  1. In light of this weeks annoucements by Bachmann please find below an extract of a summary on my blog here of the SR content ’00 gauge’ SR Luggage / Parcels Vans PLV/PMV & Van U / CCT. Bachmann have listed these as being: 39-525 Southern PLV Passenger Luggage Van Southern Railway Green 39-526 Ex-Southern PMV Parcels & Miscellaneous Van BR Crimson 39-527 Ex-Southern PMV Parcels & Miscellaneous Van BR Green 39-528 Ex-Southern CCT Covered Carriage Truck BR Blue – Weathered As the PLV/PMV differs from the Van U/CCT (which has end opening doors) I have sought clarification from Bachmann that they do in fact intend to produce two different body mouldings and I will advise their reply in due course. ‘N gauge’ Original Style Bulleid Merchant Navy Pacific’s Those announced to be release are from the are of the Thrid Series that were paired with 6000 gallon tenders and different body shapes to the Second and first series. The ten in this series were built after nationalisation in 1948/9 so whilst they originally appeared in Malachite they never carried ‘Southern’ lettering. The Initial versions are: 372-310 No 35024 ‘East Asiatic Company’ in BR blue with early emblem 372-311 No. 35023 ‘Holland-Afrika Line’ in BR green with early emblem 372-312 No. 35028 ‘Clan Line’ in BR green with late crest. ‘N gauge’ Bulleid Coaches Four types will become available over the next 18 months including the Brake Corridor Second (sic. aka Semi Open Brake Second), Second Corridor, Open Second and Composite Corridor versions. They will all the deep 15″ vent versions built post 1948. It has been advised that these will be produced from new research and not simply a scaled down version of the now quite old 4mm tooling The initial versions will be: 374-430 63′ Second Brake Corridor Open – Green & 374-431 in Crimson & Cream, 374-440 63′ Second Corridor – Green & 374-441 in Crimson & Cream, 374-450 63′ Second Open – Green & 374-451 in Crimson & Cream, 374-460 63′ Composite corridor – Green & 374-461 in Crimson & Cream.
  2. Hi Rick As far as I am aware no Bulled loco hauled coaching stock made it inot Blue and grey. The only Maunsell stock to do so was the mail sorting and stowage vans.
  3. High Wcombe and District Model Railway Society present Wycrail 12 on Saturday 3rd November 2012 The Cressex Community School, Holmers Lane, High Wycombe, Bucks HP12 4UD 10:00 till 17:00 For more details see main RMweb thread about the show here or the Societies website here
  4. about to hit the airport for flight to Glasgow for Model Rail Scotland

  5. Welcome Old-Sparky I look forward to a future thread about your layout.
  6. There are just two days to go until the doors open to the public at the British Railway Modelling magazine Festival of British Railway Modelling at Doncaster Racecourse and the appearance at the show of Fisherton Sarum. As well as keeping an eye on the Met office website forecast for the next 24 to 48 hours, due to possible snow falling across the Midlands and my route from home to Doncaster, I have been preparing Fisherton Sarum for the trip north. As with most layouts being exhibited some method of protection for transportation is required and this is not normally seen by the general public at shows. Although when set up the Fisherton Sarum is 20 foot long it was designed from the outset in such away that everything included the stock boxes (converted stout DJ cases for carrying up to 120 CDs) containing over 80 locomotives and some 20 coaches along with numerous wagons, will all fit in a Mondeo estate car! My two scenic boards, each 4′ x 3′ are bolted together by wooden end frames to form a box just small enough to fit through though the tailgate of the car. The layouts legs are botled to the inside of baseboards ’L’ girders and therefore fold up inside the baseboards out of the way. The whole box arrangement sits on a set of wheels for easy transportation from the car into and around the exhibition venue. As I use cassettes in the fiddle yards these boards are flat topped ‘paste table’ style and the legs fold up held in place by clips and then these slide alongside the scenic board ‘box’ in the rear of the car. Other items such as the end backscene pieces, lighting rig support struts and the control panel (whose width was designed specifically to do so) tuck between the ‘L’ girders of the upturned scenic board. This is an extract of my blog at www.grahammuz.com click here to read the full entry.
