  1. Although already out else where on the web I will be posting details and further information about the Hornby 2012 Southern related releases, including pictures of the pre-production samples as well as some Hornby supplied images on my blog on Tuesday morning (to, unlike some blogs and forums, respect Hornby's intended release date) at www.grahammuz.com
  2. It would as you say appear that they are not currently listed on the site, It may well be worth dropping Chris Knowls-Thomas their Sales Manager an email.
  3. Two of the more unusual items of rolling stock built by the Southern Railway were the cinema coach and also the 100 inspection Saloon. Marc Models have now produced kits of, or will supply Ready to Run, these unique prototypes. These models of both coaches and generator vans are in etched brass and have the correct style bogies. A resin cast generator is fitted into the vans that can be viewed through the van windows. This is an extract of the latest entry on my modelling blog click here to read the full entry Some of this has already been covered else where within my posts here on RMweb but this is an update on my main offsite blog, so I make no apologies for a little duplication. My full model railway and meanderings blog can be read at www.grahammuz.com
  4. Hi Dave I will follow this build with much interest as I have the same kit awaiting to be built, so that I can pension off my current Millholme white metal version. I am afraid I agree with Michael that the bunker itself was not tapered at all, the footplate tapered at botht the front and rear of the loco. the widest point of the footplate just infront of the cab doors and tapered to almost meet the bunker side at the buffer beam. I deduce this from both studying photographs and also the Ian Beattie drawings (which do show a plan as well as the rear elevation.)
  5. The imposing long building beyond the turntable at Fisherton Sarum is a representation of the water tower, dormitory and stores building at Salisbury. It dominates the turntable end of the layout and although over 2 foot long is actually a good 6 inches under scale length. The water tank at Salisbury held 110,000 gallons and fed both the shed and the station water cranes totaling 12 in all, with eight in the station and four in the shed yard. The water pressure at Salisbury was maintained unusually high to allow for double headed engines at the station to be watered at once. This meant that crews had to be somewhat cautious when using the cranes or risk getting very wet! 6. A little while ago now Bachmann announced that it was adding Southern Railway 25t Pill Box style brake van to its range. These brake vans were seen all oaver the Southern network and currently the only 4mm model available is the Cambrian models kit. Bachmann have now released the first image of an engineering sample for the brake van. Further information and links can be found on my blog here and it its own thread here on RMweb
  7. OP now updated with link to the thread on the Bachmann 25t Pill Box brake van.
  8. A link to the Bachmann engineering sample image and other information links about the 25t Pill Box Brake Van can be found on my blog here
  9. Hi Mark Yes I agree an specific Southern related Third rail thread is a good idea, and I would certainly welcome you starting one here within the Southern Railway Group. Perhaps a cut and paste of some of the useful information discussed in your own mentiond thread would be a starting point. Russ's excellent reference site is already listed in the Southern / BR(s) Miscellaneous links page on here but as you say a thread to capture further discussion would be of benefit.
  10. When first introduced 21C101 to 21C163 had the original Bulleid style cab with narrow front lookout and two large side windows, the rear one of which slid forwards behind the front. Complaints were made due to a restricted forward view, not helped by the position, inside the cab, of the vacuum ejector controls, in front of the window on the driver’s side. Therefore starting in July 1947 the cabs were modified, with a wedge shaped front (sometimes referred to a ‘V’ shaped) giving a larger front window area. This resulted in a slightly smaller side window area which was then fitted with three windows the rear two of which slide behind the front to give in effect the same open window area as the original style cab. To suit my own modelling period on Fisherton Sarum of 1946 to 1949 I have therefore modified a number of my Hornby Bulleid Light Pacifics to the original style cabs. 11. As well as Pete's reference above the images of set 373 in BR (s) green that I posted along with the full details of this release on page one of this thread should provide proof what ever the scale of that set being in BR(s) green! For the record the pictures were taken on the 2nd May 1959 the date of the R.C.T.S. (London Branch) The Brunel Centenarian & Plymouth District Rail Tour.
  12. JohnR I am not sure if you are referring to wanting two sets or two coaches as they are only being sold in sets comprising of both coaches for the price quoted. I hope this clarifies.
  13. Kernow Models have asked me to make it clear that Model Rail have not broken any embargo, these models were due to be announced at Warley but Kernow Models held it for two weeks to allow them chance to clear the many orders for the extremely large batch of deliveries that were received in the week prior to Warley. They thought they would be OK with this but the subscriber copies landed earlier than expected. Points on colour duly noted and I concurr with the preferred match to the Hornby Maunsell shade of BR(s) shade of green, I have also updated my press release post above to confirm that item K1001 previously quoted as Set 372 has been amended to Set 363 to refect the fact that the Set 372 was following it being disbanded in 1929, reformed as Set 363 in 1933 and at that time fitted with the standard SR air control. Also the descriptions on the Kernow website have been updated to reflect the downgrading of the Brake Composite Driving cars to all Thirds and being renumbered post 1939. The error slipped on to the web as I was not able to check these descriptions prior to the web pages going live when the release was made public.
