  1. Good news everyone. After returning my first model, Kernow were great and managed to select a well running example. As others have said, this is not what we expect of Heljan. I understand that prices and costs have to rise in the current financial climate, but this feels like a budget model with a premium price. What extra cost for sprung buffers? Marker lights? They were managed for the 05 and 07 models. The running of the model is smooth and wonderfully geared. Looking forward to enhancing it with DCC Sound. Still thankful to Kernow and Model Rail for making it happen. Neil.
  2. Glad to see the improvements on the second batch, can't help but feel those who wanted one on release of the first batch are being punished. It leaves us with a poor version of the model and will be difficult to sell on if we wish to upgrade to the better one. Neil.
  3. Well friends, mine is being returned as it runs like a three-legged camel. There's a serious issue with wheel alignment. The front axle which is the driven one, is hard over to one side, so the rest of the chassis tries to correct resulting in a very uneven run and a very pronounced waddle in both directions. I'll contact Kernow later for a replacement. I'll attach video footage for illustration. Neil.
  4. I might have missed the exact details from earlier batches, but has anyone noticed that the body tooling of the early Class 31 (Class 30 with Mirrlees engines) have actually been done correctly with different exhaust ports and no grill on the engine door. Has this been the case before? If not then it's a point to Hornby! Neil.
  5. Yes there are gaps, where the body clips onto the chassis. I will see what I can do with it once my DCC chip arrives. Neil.
  6. Mine is listed as arriving tomorrow 😃. Gone for 654 weathered as it was once hauled up to Scotland for a short while. Anybody looked at sound options yet? Legomanbiffo is out of stock. I've listened to the Digitrains video and it sounds good, but it's talking about gears. The 165DE doesn't have gears, it's a traction motor. The mechanical 165DS will have gears, is this what they recorded? Neil.
  7. I did ask Phil about unlocking the Fell thread as there has been news about improvements being made to it by KR for the next run presumably. Where this leaves those customers who funded the initial flawed model, who knows? Hopefully the 4DD bucks the trend and it's as good as they can make it, before release! Neil.
  8. Windows are still not right. They are too sharp at the corners to my eyes. And the curve of the roof starts too soon off the straight sides. Still the same EP as before with details added? Neil.
  9. No indication yet, but given the level of development of all the different types, it's a no brainer to offer different numbers and liveries. A matter of when, not if surely. Neil.
  10. I quite liked the idea of having the potential to have a full rake, even if inaccurate. To see what could of been. Also getting a full train meant flexibility to model any combination, as now armed with exact formations and numbers, I can model the specific set that made it closest to where I live (a special run in the Glasgow area). Neil.
  11. Hi all, A tale to tell that started with a Christmas present for my Dad from me of a Kernow D600 Warship. One of the latest batch, which is significant, as they have used a coreless motor. After receiving his present he decided that the sound chip he likes the best is Roads and Rails. Chip arrived and fitted but running is now poor with a stuttering start and low top speed. The model was sent to R&R to see what he could do, it came back with more speed but still a stuttering start. Model Rail Scotland last month we decided to ask @charliepetty if he could find a fix. He was doubtful, explaining coreless motors are terrible for controlling. Without any further possibilities and having built up my knowledge of the Loksound V5 I decided that reducing the frequency of the PWM and picking a nominal value for the EMF feedback value might produce a better running model. It worked. So along with other CV values learned from other setups here are CV values that work for the loco in question: CV2-1 CV3-60 CV4-60 CV5-205 CV9-15 CV49-17 CV51-10 CV52-0 CV53-100 CV54-28 CV55-240 CV56-30 Hope this helps anyone who is having similar problems with either the D600 Warship or the Loksound V5. Neil.

  13. That's an amazing coincidence, just so happens I bought a double pack them about 6 months ago. Looking forward to seeing how it looks, as anything would be better than the plastic spindle trash! Neil.
  14. I have to say the TT cabinet that Hornby have at Model Rail Scotland looks impressive. HSTs, 66s and 50s all looking like shrunken 00, such is the fidelity already. Neil.
  15. So who has the bogie footsteps correct, Bachmann or Accurascale? The ones on the Accurascale are very prominent and look out of gauge, presumably just on the pre production samples, are these correct? Neil.
  16. Yes, got my feedback in. Both positive and negative. One much longer than the other. Neil.
  17. Went with Roads and Rails. Richard's sounds are pretty good and he has some good features he likes to include. Why not Olivia's? 🤔

  19. Also on GT3 the front handrails did not line up with the holes in the bufferbeam so that it was squint, and the front bogie casting was wrong. They promised a replacement bogie and bufferbeam and what we got was a bogie with a sticker on it saying "bofferbeam". The lack of quality in the documentation is also a basic requirement and an easy fix, it doesn't even seem to get spell checked. Lots of little things point to a lack of professional quality control. Neil.
  20. Another howler for KR. It's wrong and they won't admit it, there's a surprise. Neil.
  21. I'm wondering if the Accurascale team have been able to source a decent recording of the quite different unrefurbished sounds of the class, as from what I've heard from archive footage they were very "Hoovery" to begin with. Good luck guys. Neil.
  22. At the end of the day, I wasn't expecting to have to do so much modelling to get an accurate and runnable model, considering the price we all paid in advance. On the other hand, I probably would never have got round to making a kit version of the Fell and most definitely wouldn't of had two versions between me and my Dad's. His came back from repair last week after a month and a half and its cranks were bent. Also once the sound was on, the speaker was buzzing like it was loose. We are done with KR. Neil.
  23. Hi, loving my LNER set of 4. Did anyone have an alignment problem with the centre axle's travel being fouled by the steps so that full lateral travel wasn't happening? And adjustment of the steps eventually got things running better. Neil.
  24. Hi John, really interested in following your build of Whiteinch. Being within a couple of miles of the real location (Clydebank), if you need any local knowledge, history, then I can help. One fascinating thing for me was that there was a through line that continued past the terminus station and onto the local road system, tramway style to reach the industry by the river. I have seen some cracking pictures of Caley pugs and later 06s dodging traffic on the roads. Good luck with the build. Neil.
