  1. Good evening, David. That is a fantastic set of photo’s of Grantham. J5621, of a Class 47 on a Newcastle to Kings Cross service, in January, 1977, is a beautifully composed shot and the 47 is seen producing a thick column of exhaust as it starts the train away from the station. The black and white photo’s at Radford are an exceptional selection. The last photo’ of Jubilee, 45694, Bellerophon, on an up express passenger train, in c1951, is a superb study of the Jubilee at the head of the express. With warmest regards, Rob.
  2. Good evening, everyone. This evening, thanks to John Turner, Peter Brumby, knoxrj, Ernies Railway Archive, and West Halton Sidings, we have four photo’s to enjoy. The first photo’ is another view of Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0, 46409, pictured working the "RCTS/SLS North Eastern Tour 1963" through Dunnington Halt on the Derwent Valley Light Railway and heading towards Dunnington station and Selby, on the 27th September, 1963. The second photo’ is unclear, but it is an ex-GNR 4-4-0, and the number starts 43. It’s I think class D3. It is seen on Hull Botanic Gardens shed, in c1934. The third photo’ shows on Dairycoates shed, class J77, 68425, sometime in the 1950’s. Finally, we have a photo’ of 37424 (running as 37558) as it heads through Bridlington with train 2Z02, the Officers Special, formed of saloon Caroline, on the 9th September, 2021. Best regards, Rob.
  3. Good evening, David. That’s a great set of photo’s of Glasgow Central on the 2nd March, 1984. C6413, of 86103, on a Glasgow to Parkeston Quay service, The European, is a lovely portrait shot of the locomotive. The photo’s of the Southern in London are a fascinating selection. The last photo’ of Waterloo Junction, with a 4CEP on a Charing Cross to Hastings service, and a 4EPB on a Dartford to Charing Cross service, in March, 1975, is full of atmosphere. I wonder if the Drury Tea And Coffee Company Limited is still in existence. I guess not with all that has happened over the years. With warmest regards, Rob.
  4. Good evening, everyone. This evening we have four photo’s to see from knoxrj, Grahama5531, Mike Hutton, and Andy Mason, all on Flickr. The first one is a photo’ of what became LNER class Y8, 560, at Victoria Dock, on the 22nd June, 1920. The second photo’ shows class B16/1, 61445, at Scarborough, in the late 1950’s departing on a freight train. Next we have a photo’ of 45125, on the 1553 Scarborough to Liverpool, as it passes Seamer West, on the 23rd April, 1987. Finally, here’s a photo’ of 56062, west of the Humber Bridge as it passes alongside the River Humber with the Hull Enterprise freight train. It is undated, but may be from the early 2000’s.   5. Good evening, David. That’s a great set of photo’s of Switzerland at Herisau, in 1988 and 1990. The first photo’ of BT Tmiv 6 and Tm2/2 1, on the 1st August, 1988, is a particularly delightful shot of the locomotives, especially BT Tmiv 6. The photo’s from around Trent, in 1976 and 1986, are a superb selection. The last photo’ of 47103, on a down parcels train of three vehicles, on the 31st May, 1986, is a most excellent composition. Firstly, Mick, I don’t know what to say about that photo’, but on looking at another photo’ which I bought from the RCTS, the buildings in the background seem to be the same ones that are in that photo’. That plan indicates it is not Withernsea, so I am in a quandary about it. I will try and do more research this week, and see what might turn up. Well, this evening, we have four more photo’s to enjoy, thanks to John Turner, knoxrj, and Syd Young, all on Flickr. The first one is a view of Derby built (1960) 350hb 0-6-0DE D3944 as it shunts Shirebrook (Eastern Region) Cowans Sheldon & Co Ltd 30T Steam Breakdown Crane DE331160 with matchtruck DM770006 and Gresley support coach at Dairycoates (50B) MPD, Hull, in c1969. Nest we have a photo’ of class C7, 2212, at Scarborough, in July, 1939. The third photo’ is of 31155 stabled on Hull Botanic Gardens depot on the afternoon of 8th September, 1980. 