  1. That would be ideal but I’ll see what can be done with the original before reaching out to Dapol, just need the loco to reach Australia first
  2. If the smokebox door can be removed off the model it should be an easy enough job to fill the holes left by the number plate bracket and spray it all black
  3. Looks like I’ll have to remove them off my 1432 when it arrives, I’d never noticed the number plate until last night!
  4. Are BR style numberplates on the smokebox door accurate for a GWR liveried loco?
  5. From Dapol’s Facebook page: Going to have hours of fun photographing this little lot tomorrow. 14xx/48xx and 58xx models are on their way and expected to be going out to stockists at the end of February.
  6. I’m very much looking forward to my set (Triang one) arriving down under. In the meantime I reckon the original deserves a run!
  7. Not everything has to be for the UK market you know
  8. Another update from Dapol in regards to the 14xx.
  9. Funny you mention Wizard models Craig, I’ve got most of the parts from them (minus the detail kit) to do up a Hornby model.
  10. G'day all, I recently bought one of the OO gauge Lion prints and I must say I'm well impressed with it! My example when finished will be of Lion in its 'proper' finish (aka not Titfield). There is still plenty of cleaning of the models left to do but that's nothing that a good evening sat at the desk couldn't take care of! Now I just need those pesky damned 08 couplings rods! Anyone got a spare set? Regards, Aaron
  11. G'day all, Another post by me regarding these locos, I had my 32655 running at my local model club for a couple of hours yesterday and I'm happy to report it ran faultlessly the entire time it was out. Smooth, quiet and hauling 2 Hornby MK1s with a Mainline BSK hanging off the rear with ease. This layout has some pretty steep inclines working out at 1:40 - 1:50 on average so I was very impressed! Performance like this makes me want to get another. Well done to Hornby.
  12. G'day all, Dapol have made a post to their Facebook page regarding artwork for the O gauge 14/48/58xx. It can be found here:
  13. G'day all, I forgot to mention it in my original post but I did cut down the over length handrail over the smokebox door. If you look at the photos shown on the Hattons website it'll show what length it originally was. I just used a decent pair of cutters then ran some thinned semi gloss paint over the handrail to cover the exposed metallic ends.
  14. G'day all, The first of my two pre-ordered Terriers arrived the other day in sunny Australia after a very quick 5 day trip from the Hattons. I must say they do look to be a fantastic model given the price point, level of detail present, running qualities and paint finish. Not perfect as I'm sure some will agree but certainly they look the part and for me personally I'm very happy with the product Hornby has turned out for us. It certainly makes for an nteresting contrast to a typical Australian model of a NSW HO scale steam loco in which one with the same amount of detail can cost hundreds of $$$ more! Anywho, off to play trains so that I can afford these models!
  15. Finally, I topic I can really get behind! I love collecting brass models. I model the NSWGR and have been collection brass locos for the past 2 years now, building up a fleet of 11 steam locos and 2 diesels with more to come. Many of the locos made available for the Australian market were produced in the 1980s chiefly by Samhongsa. Ive included some photos of a few locos I own, mainly the C38s although a Z13 and 17 have suck in.
  16. G'day all, Just an update on my Stirling single, it arrived as estimated on the 29th and wow! What a stunner! Hats off to Rapido and Locomotition for delivering us such a wonderful model. Truly a masterpiece. Special mention to the staff at Locomotition, everything involved with the transaction was seamless, great service was provided and I'd be more than happy to order more models in the future. Regards, Aaron
  17. G'day all, It seems as though some members here have had issues in dealing with Locomotion Models in regards to their orders of Stirling single models. With this in mind I'd like to share my experiences. I purchased one of the models on January 23rd at 1:20am AEST (what else are you supposed to do at that time of day!) and duly received the order confirmation emails plus a copy of the receipt for the payment made. The next day (24/1/19) at 1:44am I received email notification that my model had been posted in the form of tracking information from UPS which showed that the model had been posted on the day I ordered it. Fast forward to today (27/1/19) I can see that the model as of this morning is in Australia at my local post office and is expected to be delivered on the 29th (tomorrow is a public holiday (Australia Day). That's just 4 days to have a model from the UK posted and arrived in Australia. I can't even get local parcels from this country delivered that fast! To me the service shown has been simply phenomenal and I hope that I'll be able to report good news of the models safe arrival in coming days! Regards, Aaron
  18. G'day all, Wow! Go offline for a while (life and workplace incidents) and come back to a wealth of information! In the time since I've started the thread my chosen Castle has arrived (5011 Tintagel Castle (I'm searching for a Caerphilly body to replace it)) with much of the work beginning in earnest. New name and number plates were ordered from Fox Transfers and placed over the originals. A cast brass Stones type headlight has been affixed to the smokebox door and the frames painted Indian red. The shunters pole and step have been added since the two attached photos were taken. The Hammersley Iron decals have been drawn up and sent to Fox in the hopes they'll be able to do a small run of them. When finished my loco will be much the same condition as the attached photo. The FS cars will be relatively easy to do as they'll just be straight repaints of RTR models available nowadays and the gin will need further research into its origins to see if I can do a kit bash or if I'll have to resort to scratchbuilding it. Regards, Aaron
  19. G'day all, I'm looking to convert one of the newer Hornby Castles into Pendennis Castle as she was when in Australia between 1977 - 2000. I was wondering which of the newer tooling Castles would be best to use, obviously it would have to be a GWR liveried one, that much I know! Thanks all and much appreciated.
  20. G'day all from down under, A few days ago I took delivery of a pair of the 14xx locos, 1420 in GWR and 1450 in late BR green being the new arrivals. This pair compliment the early lined black 1470 which was purchased last year. I've been lucky in that my locos so far run quite well, although they do have the sloppy rods which have been discussed earlier. One major issue I've found on 1450 however is the top of the cab being warped near the roof gutter rail. Has anyone found this to be a problem on their locos? In the next few weeks I'll be placing an order for replacement Comet chassis kits and associated wheels and gearbox for all 3 locos. Whilst they run ok at the moment I am concerned about the longevity of them.
  21. 2535 as the number indicates is a member of the Z25 class of locomotives. The Z24s, of which 2408, 2413, 2414 and 2423 were Bunnerong power station locomotives, were delivered after the Z25s to augment a lack of motive power at the time. Of these locomotives, 2408, 2413 and 2414 survive, as well as 2535. 2535 was sold from the government railways to Australian Iron & Steel (AIS). After it was retired, it was plinthed at the company's visitor information centre at Coniston where it wore a lined green livery. Of interest is the buckling present in the running boards, which resulted from poor chain placement when the locomotive was lifted into position on its plinth. This locomotive now resides at Dorrigo. 2408 and 2414 also survive in the collection of the Dorrigo Steam Railway & Museum, with these locomotives being ex Bunnerong No.7 and 5 respectively. 2413, ex Bunnerong 6 is stored at Junee roundhouse on static display. 2423 has been scrapped. Hope this helps Regards
  22. Did you manage to talk to him about 3112? She is a VERY depressing site, considering that the owner is such a train fan... Also, how often do you frequent the RTM? If you're on restoration and maintence I should be looking forward to working with you on the ABV or such similar projects.
  23. As some of us might know this long weekend was the running of what could potentially be the last Newcastle Flyer. Gallantly hauled by 3642 from Central to Newcastle, the up Flyer was a great experience, with that trip being my very first Flyer on what could prove to be the very last. Sadly I didn't get any photos worth mentioning (iphone photos!) but our loco and carriages all looked and performed beautifully!
