  1. Good evening, everyone. This evening we have four photo’s courtesy of Chris, John Law, roger5450, and Patrick O’Brien, all on Flickr. The first one is a view of a Trans-Pennine service to Hull, as it gets the right of way at Gilberdyke, as a class 31 helps out with an engineers train, on the 11th April, 1984. Next we have a photo’ of the Derwent Valley Light Railway at the York Layerthorpe terminus, with Lord Wenlock, in the summer of 1977. The third photo’ shows 9F, 92231, at Hull Dairycoates, on the 25th February, 1967. Finally, here’s a photo’ of B1, 61032, Stembok, which has its motion removed for repairs to be carried out in the roundhouse at Hull Dairycoates (50B), probably in 1965/66, as there appears to be a EE Type 3 on the turntable. Best regards, Rob.
  2. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic selection of photo’s from around Morpeth in the early 1980’s. The first photo’ of a Class 37 to Blyth and Tyne, in August, 1980, is a superb three quarter portrait shot of the locomotive. It is well weathered too. The black and white photo’s at Trumpington, in 1948, are a truly remarkable set. The last photo’ of a D16 on an up passenger train from Cambridge to Liverpool St. is a true gem as the locomotive is seen storming away with it’s train of a horsebox and some non corridor carriages. With warmest regards, Rob.
  3. Good evening, everyone. This evening we have four more photo’s thanks to Robert Gadsdon, 54A Photography, Ado Griff, and George Woods, all on Flickr. The first photo’ is of Ex-LNER/BR Thompson B1 4-6-0, 61329, at Scarborough Central station, in August, 1965. Next we have a photo’ of class B1 4-6-0, 61176, as it hustles an evening train past Hessle Haven on the 28th August, 1964. The third photo’ shows Class 40, 40078, departing from Platform 1 at Scarborough, on the 12th of July, 1980. Finally, we have a photo’ of 37401, at Hull Paragon station, on an RHTT, on the 4th November, 2022. Best regards, Rob.
  4. Good evening, David. That’s a great selection of photo’s of Shildon in August, 1975, during the S&D 150 Event celebrating 150 years since the Stockton and Darlington Railway opened, with the first one from June, 1974, on a RCHS trip. C2356, of B1, 1306, Mayflower, on the 24th August, 1975, is an excellent rear three quarter portrait shot. It was also taken just under ten years since the B1 hauled the last train from Hull to York via Market Weighton in November, 1965. The photo’s of an assortment of places beginning with M and N are a most interesting set. J3946, at Munlochy, on the Fortrose branch, in August, 1974, is a delightful and tranquil scene. With warmest regards, Rob.
  5. Good evening, everyone. This evening we have another four photo’s to enjoy. They courtesy of Tilt Cab Man, Ado Griff, Murray Liston, and Syd Young, all on Flickr. The first one is a view of Class 31 No.31422, as it pulls into Scarborough station, past the NER signal box and under the fine gantry of semaphores that controlled the station throat. In the sidings on the left, a Class 08 shunter can be glimpsed. The date is from June, 1985. The second photo’ shows 37003 light engine at Scarbrough Station on the 12th of July, 1980. Thirdly, we have a photo’ of J72 69023, Joem, seen here at Dunnington on 20th July 1979. Finally, here is a photo’ of 55018 Ballymoss, as it arrives in Hull on the evening of 16th May, 1979, with train, 1D04, the 17:05 King's Cross to Hull, "The Hull Executive". Best regards, Rob.
  6. Good evening, David. That’s a great selection of photo’s of Denmark, with the first two at Varde, and the last three are taken around Vejle, north of Fredericia, in August, 1994. The first photo’ at Varde, with a Westerbanen dmu, on the 18th August, 1994, is a delightful and well composed shot of the unit. The photo’s from around Little Bytham on Stoke Bank, from 1970 to 1973, are an excellent set. The last photo’ of Class 47, 1578, on the up 15.25 Leeds to Kings Cross service, in May, 1973, is an excellent photo’, and it can be seen that the Mkll FK is a Mkllb. With warmest regards, Rob.
  7. Good evening, everyone. This evening here’s four more photo’s to enjoy courtesy of Ado Griff, geoff7918, Mark Walker, and Andy Hughes, all on Flickr. The first one shows class 03, 2113, seen here at Scarborough on the 2nd of September, 1972. Note the ‘totem’ on the radiator. Next we have a photo’, again at Scarborough, of 45019, which is is stationary at platform 1, and in the centre 45110 is reversing stock into the station. The trains were both excursions from Shrewsbury and Taunton respectively, on the 28th May, 1984. The third photo’ is a view of WD, 90462, which is pictured inside Hull Dairycoates MPD in 1966, with coupling rods removed. There are other WD’s to be seen too. Finally, here’s a photo’ of 20303 with 20301 on the rear leaving Bridlington past Bridlington South Signal Box working a VSTP, 3S11, York Works to York Works RHTT working, on the 16th October, 2008. Best regards, Rob.
