402 'Stephen Middlemore 23.12.1954 - 8.6.2013' as it crosses Spring Bank West at Walton Street LC while working train, 0J51, the 10:15 York Parcels Sidings - York Parcels Sidings, on the 20th July, 2021.   18. Good evening, David. That is a fantastic set of photo’s from Scotland. C211, at Stranraer harbour, with a Class 27, in April, 1970, is a fascinating study, and the 27 seems very small compared with the size of the harbour. The photo’s of Grassington in 1965,1966 and 1967 along with Cracoe in 1973, are a superb selection. J289, at Grassington, with BR Class 4MT, 75039, in August, 1965, is a beautifully composed photo’, and shows some cleaning had taken place on the locomotive. With warmest regards, Rob.

The first one is a photo’, taken from the wall opposite Falsgrave signal box , with 03089, as it awaits its next task whilst a class 31 and 45 wait to return their excursion trains from the platforms at Scarborough, on the 8th of July, 1980. The second photo’ shows Dairycoates (50B) allocated WD "Austerity" 2-8-0, 90450, as it departs Salt End/King George Dock with a train of Shell/BP tank wagons, in c1967. Next we have a photo’ of Deltic, 55019, as it passes Gilberdyke, with the 09:33 Hull - Kings Cross, on the 15th December, 1980. Finally, we have another Deltic at Gilberdyke, this time 55 011, The Royal Northumberland Fusiliers, at Gilberdyke Junction, on the 12.20 King's Cross - Hull.   20. Good evening, David. That’s a great selection of photo’s of Swayfield. J4124, of a Class 47, on an up working, in December, 1974, is a superb shot, in the December sun of what you have surmised is a special train. The headcode and Mkl carriages both help to confirm that. The photo’s from around the Southern are most impressive. C3814, at Hollingbourne, with Class 414’s, 6077 and 6105, on the 30th April, 1978, is a superb photo’ with the two units well framed by the footbridge. With warmest regards, Rob.
  21. Good evening, everyone. Firstly, thank you, ick, for that lovely photo’ of ex-H&BRly F2, now N12, 2486. This evening, courtesy of John Turner, loose_grip_99, Antony Guppy, and john catterson, all on Flickr, we have four photo’s to enjoy. The first one is a view of Riddles designed "Austerity" 8F 2-8-0, 90695, as it passes the closed former North Eastern Railway station at Southcoates (Hull) with a train of tank wagons from Salt End in c1966. The second photo’ shows a 2 car class 105, Cravens, dmu, on the 1st October, 1981, on a train to Beverley, as it waits outside Hull Paragon, at one of the long closed platforms. Next we have a photo’ of 55 015 'Tulyar' as it accelerates over Gilberdyke Junction on the 12.05 King's Cross to Hull, on the 5th October, 1979. The Finsbury Park racehorse applies power for the straight race ahead along the Humber estuary to it's destination. Finally, here’s a photo’ of Gilberdyke station, on Sunday, the 7th February, 1999, with 37372’ as it draws up in the station on a train of redundant track panels picked up from the Goole line before heading to Hull to run-round and return to Doncaster.   22. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s from Switzerland at Zweissimmen, on the 16th August, 1991. C16454, of MOB BDe4/4, 37, is a particularly excellent three quarter portrait shot of the railcar. The WCML photo’s from around Hademore and Harow and Wealdstone, are an excellent selection. J5292, at Harrow and Wealdstone, with a Class 501, on a Watford to London service, in June, 1976, going away from the camera, is a superb shot, and the guards van door can be seen to be open in the leading car of the rear three car set.   23. Good evening, everyone. First I must apologise about the slip up about the railtour from yesterday when the predictive text got me to put Yorkshire instead of York. It has now been corrected. This evening we have four more photo’s to enjoy, courtesy of Murray Liston, John Turner, Chris, and John Law, all on Flickr. The first one is a view of the Derwent Valley Light Railway in York, at the premises of Yorkshire Grain Driers Ltd, who had their own loco to shunt grain wagons around their Dunnington site. This 1930s design John Fowler 4100005 was built in 1948 for Reed Paper’s Colthrop Mill at Thatcham and was sold here in 1971. It was named Churchill and apparently did not see too much use, the exhaust is covered by a black bag when photographed here on the 20th July, 1979. Next we have a photo’ of 37250 about to cross St George's Road level crossing in Hull with a train of 16T mineral wagons, on the 14the May, 1983. The third photo’ shows 55009, at Gilberdyke, with the 08:05 Kings Cross to Hull express on the 30th April, 1981. Finally, we have a photo’ of 4468, Mallard, on The Scarborough Spa Express, in August, 1986, as it passes through Malton station. Best regards, Rob.
  24. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic selection of photo’s at Butterley, The Midland Railway Trust, in 1978 and 1982. C3848, of 4F, 44027, on the 27th May, 1978, is a splendid three quarter portrait shot of the locomotive. The black and white, late 1940’s photo’s at Cambridge, are a superb set. The last photo’ of a K3 on an ordinary passenger train in 1947, is an excellent photo’, and it can be seen that the formation of stock after the LMS BG, is a five car steel articulated set with the CK replaced with a teak bodied example.   25. Good evening, everyone. Firstly, thank you, Mick, for that excellent photo’ of 12114, shunting the Hump at New Inward Yard, in the mid '50's. Plus the map of a might have been, a c1914 proposal to buid a loop south of Springhead. Now, this evening we, we have four photo’s thanks to Andy Mason, John Turner, Simon Kerry, and Syd Young, all on Flickr. The first one is a view of 37332+248 as they storm up Speeton bank with the Scarborough Maid railtour. The details, according to Six Bells are: It ran on the 31st March, 1997, from Reading to York, Selby, Hull, Scarborough, York and back to Reading. 56078 worked the tour from Scarborough to York, with the 37’s on the rear. The second photo’ shows The National Railwaty Museum's preserved Stanier, LMS built (Crewe, 1935) class 5 4-6-0 No 5000 (with support coach) as it runs along Selby Street, Hull, on its way to Paragon station in anticipation of working 1Z72, the 09:20 Hull to Chester (via Normanton) steam special, on the 14th May, 1983. Next we have a photo’ of 47847 working train 4D94, a Doncaster to Hull gypsum train through Gilberdyke on the 10th April, 2015. Finally, we have a photo’, taken from Brickyard Lane bridge, of 66250 passing with train, 6J94, the 12:25 Hedon Road - Rotherham Masborough steel empties on the 20th January, 2015. Best regards, Rob.