20095 can be seen in the background. Finally, here’s a photo’ of Holbeck (Leeds) pair of Class 31 A1A-A1A diesel locomotives 31171 & 31144, as they approach Gilberdyke Junction with the Hull (Dairycoates) to Rylstone stone empties, on the 11th December, 1980.   7. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of Market Overton in 1972 to 1975 during the short preservation era. C1019, of Bass Charrington No 5, in July, 1972, with GER Saloon No. 1 and the NER saloon, is a splendid photo’, and the GER saloon makes an excellent centre of the photo’. The photo’s of Heworth in August, 1985, are a superb selection. The last photo’ of two T&W Metros is a delightful composition of the two units going about their everyday work. The first one shows Gresley LNER K3 2-6-0, 61884, running tender first at Brough, in about December, 1961. Next here’s a photo’ of class K1, 62005, at Filey Holiday Camp, running round the Whitby Moors Railtour train, on Saturday, the 6th March, 1965. The third photo’ is a view of class B16/1’s, 61415 & 61432, at Scarborough in about 1959. Finally, we have a photo’ of 55022 Royal Scots Grey, which has entertained visitors to its cab prior to leaving Hull with train, 1A18, the 12:34 Hull to King’s Cross, on the 22nd November, 1980.   9. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s from around Rotherham. J5548, at Rotherham Masborough, with a Class 08, in December, 1976, is a most excellent photo’ of a short freight working in snowy conditions. And the last photo’ of a Sheffield to Leeds service, on the 12th August, 1977, is a great shot, but the unit is a Derby Heavyweight, class 114 unit rather than the 108. The photo’s of Winning and Cambois on the Blyth and Tyne, are a superb selection. C11758, at Winning, with 56127, on the 28th March, 1989, is a delightful and well composed shot of the 56.   10. Good evening, everyone. This evening we have four more photo’s to enjoy courtesy of knoxrj, John Turner, Woolwinder, and Philip Wheldale, all on Flickr. The first one is a view of NER, Tennant,1463, departing Hull on the 13.00 Hull to Scarborough, on the 22nd June, 1920. The second photo’ shows BR Darlington built (1954) 350hp 0-6-0DE shunter, D3079, as it shunts 35T GLW oil tank wagons at a snowy King George Dock, Hull, whilst working No 99 pilot duties, in c1966. The third photo’ is of LNWR "790 Hardwicke", on the DVLR, on the 9th September, 1976, at the Dunnington terminus, to see if running such trains was a practical proposition. Lastly we have a photo’, on the 20th March, 2015, of 47847, at Gilberdyke, on train, 4D94, the 10:30 Doncaster Down Decoy to Hull CT. Best regards, Rob.
  11. Good evening, David. That’s a great selection of photo’s of Edinburgh. The last photo’ of Class 27, 5374, on a Glasgow to Edinburgh service, in August, 1973, is a splendid shot of the train. The black and white photo’s of the Midland Railway at Langely Mill and Linby, are a superb and most atmospheric set. The last photo’ of Linby, with MR 4F, 44404, on a four carriage passenger train from Mansfield to Nottingham, in May, 1952, is an excellent composition of the train by your Dad.   12. Good evening, everyone. This evening, with thanks to knoxrj, Mike Hutton, Murray Liston, and West Halton Sidings, all on Flickr, we have four more photo’s to enjoy. The first one is a view of class J21, 1612, at Withernsea, on a day in July, 1934. The second photo’ shows class B16/1, 61445, departing from Scarborough Central station in about 1960, on possibly an express to York and Leeds. The third photo’ is of, and it is entitled, on Flickr, “Joem amongst the weeds”. On the 20th July, 1979, it is seen at Dunnington running round its train to return to Layerthorpe. Lastly we have a photo’ of Freightliner class 66, 66549, as it storms past Broomfleet with a loaded coal train from Hull Docks, on the 25th March, 2014, nearly ten years ago… Best regards, Rob.