  8. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of Sheffield Park on the Bluebell Railway back in 1976 and 1978. The first photo’ of USA, 30064, in October, 1976, is a superb and well composed photo’ of the locomotive. The photo’s of Cramlington, on the ECML, north of Newcastle, in 1984 and 1985, are an excellent selection. The last photo’ of 27017 hauling 47527, on an up light engine movement, on the 5th July, 1985, is an excellent photo’ and has well captured the 27 hauling the 47. With warmest regards, Rob.
  9. Good evening, everyone. Firstly, many thanks, Mick, for the photo’ of the rebuilt B16, at Hessle Haven, which is a most atmospheric photo’. Now, this evening we, we have four photo’s to enjoy seeing, thanks to John Turner, roger5450, David Scott, and Andy Hughes. The first photo’ is a view of 9F, 92239, and B1, 61017, amongst others, at Hull Dairycoates, on the 25th February, 1967. Next we have a photo’ of WD "Austerity" 8F 2-8-0 90009 at Dairycoates MPD - c1966. The third photo’ shows Deltic, 55010, at Brough, on the 6th July, 1979, working a service to London King’s Cross. Finally, here’s a photo’ of 66018, as it passes through Beverley with train 6T66, the 13:16 Beverley to Doncaster Up Decoy, on the 24th January, 2016. Best regards, Rob.
  10. Good evening, David. That’s a great set of photo’s from Northern Germany, at Süderbraup, on the 12th August, 1992. The first photo’ of 212 006 is a splendid shot of the locomotive against the large building in the background. That is a superb selection of photo’s from York. What an atmospheric shot J587 is of a B1, in August, 1966. I can just see that the next to last number is a 2. There are no electric lights, so it may be a lower numbered engine, so, on looking at the BR Database, it looks to be 61021, 22, 29, or 61123. No later ones since they had the electric lights. I hope that may be of some help. With warmest regards, Rob.
  11. Good evening, everyone. Firstly, thank you, and a warm welcome to the forum, Hst43110. That’s a most excellent photo’, and some welcome details about the train working. I hope you’ll be able to make more contributions in the future. That’s fascinating, about your ex brother in law, steve, and that has brought the photo’ of the 20’s on the Vladivostok Avoider to life. So, this evening, we have another four photo’s to enjoy thanks to Robert Gadsdon, Andy Hughes, Ado Griff, and Trevor Casey, all on Flickr. The first photo’ is a view of Hull, with a B1 shunting the goods yard at the north side of Hull Paragon station - the inclined siding to the Coal Yard visible at the top left. So, in about 1965, Ex-LNER/BR Thompson B1 4-6-0 61289, on a sunny winters day, in around 1965, is doing the shunting. Next we have a photo’ of 56068, as it passes Hessle Haven in charge of train, 6V14, from Hull Saltend to Baglan Bay, on the 7th September, 2001. The third photo’ is what is beleived to be 47053, arriving at platform 1, Scarborough, on the 17th of July, 1976. Finally, here’s a photo’ of class 14, D9541, at Hull Dairycoates, on the 17th March, 1968. Best regards, Rob.
  12. Good evening, David. That’s a great selection of photo’s of the WCML around Elvanfoot, in the days of Class 50’s, from August, 1973. J3345, of class 50’s 415 and 409, on the up 1M30, 11.40, Glasgow Central to London Euston, is a beautifully composed photo’, and it can be seen that the roof vents of the Mkll BFK look to be Roevacs, so, if so, it is a Mkllb. The three photo’s Ulgham Grange crossing, and the two at Ulgham Lane crossing are a superb set. C6101, at Ulgham Grange crossing, with 20218 and another one, on a down cement wagons train, in July, 1983, is an excellent photo’, and captures the atmosphere of both the train and the Summers weather perfectly. With warmest regards, Rob.
  13. Good evening, everyone. This evening, we have another four photo’s courtesy of ricsrailpics, Syd Young, and trainsofhull, all on Flickr. The first one is a shot of Class B1, 61087 on a Bridlington to Doncaster return excursion composed of Stanier corridor stock, on the 1st August, 1963. Next is a photo’ of WD, 90378, shunting in Bridlington yard, on the 31st December, 1964. The third photo’ shows 20078, 20032 and 20055 as they catch some late evening sunlight through the poplar trees at Botanic Gardens on the 8th May, 1980. Finally, here’s a photo’ of 60040 as it works trsin, 6J94, from Hedon Road to Rotherham ST, through Hessle, on the 4th October, 2018. Best regards, Rob.
