  1. Just been train spotting and took this photo! Really amazing!!
  2. We are now past a year when a lot of clubs have had to shut their doors due to covid. Some have kept up weekly online meetings with members showing their modelling efforts to webcams. Others have given lectures and photo shows. This week marks the point where some clubs have been able to have physical meetings, governed by the rule of six and bringing their own tea and biscuits. The question is how will clubs adapt? Exhibitions are not guaranteed for this year. Modellers have been working on home projects. Some people will not return as they have drifted away from club actives. What are your thoughts for how clubs can come out of this dip with a lot of people now part of online groups?
  3. Noticed you have put the fancy grey car over two parking spaces! So real life! A quick tour of any car park will show you that the average motorist can not park dead centre in the parking bays. This is either by design (Having more room for getting out of the car) or lack of driving skills! You decide!
  4. To drive the train. It is a stage prop. If they are filming in the cab of the steam engine there will be no room for the real crew. Also at a different location it will be pushed off a bridge...!

  6. It was titled ‘A bird cage for Polly’ As it used a Triang Polly 0-4-0T as a start for the conversion.

  8. I have dug up an old layout I started many years. It is made of three 1000x 300mm boards . So in total 10' x 1' It could have a fiddle yard fitted at both ends and used as a through station or one end and the layout run as a truncated line. It has scenery on the left hand end, but bare boards on the right hand one. it is intended to use it with small diesels (class 25) for freight and 2 car DMUs (class 101). roughly set in the 1970s. It will be wired for DC operation. Any problems with the platform road being effectively a loop off the straight through main line? Also any other problems with shunting? Any comments gratefully received! 486507075_smallstationone.obj
  9. Found these Faller buildings (200 and 209) in the loft. Any ideas what to do to them to make them look ok on a British layout? What time period would they look best in? Thanks!
  10. https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/H08670/2021-03-29/detailed#allox_id=0 This might be part of the route taken to get from Tonbridge to Eastleigh. Over the years the coastline route from Hastings to Southampton has be modified for multiple unit working. Involving reversals at Eastbourne and Brighton. So no good for freight trains.
  11. Medway valley line gets another vote! 2HAP and a lot of freight! https://www.flickr.com/photos/36034969@N08/46235688821/in/photolist-QLiEKv-2drFZsD-LxxBBm-2cdoBc6-LwHHNL-LPEyw5-LXzskn-281AQDf-2h8ErTg-tnHi6E-28mH8GB-fWrQna-2he4gb6-29Vk27B-XJn8er-L3dRfP-X2mPf9-2ep5yKN-YNuHHj-JXBjTg-wAzeVt-CmAWRD-qU3w62-2jFesRV-L2VDcL-L1yVen-2k9vzfZ-j3LrJC-2jS8iFa-2jhF2eh-2jhF2dq-2j8JjmS-2iykpwW-VnymCx-WprJRH-2j8Jjny-2j8KGfa-MkAF11-AFepPX-q2As3S-2j8FFES-LkTQmx-tCmQ8Q-VYWptm-K6szeZ-LLKWFW-2djGaYo-exhT5H-MJeDwR-Xjwcj1
  12. You may have seen this already, but it can help! https://www.greenbrier-europe.com/fileadmin/user_upload/Produkte/2018_ENG_GBRX_Internet.pdf some plans and photos
  13. You will need to keep the articles you are modelling, as you can not rely on the internet. Remember that some photo sharing websites and yahoo groups got shut down. Resulting in huge amounts of data disappearing. Some has been recovered or reuploaded to other sites, but some is lost for ever.
  14. Time/money is a factor Which does come in to it. Currently I am furlough, so money is tight. But I have time! Thought I would get a class 205 Berkshire DEMU. It has the larger guard/luggage area and only 4 passenger bays. So if I got the Bachmann/Kernow thumper (£250) I would still have to modify the DMBS and then find a trailer second to make the third carriage. Instead I am making it from Bachmann mk1 suburban coaches, Class 25 gear bogie, Replica MLV cabs, mk1 under frames and a Mk1 BG. (All these are in the spares cupboard) Drawings are from the Barrowmore MRG and reference photos from the internet. What I have learnt is RTR is not always the whole picture. There are other versions of railway equipment out there that are not modelled. If I had got the RTR class 205 it would have been the same as everyone else’s. But as I have had to do research about the differences of the Thumpers (2H, 3H, 3T , etc...) I have a greater knowledge and understanding of it. Rather than spend minutes on the computer ordering it and when it arrives opening the box and just putting it on the track without knowing anything about it.
  15. I see you are moving on with SMS. When Andy sells a layout it is like a Phoenix going into a fire! He will emerge stronger and more talented than before! I think we could all learn from this and have the courage to move on old projects. The idea is each time we repeat a process, we have the opportunity to improve our skills. If we compare Andy’s first layouts to the latest ones you we see vast improvements. Maybe it is just a smoother track layout or better proportioned scenery, but it has happened. If he kept trying to modify the original, he may have given up and taken up golf! So a fresh start is something to look forward to. I will be in the front row with note book for the next performance!
  16. Since the pandemic statutes in March 2020, more and more people have started model railways. This is great for the hobby. Though It has caused a problem with supply of models. Resulting in price increases in new and second hand online sales. Where basic, older models are going for incredible sums. As a result of this are people turning to scratch building, not buying any more or just paying the increased prices? I have been going through the cupboards finding stuff I bought years ago and final constructing them! So I will only need glue and solder!
  17. Hi! Is it time for you to sell 7 mill sidings and create a new layout for the new home? You must have finished all the home improvements and are itching to have a new layout! With all your followers on Rmweb, someone would love to have an iconic layout. A lot more useful than owning the the F.A. Premier league cup or Michael Jackson’s white glove!!!!!
  18. Sad to see it in the photos! Looks like it will need a good overhaul after it has been removed from its present location. I think it is hard to fit layouts that other people have constructed in to your available space. Your layout is listed as 17’x8.5’. If you only had 16’x8’ where would you make the cuts? (Sadly I do not have room for it. Though maybe it could be squeezed into the kitchen!) Watch out you may get contacted to help sort it out!
  19. Anyone have a circuit diagram for the class 150? As I think a transistor has been shorted out, hence the permanent feed for the red lights. Not allowing the switch to white when the voltage is reversed on dc power. ( lets get it working on dc before worrying about DCC)
  20. Inspired by Clive’s multicoloured chop shop, I though why not create a 4 REP class 432? Many cuts later and I achieved this! Triang for the brake first TBF and driving motor second DMSO. The buffet is a Lima RBR which needs some windows filling/ moving. But as Triang do not make a coach with 3/4 windows, this was the easier option. Only two different liveries of coach, so I will have to try hard to source more colours for next time!
