  1. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of the ex-British Steel site at Sewstern beyond the High Dyke branch during the preservation period. J3173, of Peckett, 1158, in April, 1973, with a ballast train being shunted, composed of BR wagons, being a beautiful photo’ of the tank engine at work. The black and white photo’s from around Nottingham are all gems and JVol5137, at Nottingham London Road Low Level, with class A5, 69817, on a down goods train, in c1953, is a most atmospheric and well composed photo’ by your Dad.   2. Good evening, everyone. This evening, we have four photo’s to enjoy, thanks to Mike Hutton, John Turner, Peter Brumby, Grahama5531, and Andy Mason, all on Flickr. The first one is a view of class B16/1, 61429, on what appears to be carriage stock being backed into a carriage siding just to the south of Scarborough station, in possibly the late 1950’s. The second photo’ shows a third and final view of Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 46409, pictured working the "RCTS/SLS North Eastern Tour 1963" through Dunnington Halt on the Derwent Valley Light Railway and heading towards Dunnington station and Selby, on the 27th September, 1963. Thirdly, we have a photo’ of the 10.12 Leeds - Hull, as it passes Gilberdyke Junction, formed of a typical four car hybrid formation of class 123/124 DMU cars, on the 14th February, 1981. The last photo’ is a view of 47580, County of Norfolk, on a Scarborough to Carnforth ecs, on the 8th April, 2012. Best regards, Rob.
  3. Good evening, David. That’s a great set of photo’s from Scotland. The first one at Port Glasgow, of the Gouroch branch, in July, 1974, is a most interesting photo’, and I feel a bit puzzled by what appears to be a boy helping out with the roadworks. I hope I have got that right. The photo’s from around Scout Green and Shap Wells in 1973 and 1976, are of much interest. The last photo’ at Shap Wells, with a Class 87, on an up express train, in August, 1976, is a fantastic shot, and, with the exquisite Mkll’s from Accurascale in mind, the carriages look to be Mkllc’s if those are Roevac roof vents.   4. Good evening, everyone. Firstly, thank you, Mike, for those excellent, atmospheric and enjoyable posts about signalling, your lovely layout, and the first green locomotive. You are quite right, that unnamed Patriot is hauling a mixture of ex-LMS Pll and Plll carriages. Now, this evening, from myself here are four more photo’s which are courtesy of West Halton Sidings, Andy Mason, knoxrj, and mikeyashworth, all on Flickr. The first one is quite different, and is an advertisement for Sentinel shunters: Stick to steam and save money : advert issued by Sentinel Waggon Works, 1929 - Derwent Valley Light Railway, York (Layerthorpe) station. Next we have a photo’ of class J75, 2524, at Hull Springhead, in the 1930’s. Apologies about the ‘lean’, I can only think that the photographer didn’t quite have things setup properly. The third photo’ shows Deltic, 55011, as it departs Platform 2 at Scarborough with the Saturday service to Kings Cross. No date given, but it may be 1980. Finally, this is a photo’ of the time of the first Covid lockdown, and shows one of the results of it. “An unusual working, normally the weedkiller round East Yorkshire is an MPV on its own. However on Sunday 3rd May, 2020, it was top and tailed by 66137 and 66199 - this is to allow the operator of the weedkilling equipment to sit separately from the driver and maintain social distancing.” Best regards, Rob.
  5. Good evening, David. That’s a great set of photo’s of Carlisle. C9420, of 85020, on a down empty steel train, on the 12th April, 1988, is a well composed photo’, and there appears to be a light out in what was the headcode box. The Laindon photo’s, on on the London Tilbury and Southend line, are of great interest. The last photo’ of 302243, on a Fenchurch St to Shoeburyness working, in May, 1979, is a superb shot of the train going about it’s everyday work without any fanfare. With warmest regards, Rob.
