  1. Im sure I saw that they do have working lighting I think I saw the light on the outer edge of the cluster was non functional
  2. Ive got a small inglenook around 4ft x 1ft of that's not too small
  3. As a boy I remember a few long gone shops in the stoke area. Pleasure Treasures in burslem. Only recall going there a few times with my dad but I think they had huge glass display cases Brookfields in longton. They had trains and all sorts A shop on Uttoxeter road / high street that I cant remember the name of. Went in there with dad a few times City Centre models in hanley had a couple of shops. First one in lewis arcade then they moved onto the main street. Spent a fortune in there. The first shop I really spent my own earned cash in. Still remember some of my best purchases - Hornby 2-6-4 tank in lms red, Bachmann ivatt 2-6-2T and the pride of my collection was the premier boxed set with a merchant navy, light up Pullmans and loads of track. I thought I read somewhere the chap who owned this shop is the same chap who owned pleasure treasures in burslem. Then there was collectors corner under the railway bridge in longton. Remember paying £100+ for a Silver Link and a coronation with matching coaches. They were hard to find then and had been out of production for some time
  4. Mine ran fine both on dc with a cheapo Hornby controller and on dcc with a gaugemaster chip fitted. Wasn't quite a smooth at low speed as the Dapol 08.
  5. Flurry of stuff done the last few days. Buildings glued in place and changed the metcalfe walls for some ration stuff I had lying about which saved the need to buy another metcalfe kit. Ive put a small embankment at the front of the layout. The embankment is formed from plasticine which is then painted with a mix of brown paint and pva glue and then several shades of scatter were mixed toghether and sprinkled on top. Peco fencing was then inserted into the embankment. Vegetation has been planted alongside the fencing and the road. Static grass has been used along the base of buildings / retaining wall to bed them in and ive put some in between the rails at the end of the sidings. All in all im pretty pleased with how its turned out so far. I may put a yard crane at the back by the factory, not sure yet. Obviously my modelling isn't as good as a lot of the layouts I see on here but its been a fun project to work on so far. Loco wise ive ordered a Hornby set from asda for £25 with a small Hornby 0-4-0 in it which is a perfect size for this layout.
  6. I know ive seen it mentioned before but Hornby train set at £25 in asda, also available online to click and collect https://direct.asda.com/george/toys-character/cars-trains-planes/Hornby-freight-master-set/050743517,default,pd.html
  7. Done a bit more over the past few days. My lad spent a good half hour shunting stuff about using my 08 and a few of his tank engines. All seemed to run ok so decided to stick with the insulfrogs. Track has been ballasted with ballast magic but after hoovering up the excess after drying its left a few bald patches that need touching up. Peco backscene has been purchased ill have to try and cover the join somehow. Im going to take the buffer away from the headshunt and use a sleeper across the rail as a buffer stop gives me just enough space then for 3 wagons. Need another retaining wall kit for the backdrop. The road needs doing at the front of the layout, along with some fencing. And I need to find a box to store it in.
  8. Yeah with the 08 it could do with an extra inch or so on the headshunt so when I replace the points ill move them along slightly.
  9. thanks for the replies I think ill see what 4 wheel coaches I can come accross
  10. does anyone know of these will go round 2nd radius curves?
  11. Welcome to the first build thread I have ever done on Rmweb. I have recently sold off most of my 00 collection clearing the way for my 0 scale inglenook to be built where my main 00 circuit was. A recent offer in BRM for a discounted laser cut baseboard by scalemodelscenery gave me the idea to do a micro layout that I can work on in the living room and still keep some of my 00 stock. I kept hold of one of my 08 locos and a handful of wagons. Building the baseboard was really easy and was literally a 15 min job. It was left for the glue to dry overnight. Track was laid this morning. For now ive reused a couple of insulfrog points that were lifted from the previous layout but may replace these for electrofrogs before ballasting. The DCC decoder has been removed from the 08 and the temporary controller is a Hornby cheap unit which will be replaced with a guagemaster combi as funds allow but the tracks been tested and it all works fine. A couple of my sons 0-4-0ST smokey joe type locos were also used to test. Thomas the tank also paid a visit. The 0-4-0ST juddered over the points hence the thoughts of changing to electrofrogs as id like a little 0-4-0 peckett or a 48DS shunter. Ive reused a couple of low relief factory units and some of the retaining walling. Ill get more walling to fill the gap up to the factory. So that's it for now im working on this layout and the 0 scale one at the same time
  12. Can anyone conform of the Dapol autocoach will go round 2nd radius curves / set track points? Thinking of getting one with the 14xx
  13. I'll be calling on the sunday. Hopefully will come away with a sound chip for my new Bachmann 24/1

  15. Hi oliver thanks for the reply, if there meant to be in 3 parts im happy to keep them and glue them. I was planning to glue the roofs on in any case Is there anything I can do about the droopy coupling
  16. My 2 came today and im a bit disappointed with them and im wondering of I should return them. The BR Brown one came out of the box in 3 bits - the roof - the body and the chassis. I knew about the roof coming off but the body comes off if lifted up off the track. I guess a bit of glue will sort it. The BR Grey one has a broken bit on the chassis - I think its the brake stuff the V bit. I was careful getting out of the box in case this one was in 3 bits but this ones fine the bodys firmly on. However this one suffers from dapols annoying droopy couplings. EDIT : Added pics to show the issues. I'll email rails see what they say
  17. Ive ordered 2 BR ones and mine came thru like that as well. Ive had the despatch email so im guessing all is well
  18. Do they come with the headcode / domino prefitted or are there stickers in the boxes? Im interested in 27001 in green to go with my Bachmann 20 and 25
  19. Ring them up. Normally I get stuff shipped the day after ordering if I order late at night. The only time I had an issue was once when paypal had refused payment for some reason. A quick call to make card payment and all was well
  20. Was it a proper smiths or a franchise? I work in several post offices that have a small WH Smiths part. They are all private owned and not operated by smiths there a franchise so wouldnt offer the deal - but having said that we wouldnt have had the catologues in the first place
  21. My local store told me today that every stockist is only being allocated a single set of 4.
  22. Had a quick look in the catologue and looking at the J94 I see they now list as DCC Ready. And the railroad pannier in the set says same. I always thought they lacked a socket.
  23. Was same in Longton Tesco, where I got mine from, but they were on the end of a shelf and not placed near the model magazines
  24. Im sure I had one years ago that came in a train set.
