  1. The rear roof section was cut out of the driving coach. Using this as a pattern, a similar section was cut out of the pantograph coach. The new section is fitted to the ex pantograph coach. The roof sections are refitted and the gap is filled. The next stage is renumbering and removing the first signs. Then touching up the red roof paint and a bit of weathering. (When it is a bit warming for painting) It may not be 100% accurate but it stops you having a train of pantograph and first coaches. If anyone has done any conversions, it would be great to see. Also if anyone has full roof and side plans, to check this conversion, that would be helpful.
  2. Hi! Just finished doing the coach U conversion from Wild Boar Fell’s page Now I need some additional coaches. As the separate additional coaches outside of the train packs/sets are going for silly money. I thought I could cut and shut the more easily available ones. I had obtained some spare parts from a swap meet (Remember them? Actually get to touch the models to check they were complete and then barter with a real human over the price!) with the intention of rebuilding. I wanted to create a motor second open MSO for the 11 coach train . So stripping down a pantograph and driving coach to separate items. The roof moulding on both coaches was removed by drilling out the locating studs. This was then cut to produce a full length from the two sections.
  3. Had a spare pantograph car and as coach U doesn’t look like it will be produced in OO, I thought I would give your conversion ago! I managed to cut out the pantograph well out in one go with a Stanley knife. But the chain drilling method might be easier for some people. I have yet to paint it up and change the numbers, but I think it looks passable! At least we now know there are two of these coach in existence in model form! Thanks for the instructions, I think I have proved they were not to hard to follow! Apart from The Rapido N gauge model have you found any drawings for the Pendolino? A bit too modern for the Barrowmore group books. A lot of the photos have only the driving ends and not the coaches.
  4. From platform 5 book 1994 Mk2A TSO 5265, 5275/6/8, 5290/3, 5309, 5331/5, 5350, 5373/6/8, 5381/9, 5412/9, 5420.
  5. You say they are too short. What length should they be? Also where did you cut the chassis to add the length? Cheers!
  6. Finally installed a DCC chip in a Bachmann Freightliner class 57 008 Started it 7 years ago! I Ran in to a problem that now I can not remember what it was. Lost the body mounting screws! Put it in a box on the shelf and forgot about it. Today I stripped it down to find the motor connection wires had fallen off. Soldered back on, tested it worked with the DCC chip! Then spent the next two hours assembling and taking apart, as every time a different wire or lamp would fail! Final all the wires stayed on and lights worked! I had opened another class 57 (57602) to see how it was meant to be assembled. Fitted a new chip in this one in under 5 minutes, why was the other one such a pain?!!
  7. I picked up a second hand Bachmann class 150 270 in Regional Railways livery. This is the one with the solid motor block in the powered car. Both on DC and DCC it has the red tail lights on the power car and will not switch to the white/yellow head lamps. I have swapped the dummy car with another set and that works ok, switching lights with direction. The circuit board have no visible damage. Testing with a meter on the terminals to the LED panel at the end of the main pcb show the voltage is not reversed when the track supply is reversed. Any ideas?

  9. Just found this video showing the sleepers with different writing at Plymouth Also a nice formation of the Glasgow Penzance sleeper with additional carriages being added
  10. Very nice indeed! Is the class 387 a complete 3D print or just ends stuck on to a modified class 170?
  11. Great! is the grey EMU going to be a class 377 or similar? Nice to see people doing these conversions of class 170s!
  12. There is one in the cupboard, I will post a photo later!
  13. Just thinking! Do divide up the layout into power districts. The station, depot, fiddle yard and main line boards. So if a short occurs, (usually a locomotive run against incorrectly set points) you can quickly locate by isolating each area. Some people used car brake light bulbs as indicator lamps. There are other clever circuits available as well. I found this out when a point motor frog switching failed and shut the whole layout down! No rolling stock on the layout to blame, it took a while to find. Had I separated the areas up before it would have saved me precious modelling time!
  14. Great! What size and type of copper Tape did you use? How many Amps can it support? As some DCC Systems can supply up to 10 Amps.

Lab 3 in between two CEP emu driving units, class 931 081 tractor unit in Jaffa cake livery so it could be used on the 3rd rail lines! This is later in its life, when it was in intercity executive livery.
  16. https://www.departmentals.com/photo/pc3-pc4-lab-3-lab-10-1#comment-6450 Geat conversion! Was it a RSO restaurant second open before it went for conversion? Were you copying this formation?
  17. In computer war games, they are divided into real time strategy (RTS) and first person shooter(FPS). Both are role play, RTS you are a General and FPS normally a lowly private. The difference being if you lose men or tanks in the RTS, there are more at hand and the game is not over. FPS if you die it is game over! In model railways most of us ‘play’ in RTS mode, where we have overall control of what happens. (Apart from derailments and electrical gremlins!) Only a few can ‘play’ in FPS Engine driver mode where it is an ‘adventure’ controlled by the dispatcher and signalman played by other humans!
  18. Just watched your latest video! I can highly recommend it! Nice you have a story to it and with the sounds of the trains. No strange music! Can not wait for the next episode. It reminds me of this layout. He has a similar style. Trains, scenery and double take to make sure it is not a 12”:1’ video!
  19. I have just been to the West Country on a break and went to various railway stations . Then I watched the virtual exhibition video of this layout. Thinking that the model looked a bit like Castle Cary. As I had got a Class 165 train from Westbury to this station. So when it was announced that the layout was based on Castle Cary, I nearly fell off my chair!! Great work! They have just finished building a second footbridge for the crowds that come to Glastonbury. This could be your new challenge. Included is the iconic HST stop sign and a evening view from your road bridge.
  20. Great videos! The sound of the train is nice. It appears you have continuously welded track, as I can not hear the rail joints!