  6. Good evening, everyone. Firstly, thank you, Mick, for the excellent photo’ of a G5 hauled - despite being push and pull fitted - train for Hull at Willerby, in 1955. It is just so full of detail and atmosphere. And thank you, too, for those better photo’s of those two H&BR locomotives. This evening, courtesy of Andy Mason, knoxrj, John Turner, and Paul Ashton, all on Flickr, we have four photo’s to enjoy. The first photo’ shows NER, 2-4-0, 1268, at Bridlington in pre grouping days. Next we have a photo’ of Derby built (1960) 350hb 0-6-0DE D3944, as it shunts Shirebrook (Eastern Region) Cowans Sheldon & Co Ltd 30T Steam Breakdown Crane DE331160 with matchtruck DM770006 at Dairycoates (50B) MPD, Hull, in c1969. The third photo’ is a view of 37421, propelling coaching stock into platform 1 at Scarborough, to form a train to either Manchester or Liverpool, in the 1980’s. I’m a bit vague about the details unfortunately. Finally, here’s a present day photo’ of 66728 "Institution of Railway Operators" at Gilberdyke, on train, 6D25, the 0850 Rylstone Tilcon (Gbrf) to Hull Dairycoates Tlcn Gbrf, on Tuesday the 19th March, 2024.   7. Good evening, David. That’s a great set of photo’s of Switzerland again this at Emmenbrücke just north of Luzern, on the 3rd August, 1988. C10076, of Ee3/3, 16410, is a most delightful portrait shot of the locomotive. The photo’s at Ardwick in Manchester, from January, 1972, are a superb selection, and, as stated, show a typical day with that dull and cold weather. C0785, of Class 506, M59601, on a Manchester Piccadilly to Hadfield service, is a great photo’, and the cab front of the EMU is just so stark, adding to the gloomy conditions.   8. Good evening, everyone. Firstly, thank you, Mike, for those couple of excellent photo’s of the Avro Vulcan XH558. It’s fascinating to see those photo’s of the plane that the 37 was named after. Now this evening, we have four photo’s thanks to Andy Mason, John Law, and trainsofhull, all on Flickr. The first one is a view of H&BRwy, 2-4-0, 33, at Springhead shed in pre grouping days. The second photo’ shows a further H&BRwy locomotive, this one being a Kirtley, 0-6-0T, 4, again at Springhead shed in pre grouping days. Thirdly, we have an undated photo’ of 45140, as it passes the junction at Seamer West with a nice rake of Dogfish on the line to York. Finally, here’s a photo’ of 20205, passing under the overall roof at Beverley on train, 3S15, Bridlington to York Thrall, on the 15th October, 2018. Best regards, Rob.
  9. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of railways without trains in North Wales on the Cambrian and LNWR line to Blaenau Ffestiniog. The last photo’ at Roman Bridge, on the 23rd July, 2002, is a most enchanting, scenic view. The photo’s from trips to Scotland in 1973 and 1974, taken at Craigendoran, are a superb selection. J3333, of Class 303 043, on a Helensburgh to Airdrie service, in August, 1973, is a delightful and well composed shot of a Blue Train before the cabs were disfigured with the vandal proof replacement outer cab windows. And I want to especially thank you, Mike, for that truly outstanding post about your first visit to Dairycoates shed. The words and photo’s are quite excellent, and I have really enjoyed reading it all. So, please do make that post about your first green engine day, I cannot wait to see what happened.   11. Good evening, David, and everyone else. Firstly I want to thank you all for your support and help, and your supportive pm, David. It is very much appreciated after yesterday evening’s mixup. I still don’t know exactly what I did. I have decided to leave that errant post as a reminder so, hopefully, I will not have anymore mixups. So, with permission, I think I will post my comments to yesterday’s photo’s, and then follow them up with the comments on today’s photo’s. So, from yesterday, that’s a great selection of photo’s of the Midland at Kegworth. The first photo’ of a Class 44 on an up coal train, in January, 1970, is an excellent head on shot of the locomotive, and it can be seen that the discs only have very faint lights, not the bright lights to be found on some RTR models. The photo’s at Otterington, on the ECML, are a superb set. J494, of WD, 90011, on a down iron ore train, in May, 1966, is a most excellent photo’, and how well weathered the WD is. And now for today’s excellent photo’s, the Sittingbourne and Kemsley as preserved in 1975 and 1979 photo’s are a delightful set. C2095, Bagnall, Superb, running round, in May, 1975, is a lovely portrait shot of the locomotive. The photo’s at Kirkby Stephen on the Settle and Carlisle, in the 1990’s are a superb selection. C21772, of 142093 and 156471, on a Leeds to Carlisle service, on the 10th April, 1997, is a well composed shot of the train. It also reminds me of a story where a friend, at that time, was travelling over the line regularly, and one day an old couple asked him about the train. He strongly advised them not to travel in the Pacer, but in the 156. They did so, and enjoyed the journey. With warmest regards, Rob.