  14. Good evening, David. That’s a great set of photo’s of Grantham from over the years. C1465, of a Class 47, on a down freightliner train, in January, 1974, is a most atmospheric shot, with the gloomy conditions around the fairly bright lightbulb visible in the fourcharacter headcode box. White paint, from the platform edge can be seen to have dribbled down in a way which might be replicated on some models. The photo’s of Cambridge, in black and white, from around 1947/8, are a superb selection. JVol1425, of B2, 61671, Royal Sovereign, and B2, 61617, Ford Castle, in 1947, is a gem, and taken from a high vantage point which makes things look a bit like a model railway. With warmest regards, Rob.
  15. Good evening, everyone. Firstly, many thanks, Mick, for the better copy of the photo’ of H&BR number 38. This evening we have another four photo’s to enjoy. They are courtesy of Ado Griff, Robert Gadsdon, Chris, and John Turner, all on Flickr. The first one is a view of 03174 at Scarborough loco stabling point, in the summer of 1975. The caption states that it was a bit strange, since it was based at Healey Mills at the time. The second photo’ is a sad view of seven Ex-NER LNER B16s at Hull Dairycoates loco shed, on a sunny day in August 1964, with B16/3 61463 nearest the camera. This loco had been withdrawn in June 1964, and was scrapped in September. Thirdly, we have a photo’ of Scarborough on the 29th July, 1981, with a line up of locomotives of classes 03, 08, 31, 40 and 45’s. It will never be like that again… The last one is a view of WD, 90677, at Dairycoates, on the 25th February, 1967. And it does appear that the tender is right up against something - uneven track? Best regards, Rob.
  16. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, at Haverthwaite, with photos from 1973 and 1975. The last photo’ of Fairburn 4MTT, masquerading as CR 2085, in August, 1975, actually looks good in the Caledonian blue livery. The photo’s at Skipton on the 17th March, 1968, are a superb selection, and form an excellent record of how things were on BR in those sad, final months of steam on BR. J1231, of Class 5s 45447 and 45110, on special No2, from Stockport to Carnforth, in March, 1968, is a truly splendid photograph of not only the train, but the bullhead track in the foreground on the softwood sleepers. A ‘proper railway’. With warmest regards, Rob.
  17. Good evening, everyone. Firstly, thank you, Mick, for the detailed information about the C12 photo’. That is really helpful. And thank you, Nigel, and Davexoc, for finding information about the RES 47 hauled train at Scarborough. It does indeed look like the 47 is 47757, Restitution. This last evening of Wintertime we have four more photo’s to enjoy. They are courtesy of Murray Liston, John Law, Ernie’s Railway Archive and Andy Mason, all on Flickr. The first one is a view of class J25, 65671, at Malton shed in the 1950’s. Next we have a photo’ of H&BRwy, Beyer-Peacock, 2-4-0, 38, on Springhead shed in pre grouping days. THe third photo’ is a view of the Derwent Valley Light Railway, with ex-BR Class 04 (D2298) at Layerthorpe on the 15th July, 1979. The final photo’ shows a view of 20010 +20215, at Scarborough, on the 12th May, 1990, on the Vladivostock Avoider. Here’s a link to the full details on Six Bells: http://www.sixbellsjunction.co.uk/90s/900512ct.htm Best regards, Rob.
  18. Good evening, David. That’s a great selection of photo’s of Switzerland at Pfäffikon, in 1988, and 1990. C15003, of Ae4/7, 11022, on a parcels train, on the 9th August, 1990, being a particularly superb shot of the locomotive. The mixed bag of photo’s, all beginning with W, are a superb set. The last photo’ at Wellingborough, of 45106, on a down express, on the 9th August, 1977, is a well composed photo’ of the Peak as it leans to the left in the station on the canted track. With warmest regards, Rob.
  19. Good evening, everyone. Firstly, thank you, Mick, for the excellent photo’ of 461, at Springhead. And thank you, Mike, for the story behind the photo’ of MN, 35018, British India Line on the Scarborough Spa Express at Scarborough on the 5th August, 2021. I am not sure but in the supplied caption it states the C12 is on an ex-South Howden to Hull service so that could be near Springhead Halt. Now, this evening, we have a further four photo’s to enjoy courtesy of Andy Mason, John Turner, RobT653, and Robert Gadsdon, all on Flickr. The first one is a view of BR English Electric Class 40, 40075, on the newly-installed turntable just outside Scarborough station, sometime in 1981. Next we have a photo’ of D2158, on hire to the Derwent Valley Light Railway. So, York shed's Class 03 0-6-0DM shunter D2158 passes Osbaldwick with a down DVLR pick-up freight, on the 15th April, 1964. The third photo’ is a study of 117306, which has clearly just been outshopped in Regional Railways livery, as seen at Bridlington South on the 24th August, 1991. It's a long haul for a DMU though, this was the 12:56 (SO) Scarborough to Leicester service, a Summer Saturday dated working for holiday traffic. Finally, here’s a photo’ of RES 47776 departing Scarborough, on a special train of which I am, sadly, unable to read the headboard, so cannot get the details from Six Bells Junction. Best regards, Rob.
