    Dapol 08

Mine blew 2 imperiums - after emailing joel at Dapol it turned out the imperium isn't compatible with the 08. I posted about it earlier in the thread.
  2. Theres 3 in my vicinity, 2 very local and one a bit further out and I have used them all. Theres another model shop within walking distance of my house but they don't stock railway items they specialise in wargaming and RC cars. However I do still use them as I can get things like scenic materials and paints and knife blades. But on occasions I do visit rails of sheffiled - mainly on the way back from a yorkshire campsite - and olivias to do sound installs for me.
  3. Yep I got the whiskies galore set on its release from rails and as you say the instructions do say select, but Bachmann also told me it was a V5. Im very pleased with mine
  4. Ive had a few of the packs of trackside fencing that now come in a little plastic box, but rather than throw the plastic box im reusing them for things like track pins, fishplates etc
  5. To answer my own question, ive had a reply from Bachmann and it has a Zimo MX658N18 fitted
  6. The BR Green Class 20 from the whiskies Galore set is a loksound select according to the instruction sheet - however Bachmann have told ne its actually a loksound 5. So who knows?
  7. The 08 is in desperate need of lighting. The 25 or 101 hasn't been in the range for a while so hopefully they may make the railroad range. Even better if they have TTS sound
  8. Yeah I think so its fine on plain track it just dosent like the points. I had considered changing to electrofrogs but my double slip would still be the insulfrog
  9. Has anyone got one of these yet? There out and Digitrains have put a video up and it sounds pretty good. Very tempted to get one but im wondering what its performance is like over insulfrogs as I have an older 6 pin 03 and its not great over pointwork at all and spends most if its time in the box.
  10. I think the hattons chips are made by DCC concepts, even the packaging is similar. I called in my local shop this morning after the school run and picked up a lenz silver. The loco runs great now with the lenz installed so its obviously a problem with the hattons decoder. Only issue now is the lenz is only a 4 function decoder so the lights don't work correctly but I can live with that until I get a sound chip for it.
  11. yes the lights work all ok, forgot to say im using a prodigy DCC01
  12. Today I got these 2 items, Dapol 08 and hattons decoder, the decoder being the recommended one by hattons for the loco https://www.hattons.co.uk/381597/dapol_7d_008_013_class_08_shunter_08717_in_br_blue/stockdetail.aspx https://www.hattons.co.uk/403552/hattons_originals_dcr_21pin_direct_v2_21_pin_6_function_1_1amp_direct_plug_decoder_with_back_emf/stockdetail.aspx The loco runs ok on DC, albeit a bit noisy and it hums before it finally moves off. My DC test controller is a generic cheap Hornby train set controller. I installed the decoder and the loco runs ok in reverse but going forwards it moves a short distance then cuts out and starts moving again. Ive tried altering a few CVs such as turning off BEMF and increasing the CV2 start voltage. CV2 is now at 125 and it does run ( mostly ) without stalling, but even on speed step 1 on 128 steps its pretty nippy and the speed dosent increase with the throttle being increased. Im assuming that's because of a high start voltage. So I changed CV3 to 100 and now it does accelerate slowly, but it then starts to stutter again. This issues very similar to problems I had with DCC concepts decoders in various 00 locos. The only solution I found was to change the decoders to lenz or zimo. So does anyone else have any suggestions or anything else I can try? When running on DC Is it normal for the loco to hum ( and if I put my hand on it I can feel it vibrating ) and need to a fair turn of the dial to get moving?
  13. I may just take the loco to olivias to get them to put sound in. Looking on there site the difference between a DC or DCC sound model is £201. So if its around that for them to fit sound to my own model ill be happy
  14. Seeing as hattons are selling a couple of the class 20s off cheap can I ask a few questions.. How easy is it to fit a DCC decoder to? Which one would I need? Is there anywhere that could do it for me? May seem like newbie questions but all my 0 gauge stuff so far from Dapol has accepted a normal 21 pin decoder with the exception of the 08 which has a Hornby TTS in it Also, has anyone run one through the peco set track curves?
  15. Heljan made a few. Anything new from thr Dapol stand?
  16. Just seen of facebook they are doing 0 gauge mk2 coaches
  17. Brilliant thank you, and great layout too.
  18. Has anyone tried the 05 around peco set track points?

    CLASS 24/0

I think the 21 pin versions come in the newer style box. If im ever not sure I google the running number and I can usually fins the old product page from hattons where they say if its 8 or 21 pin
  20. The screws are partly under the bogies, but its easy to get a screwdriver through the bogie and get the screws out. Once the screws are out the shell just lifts off. It dosent come completely off as theres wires attached to it for the lighting but theres enough give to place the body by the side of the loco whislt putting the decoder in
  21. Yep deffo has working head and tail lights. The pics above do seem to show some bleed on the different colours but mines fine. fitted with a zimo decoder and ive got no complaints at all, for £99 its a no brainer really. Might get it sound fitted after ive got xmas out of the way,
  22. Arrived today and shes a beauty. Runs smooth from the box and it was fairly easy to get into to fit a decoder
  23. Ill get on the live chat to hattons tomorrow