The third photo’ is a view of the Derwent Valley Light Railway, with an 03, propelling empty "Presflo" cement wagons collected from Osbaldwick. Photograph taken from Tang Hall Lane Bridge.   16. Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of Damdykes, just south of Cramlington on the ECML, in Northumberland. The last photo’ of a Class 143, on a Morpeth to Newcastle service, at 10.57, on the 9th February, 1991, is a superb shot in freezing cold and snowy conditions. That’s a lovely selection of a few extra random photos. DSC_1129, at Butterwell Junction, of 91114, Durham Cathedral, on a down express passenger train, on the 27th August, 2013, is a beautifully panned shot of the 91. The black and white photo’s at Grantham are an excellent set. JVol4141, of A1, 60130, Kestrel, on a down express passenger train, c1951, is a fantastic and well composed photo’. The first one is a view of V2 2-6-2 60876, as it charges over the crossings at Dairycoates, Hull, running light engine, on the 25th August, 1964. The second photo’ shows English-Electric "Type 3" 6731 (later TOPS Class 37 37031) in BR green livery departs King George Dock / Saltend, Hull with oil train 9T06 conveying 35T GLW tank wagons, c1969. Next we have a photo’ of a class 47 at Seamer West Junction. There is no other information.   18. Good evening, David. That’s a great set of photo’s of Zell am See in Austria in 1989 and 1991. J10187, of 1041 005, on an eastbound freight train, in September, 1989, is a well composed shot of the short freight train. The photo’s of Nottingham on the Midland are a superb selection. The first photo’ of a Class 45 on a service to Manchester, in November, 1970, is a fantastic, moody shot of the 45, along with a clock which might have been showing the right time. The last photo’ at Llanberis, with 5, Moel Siabod, is a superb portrait shot, side on, of the locomotive. The photo’s from around Radcliffe on Trent, are full of interest. The first one is a view of a two car class 110 Calder Valley unit, seen departing Scarborough, for York, in circa 1983. The second photo’ shows 31413, on the Saturday, 10.33 Hull to Scarborough service, loco hauled vice a DMU, as it approaches its destination. No date given, but might be 1980. Next we have a photo’ of Thompson Class B1 4-6-0, 61032, ‘Stembok', as it runs light through Dairycoates Yard, Hull, on the 15th July, 1964.   22. Good evening, David. That’s a great set of photo’s of Selside and Horton in Ribblesdale, on the Settle and Carlisle, in 1965-1973. J0862, at Horton in Ribblesdale, with LMS Class 5, 44824, on a down mineral train, in April, 1967, is a beautiful rear end shot of the locomotive, and some orange can be seen in the smoke coming out of the chimney. The photo’s from between Trent and Loughborough, on the Midland, at Ratcliffe on Soar, are a superb selection. The first one shows NER, E5, 1477, at Bridlington, sometime between 1912 and 1918. The second photo’ is a view of class D2, 4387, again at Bridlington, in c1933. Thirdly we have a photo’ of a Deltic, which having arrived with train 1D00, the 08:05 King's Cross to Hull, an incredibly filthy 55022, Royal Scots Grey has an energetic enthusiast for company as it runs back into Paragon station on the 28th December, 1979. Finally, here’s a photo’ of 50044 'Exeter' making a rare appearance for the class between Hull and Scarborough as it works train, 5Z84, the Beverley-Hull Dairycoates ECS of "A Beverley Christmas Carol" on the afternoon of the 18th December, 2021. The last photo’ of a Class 37 on an up pw train, in February, 1974, is a superb photo’, and the leading vehicle can be seen to be a converted Thompson SK. The photo’s of Pegswood, on the ECML, are a superb set. C6826, of 56102, on a Widdrington to Blyth power station working, on the 18th April, 1985, is a most excellent shot, and what interesting weathering on the 56. With warmest regards, Rob.

The first one shows Dairycoates allocated WD "Austerity" 2-8-0, 90272, as it approaches Brough with a Hull-bound Class H freight, on the 29th June, 1963. The next photo’ is a view of Bridlington, in possibly 1983, with a class 40, and a class 31, on an engineering train. No other details are given. The third photo’ shows a hybrid class 123/124 four car unit on the 14.33 Hull to Manchester service, as it passes Gilberdyke Junction, on the 14th February, 1981. Finally, here’s a photo’ of a 47, with a red tail light showing, 47203, as it brings train, 6D85, the 12:25 Saltend to Doncaster Belmont Speedlink through the now-demolished Melton Halt on the 11th April, 1988.