  20. Good evening, David. That’s a great selection of Scottish photo’s. The first photo’ at Eastfield, of 37026, on the 2nd March, 1984, is a superb portrait shot of the 37. The photo’s from around Pelaw Junction are a splendid set. The first photo’ of 47218, on an up oil train, on the 1st August, 1985, is a excellent shot of the 47, which is nicely weathered. With warmest regards, Rob.
  21. Good evening, everyone. This evening, thanks to knoxrj, and Andy Mason, both on Flickr, we have a further four photo’s to enjoy seeing. The first one is a view of class J74, 461, at Hull Springhead, sometime in the 1930’s. The second photo’ shows a most interesting short train. A class C12, 4542, is hauling the 13.55 (SO) ex-South Howden, on the 21st April, 1934. The formation is an ex-NER 6 wheel passenger brake van, and a non corridor, 49’, eight compartment all third. Presumably first class was not required on this service - a steam railcar substitution? Thirdly, we have a photo’ of 47592, hauling a railtour called The Manchester Executive Pullman, at Seamer West Junction, heading away on the York line. No date given, but is possibly the 1980’s. Finally, here’s a photo’ of 45107+45007, on the `45 finale`, date being the 3rd October, 1987. The headcode was almost certainly 1Z46. Best regards, Rob.
  22. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s, with two at Monkton Cokeworks, Gateshead and three at Middlesbrough. The first photo’ at Monkton Cokeworks, with 08888 and NCB 03099, on the 15th August, 1985, being a particularly interesting photo’, with lots of detail for the modeller. The photo’s at Swayfield, on Stoke Bank, in 1970 and 1972, are a superb selection. C0994, of a Class 47, on the down 18.30 Kings Cross to Hull service, in July, 1972, is a most nostalgic shot and the special coating on the cab windows can be clearly seen. With warmest regards, Rob.
  23. Good evening, everyone. This evening, we have a set of four photo’s thanks to John Turner, Richard, and Andy Hughes, all on Flickr. The first one is a view of Trainload liveried (unbranded) 0-6-0DE 08499 manoeuvres MGR hopper wagons whilst they are loaded with imported coal by an unidentifiable Caterpillar 980C Wheel Loader at King Geroge Dock, Hull, in c1991. Next we have a photo’ of Riddles WD "Austerity" 2-8-0s (with 90704 to the right of the image) near the coaling stage at Dairycoates (50B) MPD, in c1966. The third photo’ shows D49/2 62763 'The Fitzwiliam' at Hull Dairycoates. No date given, but certainly the 1950’s. Finally, here’s a photo’ of 66419, as it does it's bit for the enviroment as it passes Hull Anlaby Road Junction working the 09:30 Hull - Doncaster route/refresher working, on the 7th April, 2022. Best regards, Rob.
  24. Good evening, David. That’s a great selection of photo’s from the 1970’s at Loughborough Central. J4167, of Hunslet Robert Nelson No 4, on an empty coaching stock movement, in March, 1975, is a superb photo’ by your Dad. The photo’s from 1976 and 1977 at Stenson Junction, taken from the bridge by the power station sidings, are a most excellent set. The first photo’ of 47, 47343, on a down freight train, in August, 1976, is a splendid composition by your Dad, and I can only make an educated guess as to why the cab door is open. It was that long, hot summer, and since the driver can be seen driving, the door must be open for some extra ventilation. With warmest regards, Rob.
  25. Good evening, everyone. Firstly, thank you, Mick, for straightening up 2524, and the plan of part of Springhead shed. This evening we another four photo’s to enjoy seeing, thanks to Jamerail, RobT653, John Law and Ernies Railway Archive, all on Flickr. The first one is a view of 40034, as it sits under the station roof at Scarborough, platform 4, on the 10th September, 1983. Secondly, we have a photo’ of a class 108 and a class 101 DMU as it makes a smoky exit from Scarborough with a Hull service on 2nd August, 1986. “Unfortunately,” the photographer in the caption reads, “I have not recorded the details of the service.” In the station is a Class 110 "Calder Valley" DMU and 45146, which was to form the 12:20 Scarborough to Leicester (SO) service. The third photo’ shows H&BRwy, 0-6-0T, 3, at Springhead shed, in pre grouping days. Finally, we have a photo’ of Malton shef, on the 16th June, 1962, with class J27, 65844. Also a J39 is part visible alongside, and an LMS 2-6-4T. Best regards, Rob.