  7. Fisherton Sarum is currently only making two appearances on the exhibition circuit this year and the first of which is this coming weekend 11th and 12th February at the British Railway Modelling magazine Festival of British Railway Modelling at Doncaster Racecourse. With over 30 layouts ranging from N to O gauges, many of which ( including Fisherton Sarum, see February 2012 issue ), have graced the pages of British Railway Modelling Magazine and over 80 trade stands there should be something for everyone. A sneak preview and video of the some of the layouts attending include Fisherton Sarum can be seen on the shows website here, whilst an electronic version of the show guide can be viewed here I shall be ably assisted by my Mum and Dad (who actually appears in model from in his short trouser days on the layout), and Roger, Mark and Daniel from the High Wycombe District Model Railway Society to whom I am very grateful and would not be able to exhibit Fisherton Sarum otherwise. This is an extract from my blog atwww.grahammuz.comthe full version of which can be found here
  8. Thanks for the additonal item of Southen / BR(s) news, I have arranged for your post to be moved into this thread from the thread that highlights links to discussion on RMweb of Southern / BR(s) content that is here I am also happy to add that the Kernow/Bachmann LSWR Brick Built signal box being discussed here is now being shipped from Kernow, Please keep any relevent news items flowing its very helptful to see them posted, so thank you.
  9. Ideally I was keeping this thread for links to other threads on the forum discussing SR/BR(s) related content, so I have arranged for the last couple of posts to be moved across to the Southern / BR(s) product news thread here I have also updated the OP to include a link to the Kernow / Bachmann Scenecraft LSWR Brick Signal Box.
  10. A busy few weeks ahead beckons on the exhibition front, with the main highlight for me being the appearance of Fisherton Sarum at the BRM Festival of British Railway Modelling at Doncaster Racecourse, in 12 days time (11/12thFebruary). If that event wasn’t enough I shall be operating three other layouts at three other shows between now and the first weekend in March! This coming weekend (3rd/4thFebruary) sees the Hornby Magazine layout Berrybridge making an appearance at the Stafford Railway Circle show , and I shall be assisting Editor Mike Wild for the weekend. Hornby Magazine are also the sponsors of Model Rail Scotland at the Glasgow SECC , and their layout St. Stephen’s Road is being exhibited for the three days of the show between Friday 24 and Sunday 26th February. This will be my first time operating St. Stephen’s Road, based somewhere in the South West, and I am negotiating operating the Southern Region branch line end of the layout rather than that of the other region! And finally…, for the time being, the High Wycombe and District MRS are exhibiting two of the Societies layouts;Hinton Parva (00 gauge) and Blandford St Mary (0 gauge); at the Abingdon Model Railway Club’s AbRail Exhibition on Saturday 3rd March and I shall be behind the controls of Hinton Parva for most of the day. T his is an extract from my blog at www.grahammuz.com the full version of which can be found here

I see what you mean Muz, I ask questions to try and help a poster and another wades in with size 11s

  13. Tim, as per the opening line of my OP "feel free to let me know of any to add to the list" I have duly added Dave's blog to the list. I am not sure of the reason behind your additonal comment, which could be perceived as barbed, about "or is it only certain links worthy of attention"? I will add further SR/BR(s) links as and when they are suggested.
  14. Kernow Model Rail Centre has today announced a new version of the Beattie Well Tank as 3314 in Bulleid Sunshine style livery. Further information and discussion can be found on the RMweb thread here with additonal information and further images on my blog here
  15. Hi Jon Yes it is quite small, the scenic section is only 8' x 3' and you are not the first whom has seen either an article about or pictures and been quite surprised when they either see it in context or in the flesh at a show to say the same thing.
  16. Regular readers will by now know that I can often be found behind one of the many layouts built and exhibited by Mike Wild, Editor of Hornby Magazine as part of their stand at shows. This weekend sees Bolsover and Seven Pit lane making an appearance, along with 22 other layouts, at the Leamington and Warwick Model Railway Society’s 37th annual exhibition, being held at the Stoneleigh Park Exhibition Centre nr. Warwick. I will therefore be playing with mainly Eastern Region stock rather than my usual Southern bias (not to mention the black art that is DCC!) but I am sure I will cope. This is an extract of the latest entry on my modelling blog click here to read the full entry My full model railway and meanderings blog can be read at www.grahammuz.com [/url]<a name="cke_range_marker">
  17. The February issue of British Railway Modelling magazine has today hit the shelves (subscriber copies should have landed on doormats by now too) and features an article about Fisherton Sarum. The article discusses designing and building a layout taking inspiration from an actual location rather than being an exact scale model of a location or being totally fictitious, just as I have done using Salisbury as the inspiration for Fisherton Sarum. The article coincides with Fisherton Sarum making an appearance at the Festival of British Railway Modelling exhibition at Doncaster 11/12th February 2012 a show organised by Warners Ltd., the publishers of British Railway Modelling Magazine. I hope you get a chance to enjoy the article, I welcome and feedback so please let me know what you think. If you are able to get to the Doncaster show in February please come by and say and say hello, Fisherton Sarum will be stand 11. I will be ably assisted by my Mum and Dad (dad of course is featured on my layout in his younger days trying to bunk the shed, just as he did at Salisbury),along with Roger, Mark and Daniel from the High Wycombe and District MRS. Further information can be found on my main blog at www.grahammuz.com
  18. Ken, thanks for the update on Cambrian it's much appreciated. Follwing on from my post about the Hornby 2012 annoucements, I have added a further post to my blog here to confirm a couple of things and a correct a few items of misinformation that has appeared both online and and in some preinted media.
