Sorry to move off topic, but anyone know what wagon type that is? Not one I'm familiar with.

In later years the crossover was used for stock transfers from Drayton park to Neasden, top and tailed by battery locos throughout.

East West rail, Bletchley to oxford line
simon b replied to porkie's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
About time they finished the EWR embankment, it's sat half done for a long time. I note the road through the area is closed again so perhaps they are taking out the old road bridge at the same time to finish the job? -
Although I do like Minories it always looked a little off to me, I think it was that the retaining wall just overpowers everything else. A little lower, with a variety of low relief buildings on top would make a big visual change. Just my thoughts.

Is this model station and track configuration remotely realistic?
simon b replied to n9's topic in UK Prototype Questions
Princes Risborough comes to mind as a prototype for that in it's rationalized period, late 60's to late 90's. It also had 3 branch line routes in different directions. -
Is this layout still around? Would love to see some more pics.

I'm sure there's an obvious reason, but curious as to why test working is needed at all? The class were comonplace on the route in Silverlink days, so surely all the necessary testing has already been done? -
An interesting what if would be Newhaven Marine station. It was closed to passengers in 2006 but parliamentary trains still called there as late as 2019, there was an busy aggregates terminal located beyond the platforms.

Baseboard acoustics
simon b replied to Bluemonkey presents....'s topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
It doesn't matter what you lay your track on if your going to ballast it, as soon as you glue the ballast down it will transfer the noise to the board. Depending on the design of your boards, the way I do it is lay the track directly on the baseboard with no cork or foam. Then once wiring is complete glue 75mm high density furniture foam to the underside of the board Leaving no gaps anywhere. That kills any drumming noises. -
The split level looks good with the lower area at the front, but I'm not keen on the higher height of loading dock vs the other platforms. May I suggest taking out the underlay from the carriage siding to sink that track a little? Then your end loading dock would be at the correct height, you could also extend it alongside the track a few van lengths for side loading if desired.

Buckle up kids, cos here we go...... The 6x3 brick window section comes as part of the plant no4 kit, although sold as a low relief building you get quite alot in the kit. You get the gable end section,a pair of 1x3 brick window sections, and the large 6x3 brick window section. To make the gable end more UK looking I have cut out the center windows of the upper floors and made wooden loading doors on all three floors, as well as a hoist above the top window. That makes it look more like a plastic version of the metcalfe kit. One thing to note is that the plant no4 kit is actually a low relief version of the Greatland Sugar Refining kit (933-3092), if you wanted a larger building with two gable ends and two 6x3 walls. Another kit worth a mention is Chapion meat packing (933-3048), which when stretched out can make a building over 24" long. You can see the sizes of of some of these parts in this picture below, the plant no4 is on the right and the pair of large 2x8 panels in the middle are from the champion packing kit. On the left is the 6x3 wall you are interested in. The concrete flour mill kit can be had in low relief as "Centennial Mills" (933-3160), or the full building as "Red wing milling co" (933-3026) I made a huge corner filler with it, and still had parts left over. If you want to shunt vans underneath a warehouse there is also "Heritage furniture" (933-3164) low relief kit. And one more pic of the champion kit in use as a warehouse. -

Getting some buildings on the layout is a big step forward, now you can really start to visualize how things will look. Depending on how you want the main grain warehouse to look, might I suggest the Walthers flour mill kit? It's a concrete framed building rather than brick, but the kit is adaptable in many ways and can create a monster building when stretched out. Although designed for US layouts it fits in on a UK based layout very well, take a look at Millway dock on here for ideas. Another suggestion would be the plant no4, I've used that a few times... -

I remember following the progress on SE mk1, had the makings of a fabulously grotty urban terminus. The design of the throat pointwork being a great space saver.

Thank you for those pictures, you have captured the atmosphere of the period perfectly. The shot of the class 24 being particularly good, looks just like the real thing.

Are there any more pics of Templefield in your collection? Would love to see some from the 1970's.