  13. Good evening, David. That’s a great selection of photo’s of the sidings and shed at Rolvenden on the Kent and East Sussex railway in 1975 and 1979. The last photo’ of Terrier, 3, in July, 1979, is a superb shot of it from the rear. The photo’s of Stafford in 1966 and Standon Bridge in 1976 are an excellent set. The first one is of class B16/2, 61475, departing from Scarborough in c1960. The second photo’ shows BR 204hp (later TOPS class 03) 0-6-0DM shunter, D2158, at Skipwith, on the Derwent Valley light Railway, on the 15th April, 1964. Thirdly we have a photo’ of class B8, 5280, at Hessle, on the 13th October, 1934. Finally, here’s a photo’ of 56062, as it waits to move forward to Hull King George Dock No 10 Quay after been uncoupled from it's rake of BYA Steel Hoods. 14th November, 2003.   15. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of Darlington from June and August, 1975. J4394, of class 55, 55005, on a down express in June, 1975, is a superb photo’ of the Deltic hauled train. The photo’s of Manningtree are a splendid selection. J4306, of a Class 37, on a Peterborough to Parkeston Quay service, in May, 1975, is a great shot. I am, however, concerned about the man who can be seen walking, with his hands in his pockets, in the four foot on the left. I hope he was authorised to be there. The last photo’ of a Class 47, on a Liverpool St to Norwich service, in April, 1978, is a most excellent photo’ of the white roofed 47. With warmest regards, Rob.

The first one is a view of B16/1, 61425, seen departing Scarborough, on an extra train in the late 1950’s. The second photo’ shows LNER class 398, 1076, at Hull Dairycoates, in c1926. Next we have a photo’ of LNER class C7, 2208, on the 18.30 Hull Dairycoates to York fast goods train sometime the 1930’s. Finally, here is a photo’ of 47847, at Ferriby, on train, 4D95, the 1500 Hull Coal Terminal (Gbrf) to Doncaster Down Decoy Gbrf, on the 20th March, 2015. Best regards, Rob.

That’s a great set of photo’s from around Sandsend of the line north from Scarborough to Middlesbrough, and also Weaverthorpe, on the Scarborough to York line in September, 1976. The last photo’ at Weaverthorpe, with a dmu on a Leeds to Scarborough extra is of interest despite the wet weather. The first three cars are an interesting hybrid set, formed of a Gloucester class 100 DMBS, then a Derby Lightweight class 108 TSL, and a Cravens class 105 DMCL is the third car. The photo’s of the London Tilbury and Sothend line at Laindon in the late 70’s are a superb selection. C3713, on the 12th March, 1978, is a well composed shot of a digger at work on removing old compacted ballast. With warmest regards, Rob.

The first one is a view of class B16/1, 61429, at Bridlington, in the mid 1950’s, on a excursion train of ex-LMS stock. Next we have a photo’ of Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0, 46409, pictured working the "RCTS/SLS North Eastern Tour 1963" through Dunnington Halt on the Derwent Valley Light Railway and heading towards Selby, on the 27th September, 1963. The tour lasted for five days. The third photo’ shows what became LNER class D23, 222, at Hull Paragon station, on the 22nd June, 1920. Finally, here is a photo’ of 47332 as it stands at Selby Street on the main line out of Hull at the head of an Engineers train on the 5th December, 1988. The route was closed for several Sundays in order to re-ballast the trackbed and replace both sets of metals. Best regards, Rob.