  19. As Ian says this is a case of Hattons getting the description worng I can confirm that the Hornby announced new release is the Bogie B Van from completely new tooling and not either a simple re-release or retooling of the GBL Gangwayed Bogie Luggage Van. Images of the pre-production sample of the Hornby Bogie Van B can be seen on my blog here.
  20. Rod All i know at this stage is that Hornby have confirmed finally the actual details of the imminent releases namely: That the 1934 umber and cream set will consist of driving cars 3rd class numbers 88 and 89, 3rd class trailer No.86 and 1st class trailer cars Hazel and Doris. The 1967 blue and grey driving cars are S292S and S293S and the trailers are 2nd class S285S and 1st class S281S and S283S. It does leave the window open for 2013 to release the other Umber and Cream livery varient. I am assumeing that the 2Bil has been held back perhaps due the delay in the 5Bel from last year to next month and also the mixed reaction tot he 4Vep.
  21. As recently promised I have posted today on my blog, a summary of the Southern related Hornby 2012 releases along with additonal prototype information. On my blog I have included both images of the pre-production models and also some of the Hornby supplied images. My full blog post can be viewed by clicking here. The highlights are as follows: BR(s) Converted Maunsell Pull- Push Sets and Third/Second Open Twenty Pull Push sets were converted by BR(SR) from late 1959 to mid 1960 as replacements for earlier Pull Push sets of SR and pre-grouping design, such as the ex LSWR Gate Stock sets that have already been announced by Kernow Models. They consisted of an 1935 built ex-Diagram 2403 Maunsell Brake Corridor Composite and a Diagram 2023 (ex 1930 built Diagram 2005) Maunsell Second Open (was designated a Third Open until 1956) neither were styles previously produced by Hornby. The Second / Third Open type will also be released as a Diagram 2005 loose coach. SR / BR(s) Bogie Van B Following on from Hornby’s lovely four wheeled Van C released a couple of years ago, the addition of the bogie Van B is a natural and often asked for progression as currently only the Ratio kit is available. Other items In addition to the above totally new items there will be DCC Sound fitted versions of rebuilt Merchant Navy 35023 Holland-Afrika Line and rebuilt West Country 34040 Crewkerne. The Railroad range will also gain the original old style 'Schools' Class as 911 'Dover' in pre 1931 livery, but with loco drive in place of the old tender mounted Ringfield motor. New liveries include: a short frame M7 249 and narrow cab T9 708 with watercart tender both in SR Bulleid black , SR Green N15 771 'Sir Sagramore', wide splasher T9 30313 with late totem and original West Country 34001 'Exeter' with early emblem. Britannia class appears as 70004 "William Shakespeare" in full Golden Arrow regalia. Hornby have advised their intent to ensure that all are release during the calendar year, and are sufficiently advanced in the design / production process to achieve this, having resolved some of the supply chain issues experienced during 2011 (which includes the use of new factories / companies in China) and as such all are programmed to appear no later than the 3rd Quarter.
  22. To try and summarise SR GBL (Gangwayed Bogie Luggage) - BR Cor-PMV (Corridor - Parcels / Miscellaneous Van)- Produced by Triang and since by Hornby SR Van B or Bogie Van B - Kit by Ratio and during RTR 2012 Hornby SR Van C - BR BY - Kit by Parkside and RTR Hornby SR Van U (Utility Van with end doors) - BR CCT (Covered Carriage Truck) - Kit by Parkside and RTR Wrenn SR Bogie Scenery Vans (Hi arc roof bogie version of Van U also called Elephant Vans) - BR GUV - Kit I think by Jedenco SR PLV (Passenger Luggage Van) - BR PMV (Parcels / Miscellaneous Van) - Kit by Parkside
  23. Im a bit bored now of 2011. Will give one more day and then may well change it

  24. Although already out else where on the web I will be posting details and further information about the Hornby 2012 Southern related releases, including pictures of the pre-production samples as well as some Hornby supplied images on my blog on Tuesday morning (to, unlike some blogs and forums, respect Hornby's intended release date) at www.grahammuz.com
