  1. You are correct !! I was not seeing the below-bufferbeam fairing as it is freshly painted black; when dirty, it's much more apparent. CJI.
  2. Now - I am usually opposed to 'what if' liveries. However, imagine this in Electric Blue, with off-white window surrounds and cast BR emblems! (Perhaps route indicator panels, too)? If only E2001 had lasted rather longer! CJI.
  3. Mine arrived today, too - runs very nicely; extremely pleased! CJI.
  4. They'd be perfect for the Mr. Muscle oven cleaner method, too. CJI.
  5. There are similar rails at Bude - which were used for bringing sea sand off the beach, for use inland as soil improver. CJI.
  6. Are you sure about the WB of the CONFLAT B? I am sure that I built my models with Parkside 12' WB chassis and CONFLAT A bodies. CJI.
  7. If you are the above person, or know of him, please PM me. John Isherwood, Cambridge Custom Transfers.
  8. I seem to recall, way back, reading "Wonderfully simple, this DCC - just two wires needed"! 😄 (For the sensitive - only kidding)! CJI.
  9. The second grain wagon does not have an end window - it is a OHLW plaque. The fourth photo clearly shows a vertically sliding hatch cover - the top half of the slide was originally fully boarded over. As there is no apparent way of securing the hatch cover in the up position, I would suggest that it is intended for inspection purposes and not for ventilation. I suppose that it could have been used for loading long, thin items - but that seems to be a bit far-fetched to me. CJI.
  10. I'm guessing that a particularly virulent curry was on the buffet car menu! CJI.
  11. Why not attach some sandpaper to a flat block of wood with double-sided tape (carpet tape); invert the chasiss / floor on it; and sand away the floor? CJI.
  12. My two LMS CHASSIS A kits were both Cambrian Models - but I can well imagine that Adrian Swain cast them. I do know that they were d*mned fiddly to assemble - unlike ABS kits - so I suspect that the masters were not designed by Adrian. The whitemetal components were what you might expect of a Cambrian plastic kit, designed to be assembled with solvent. I suspect that whitemetal was used to get sufficient weight into the finished model. CJI.
  13. Those are definitely CONFLAT chain rings on the side; the only 12ft. WB CONFLAT that I am aware of is the CONFLAT B (BIRDS EYE AFP containers), which were converted from PIPE wagons. Whether the CONFLAT B had this configuration of chain rings I am not at present in a position to check. CJI.
  14. Having said which - I invariably use Mr. Muscle oven cleaner, in the orange aerosol can. Foul smell - gets me in the back of the throat - but sprayed into a polythene food bag containing the model; sealed; and left for 24 hours, it has yet to fail. CJI.
  15. The most economical way to obtain IPA is in 5L containers via the internet. CJI.
  16. Yep - the magnets were distinctive; they look to have been produced as a long strip and broken off like squares of chocolate! CJI.
  17. Some ex-CONFLAT L runners had their chain boxes removed, and fixed onto the wagon floor. CJI.
  18. The majority of my Mk.1 stock is detailed Tri-ang Hornby and Lima - with plain glazing. This has never bothered me - in fact, I prefer it to more recent stock that has moulded, prismatic flush glazing. CJI.
  19. The Tri-ang ones are too short; (and the L containers are undersized). CJI.
  20. Pretty sure that they are the ones used for transporting solid carbon dioxide (DRIKOLD) from ICI. CJI.
  21. So much for co-ordination with a view to avoiding customer confusion! CJI.
  22. There were, of course, two designs of CONFLAT L - one with drop-down sides like a LOWFIT and circular floor holes, the other without sides and hexagonal holes; (at least, that's the combination that I recall without checking). The circular holes were, I seem to remember, on a diagonal alignment. CJI.
  23. For those who are not aware, I can provide a sheet of transfers for the East Anglian CONFLAT shunter runners. John Isherwood, Cambridge Custom Transfers.