  14. John They will be the 1914 built 56 footers Diagram 14 and 414 versions with the wrought iron style gates.
  15. I am happy to post with the permission of Kernow Models the following announcement, from them: [/left] We are pleased to announce that we have commissioned Dapol to produce the much-requested LSWR Push-Pull Gate Set in OO Gauge. This will be produced from tools owned by Kernow Model Rail Centre and will be to the same high standard as the Beattie Well Tank and forthcoming Adams O2 Models. We will be working closely with Graham Muspratt and Mike King to ensure the models are as accurate as possible. The full release, as this an extract, can be seen on RMweb here or on my own external blog here The sharp eyed amongst you will notice my name in the release as I have been assisting Kernow Models for a while now with their Southern Railway related commissions and have been researching and obtaining the relevant LSWR original drawings for this stock that was originally built in 1914 which have now been obtained and from which the CAD drawings for the model will be created. See more on www.grahammuz.com

  17. Mike and Chris, Was good to see you both on Satuday and glad that you had a warm welcome and a good time. I look forward to seeing you both again soon.
  18. Thanks Andy I, having been involved with this project, will be in a position to post the full press release later in the week to coincide with the Kernow Newsletter and the ordering process being up and running.
  19. Regular readers to my blog will have often noticed me refer to the High Wycombe and District Model Railway Society, This year sees its 40th Anniversary and to that end we held an open day for members, family and a few friends at our clubrooms yesterday. I have been a member of the society since the age of 15 now some 27 years ago and during that time have been exhibition manager (Wycrail) and also chairman. During this time membership has steadily increased from fewer than 20 to now over 60 ranging in ages from 8 to 80 (although I must confess that for nearly 15 years I was the youngest member!). We are now fortunate to have 4500 sq feet of clubrooms housing our growing number of layouts, 12 at the last count and still growing, of various scales and genres ranging from to N to 0 including both British and North American outline. At this weekends open day we had more layouts running, as well as a couple of guest layouts, including my own Fisherton Sarum, than can be seen at many exhibitions! The clubrooms also include a ‘Bistro’…ok kitchen / refreshment seating area, a large multi gauge test track and workshop with a multitude of machine tools. 20. I dont know if they did Steve but I believe they will be reviewed in at least one of the magazines soon.
  21. With a nod to David Frost et al for the title…although I am not really that old… honest… As regular readers of my blog will know last weekend was the last of three exhibitions in three weekends, and was the third year in a row that I have exhibited with a layout at the Warley National Model Railway Show. This time it was turn of the Layout Ashland which was built by myself, Richard Proudman and Hornby Magazine Editor Mike Wild as a challenge, which we duly completed, to build a layout in a weekend at the Hornby Magazine Live show in Hartlepool last July. Ashland formed part of the Ian Allen / Hornby Magazine stand at the show and is based on the North Cornwall Line, the track plan being a mix of Ashwater and Dunsland Cross. We ran my own Southern 1946 to 1948 era stock on the Saturday and moved forward 10 years or so on the Sunday with Mike’s own BR Southern Region stock being used. Along with a couple of Bulleid light pacific’s, M7’s; an O2, N, N1 and a T9, my recently re-liveried Beattie Well Tank also put in a sterling performance hauling a mix of suitable stock. 22. I am now two thirds of the way through my three exhibitions in three, back to back, weekends marathon. The second of the three shows last weekend was the Spalding show assisting Mike Wild and the Hornby Magazine team operate his layout Bolsover and Seven Pit Lane. The Spalding show is a large provincial show and is certainly one of the best in the East of England. This year in particular saw an extremely high standard of layouts on show including the likes of Stoke Summit, Hassell Harbour Bridge, Penhallick and the extremely impressive Gresley Beat. This line up is good on its own before you add the entire Aisle of layouts that formed the Hornby Magazine showcase of layouts that have featured in the magazine including Treneglos, Romley Midland and New Haden Colliery. With another of Mike’s layouts Hettle having to be a last minute stand in it meant out team of operators were a little stretched. Bolsover and Seven Pit Lane is DCC controlled using the Hornby Railmaster system which I believe is a first for an exhibition layout, and included the beta testing of a hand held device version of the software. 23. The message for today goes without saying… They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them. Pictured on my main blog is my model of N15x class number 2333 Remembrance, originally introduced by the London Brighton and South Coast Railway, designed by Billinton, as an L class 4-6-4 tank. Then number 333 was named Remembrance and became the companies War Memorial engine. 24. Following hot on the heals of last weekends excellent and successful Wycrail exhibition hosted by my own local high Wycombe and District Model Railway Society for the next two weekends I will be assisting Mike Wild of Hornby Magazine operating layouts at firstly this coming weekend the Spalding show with Bolsover and Seven Pit Lane and the following weekend at Warley with Ashland.