C11478, of Ae3/6i, 10650, on the annual Pressefahrt press trip, you have taken a well composed shot of the lovely locomotive at the head of the train. The photo’s of the Newcastle to Carlisle line at Hexham are a superb selection. C6746, of 31191, on the 9th March, 1985, is a most excellent three quarters portrait shot of the locomotive. The first photo’ is a view of what became LNER class D23, NER, 258, outside Hull Paragon Station, on the 22nd June, 1920. Next we have a photo’ of preserved class J72 0-6-0, 69023, JOEM, as it stands in the the station at Dunnington with the 14.30 passenger departure from York (Layerthorpe). This photo was taken on the 11th August, 1977. The third photo’ shows 55017, The Durham Light Infantry, as it awaits departure with train, 1A18, the 12:45 Hull to King's Cross on the 20th August, 1979. Finally, here’s a photo’ from just a few days ago of 37418 `An Comuun Gaidhealach' as it propels Inspection Saloon 975025 `Caroline' past Hull Anlaby Road Junction on the Peterborough to Hull leg of, train 2Z04, the 09:15 Peterborough to York, on the 22nd February, 2024.   21. Good evening, David. That’s a great set of photo’s of Ravenglass, with one on BR with the others of the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway. J4623, of 9, River Mite, in August, 1975, is a beautifully composed photo’ by your Dad of the locomotive on the turntable. The photo’s of Gateshead, by the Tyneside Central Freight depot, on the 1st August, 1985, are an excellent selection. C7012, of 08384, is a superb photo’ which captures the depot well, and the 08 is seen shunting three tanks and two open wagons. With warmest regards, Rob.

The first one is a view of class D20, 2017, just to the south of Bridlington station, in probably the late 1930’s. Next we have a photo’ of GNR, 1247, on the Derwent Valley Light Railway, Murton, York, in the summer of 1980. The third photo’ shows BRCW 4-car DMU (DMCL E50577 nearest camera) at Alexander Dock, Hull, pictured during the RCTS (West Riding branch) 1Z02 "Hull Docks Rail Tour", on the 10th October, 1964.   23. Good evening, David. That’s a great selection of photo’s of the Souhern Region in the 1970’s. J6540, at Portsmouth Harbour, with Class 421, 7412, on a Portsmouth to Waterloo service, and a Class 205, on a Portsmouth to Salisbury service, in July, 1979, is a well composed shot of the two units at rest. The black and white photo’s of New Basford in Nottingham, from probably about 1954, in snowy conditions, are a most atmospheric set. JMGC001, of a Class 01, on an up goods train is a superb photo’, with the locomotive in a typically dirty condition. With warmest regards, Rob.
  24. Good evening, everyone. Firstly, thank you, Mick, for posting that excellent photo’ of Cannon Street H&BRly, station, with St John Ambulance, 1908, possibly after a "Staged Accident". This evening we have four more photo’s courtesy of knoxrj, Syd Young, and Andy Hughes, all on Flickr. The first one is of that infamous crash, Hull, on the 14th February, 1927. Here is D17, 1628, after the crash, and it was withdrawn in April, 1927 and withdrawn. The next photo’ shows class B9, 6113, at Hull Paragon, in 1932. The third photo’ is a view of Hull Paragon on the 10th January, 1981. Work on the renovation of the magnificent station roof is well underway with half the structure completed. A pair of Metro-Cammell Class 101s await their respective departures whilst a bleached 03073 ticks over in the sidings. Star of the show though is Deltic 55021 ARGYLL & SUTHERLAND HIGHLANDER, providing a suitable soundtrack to the scene as it awaits departure with 1A18 12:34 Hull - King's Cross. Finally, here’s a photo’ of 20303 `Max Joule 1958 - 1999' as it heads train, 3S15, the 13:01 Hull to York Thrall Europa on the approach to Cave crossing, on the 20th October, 2018. Best regards, Rob.

C6985, of Class 47, 47622, on an Edinburgh to Newcastle service, on the 25th July, 1985, is a beautifully composed shot of the train. The second carriage is a declassified first class Mkll from FK to SK. The photo’s of Barnetby from 1977 to 2008 are a superb set. C25013, of 56094, on a westbound coal train, on the 26th July, 2000, is an excellent photo’, and the 56 is looking good in the EWS livery. With warmest regards, Rob.
