Canceling pre-orders is par for the course with Hornby from my personal experience (Captain Tom and the 2MT) which is why I no longer pre-order direct from them.

It has worked to my advantage in the past, where I've got the very product I wanted from an independent retailer (my preference anyway).

This way I've saved myself between 30-50% off RRP a few months down the line!

  2. All items are still listed on the OR website.

I've just sent a message in relation to the Cowan's Sheldon 15T crane, requesting  an update. The last response  was October 2021 to say it's still in development.

I'm now really glad that a took up the 50% offer from TMC on the Bachmann SR 45T crane!

  3. Just received this update from Hornby:-

We’ve noticed that you’ve pre-ordered some Oxford Rail models. This is an oversight on our part as we no longer stock these products, so they should not have been available on the website. As a result, we will cancel your pre-order.

We are very sorry for this inconvenience.

Fortunately, we have many incredible model railway locomotives, wagons, tracks, and accessories at Hornby.com to enhance your hobby.

If you have any questions, please email us at customerservices.uk@Hornby.com.

    Thank you,

    The Hornby Team

Can hardly wait to see the EP of the Caprotti one!

Now that will be something to see.

I've got all three BR versions including the Caprotti on pre-order and might even stretch to a fourth (LMS) for my proposed Highland line layout.

It should be even better when Hornby deliver the promised shorter replacement coupling bar for the tender.Though at least one who made that promise last October is no longer with the company so I’m not holding my breath .

    Indeed Ian,

The next release 9f with the Westinghouse pump has by all accounts, the latest close coupling system and is 21 pin DCC ready, so the replacement coupling may well not happen.

I wonder if there has ever been a 4mm scale R-T-R loco more eagerly anticipated than this one and how many people will buy one, not because they 'need' a Manor for their roster or because it fits in with the prototypical theme of their model railway, but simply because the forthcoming model looks so very lovely and they just want to own one?

I must say that my resolve not to 'need' one is weakening.

I know exactly where you're coming from. I don't as a rule model the Western or GE, but I've ordered Erlestoke Manor and the lovely J69 Liverpool St Pilot!

  7. This Badgers Brewery Dorset Stout comes highly recommended. Strong hints of coffee and toffee, weighing in at 5%.

Available at most Morrisons supermarkets on their 4 for £6 offer!

    Its worse than that.

The buyer said the seller thinks hes owed £650 from the buyer and now has his address to take him to court. Seems really strange.

Submit a counter claim, which the County Court are legally obliged to furnish his details in full including an address for process service.

  9. Model Junction of Bury St Edmunds have some selective Accurascale Class 92 locos in their bargain bin for £149.95.

These include EWS, DB and Caledonian sleeper liveries.

These are not advertised on the MJ website.

As an added bonus, p+p is free If you spend over £60!

I'm not defending the guy, I'm just saying that as heists go it's a pretty pathetic one. No actual customer will be out of pocket as ebay will cover all customer non-deliveries; but I suspect that the amounts involved mean that they will go after him for any amounts that they have already paid out to him - and they are big and ugly enough to deploy resources that will disrupt his life (debt collectors; CCJs etc.).

Now if I were to decide on a life of criminal enterprise, with all the risks to my liberty and ability to to business, frankly I wouldn't mess around with model railways as there are far more lucrative categories to mine. So it's dishonest, yes, but it's also rather pathetic and that's the point I was trying to make.

What he is doing whether pathetic or not falls within the territory of the Fraud Act - Fraud by Misrepresentation.

It is entirely immaterial whether the victim is a large conglomerate or a private individual, it is still an offence Involving dishonestly.

Just like shoplifting is wrongly described as a "Victimless Crime" it isn't as the costs are passed on to the consumer. You can bet your life that this is passed on to PayPal and eBay sellers.

This doesn't really come across as an organised heist, more someone who is living in a fantasy world/out of their depth. An analysis of positive vs negative feedback suggests that low value items such as paint/glue and cushions have been delivered but new higher value items sold by auction are not achieving sufficient prices to recover costs. The latter is a daft approach because if an item is available retail at £x from multiple suppliers, the only takers at auction will bid below that price. Note this is not the same as those auctions that achieve higher-than-retail prices for obscure items that can still be bought new from small suppliers - we are talking mainstream newly released product from suppliers such as Accurascale.
It all reminds me of a certain small manufacturer who promised the earth and crashed and burned a few years back.

"This doesn't really come across as an organised heist, more someone who is living in a fantasy world"

Sorry, but his actions are plain and simple fraudulent. Advertising goods, taking the money with no intention of fulfilling the sale is dishonest however you dress it up.

According to Trading Standards Devon and Cornwall, Cann has pulled this scam on quite a few occasions.

As for the reviews on eBay, I'd be very suspicious of a trader who amassed in excess of 2800 positive reviews, when he'd only been trading for a period of 3 months.

There are some classes of items not protected by either eBay,  for a dispute resolution,  or covered under the PayPal protection scheme as I recently found out.  Basically, for these items both eBay and PayPal state that the buyer must sort out a dispute with the seller himself.  If eBay refuses to intervene then PayPal are not interested in following up the matter.

Any idea of what items are specifically excluded from the purchase protection?
