  1. A tap and go facility would have been ideal, and it's cashless. Maybe the carpark firms should consider a machine that only takes bankers/credit/oyster cards, still cashless. All said we could have had a fabulous day out, as always at Ally Pally.
  2. Ally Pally is always must for my mate and I. We always go on Saturday, but rail strike cancelled that this year. We elected to go today ( 19th ), checking train times from Wadhurst, there was a good service. On arrival at Wadhurst we were greeted with a cashless parking notice, neither of us have a smart phone which is the only way to pay, so being unable to pay or risk a fine we gave up and came home. So the exhibition lost out, as did some traders I always visit, and South Eastern lost 2X London travel cards. Hopeless.
  3. A GNR/LNER J6 0-6-0. They had long lives and have never been done RTR.
  4. Some Bulleids were completely reclad. A good example is the Bluebell semi open brake 2515. This vehicle was reclad by BR using galvanised sheeting fitted in a totally different way to as built. There was no attempt to disguise screw heads or to create a flush, smooth finish. All panel joins were visible.
  5. Many thanks Tim and Ian. I'll soldier on with my Hornby reframed LSW coaches, and Bachmann Birdcages.
  6. Hi Tim, The problem lies with the height of the quarterlights and door droplights. On the models they are no in no way tall enough, and the door vent bonnet is too deep. To my eyes this seriously affects the ' look ' of the models. May I suggest you compare the B&W image I posted earlier, with the models. If you choose to buy a set you will see that the images of the prototypes illustrated on the inside of the box show how the models should look. For the money being asked for a three coach set they ought to be spot on.
  7. All I can say Tim and Ian is if you buy a set, enjoy.
  8. I think this image of a Lav brake 3rd which the models purport to represent will show up the errors.
  9. What a shame the cocked up sides on these sets was not picked up before production started. I would have been very quick to order a set, but not now. For the price of these they should be perfect.
  10. Looking at the models and 1520 on the Bluebell more closely it would seem that the quarter lights and the droplights are not tall enough on the models, and the vent bonnet on the door is too deep. As for the lack of dynamo and battery boxes on the brake coaches, this could be correct, and the centre composite supplied power for lighting in the brake' coaches. The SECR had a similar system om their trio sets..
  11. When I viewed the EFE ex LSWR coaches it immediately stuck me that the windows are too low on the body side compared to images of 1520 on the Bluebell. Even the 3 B&W images shown on the box show the difference between the prototypes and the models.
  12. I think the best version of BR(S) green Bachmann have ever come up with is the shade they have used on their EMU's, the CEP, 2EPB and Kernow thumper all look about right to me.
  13. I thought so. A bit of a cheat considering what that set is likely to cost. Thanks.
  14. I notice on TES. the Hornby Dublo Royal Scot set has a composite coach in it, is this a new tool or the all 3rd re-branded ? There was no composite in their last range of LMS coaches.
  15. It has taken Bachmann a long time to settle for a shade of BR(S) coaching stock green. As long as the present shade chosen for the new Bulleids doesn't get any darker I for one could live with their present offering.
  16. My Bachmann Bulleids arrived this morning, a West of England 2set. Here is a comparison shot with a Hornby ' shortie '. The image was taken in bright sunshine, and shows the different shades of green between the two. It could be argued that the colours depict coaches fresh from overhaul, and those that have been in service for a while. Neither are offensive to my eye. At least Bachmann have binned that horrible very dark green they used a while back. I am not sure about the white gangway doors on the Bachmann coaches, they should be black. On later 1960's repaints these doors were cream.
  17. On the Kernow website there is an image of the BR(S) version of the Bachmann Dancehall brake van. To me the model shown ( presumably a pre-production sample ) looks spot on. But my van delivered today has a matt black roof and is a much paler grey than originally shown. Not what I was expecting! My image was taken with flash so might be a little unkind.
  18. I purchased one of Bachmanns new Bulleid coaches today from the Bluebell Railway shop. For comparison I have placed it between a Hornby Maunsell, and a Hornby Bulleid 'shortie'. The glazing on the Bachmann model is far superior to that on the Hornby model, and at least the oversized screw heads around the sliding lights on the Bachmann Bulleid don't look too noticeable on the Blood and custard model. So here is a sample of what the new Bachmann models might run with, make up your own minds.
  19. With the pressure on finances and cost of living getting silly, I note that to buy both types of the banana vans is going to cost a little under £ 170.00. I was wondering if it might be possible to produce some packs containing both types of van. As they will come in packs of three there would be a ratio of 2+1 of each type, which would suit my wallet better in today's circumstances. Wishing the Accurascale lads well, you're doing a great job!
  20. Here is a reminder of how good this model is. The open third was retooled back to it's original form, why not the BCK ?. Four liveries instead of one too.
  21. Fortunately for the wallet there are only two coaches in the current range in BR(S) green. These will make up a West of England 2 car set. The wallet can just about handle that. Will I weaken when the deep vented ones are produced in green?. Possibly a 3 car set. Unless things have changed at Bachmann we could have quite a wait for these in green.
  22. I would have thought an up to date, all singing and dancing, GWR Hawksworth County would be a good bet. Probably the most neglected GWR 4 6 0 in RTR. The old Dapol model is well past it.
  23. Hattons displayed the early samples of these coaches at Alexandra Palace back in the day. My eyes were drawn to the incorrect look of the doors around the vent bonnet/ droplight area. I mentioned this to a member of Hattons staff. I was told that the models on display were only early prototypes and thing like this would be corrected. Clearly this area escaped correction.
  24. From the list of proposed liveries there doesn't seem to be an early crest Isle of Wight version, very important for the BR era up to 1960. No 4 Wroxall lasted this late.
