  1. I would hope, that anyone taking photographs or making videos of a layout would at minimum, ask the layout operators if it's ok to do so. AFAIK If you don't want a youtube exhibitor to make money from their uploads, simply don't subscribe to their channel. The only money they can make then is a few pennies at most, for each click response to advertisements.
  2. I have managed to find three model railway shops in Athens. On previous visits I've visited two of them (on Ippocratous St) located opposite each other. They both stock mostly european models. One has a website https://www.modellingcentre.gr/en/ and the guy there converts and repaints stock to many types used in Greece (OSE). If you're ever there on holiday, its worth a visit, As ever, Greeks are very friendly people.
  3. The Art Deco service station is quite magnificent. Could be the inspiration for many scratch-builds. 1920s bus depot anyone? Re-built railway station frontage?
  4. Good luck with this endeavour. Don't forget to let us know when you go mainstream.
  5. Some plumbers/builders merchants, sell a toothless saw specifically designed for cutting insulation and foam pipe lagging. Gives a clean cut with no mess.
  6. I recall our first tv in the late fifties very early sixties, and when we returned from 2 years in Aden (no tv there) my dad would use the brass curtain rails as aerials. In married quarters at the time, you weren't allowed to fit tv aerials to the house. Later, with the advent of uhf, we used loft aerials. Bill
  7. Looking at crafting sites, I think the secret with Mod Podge, is to build up the depth a little at a time.
  8. A little ego boost from the company I work for. To mark 15 years service, man and boy man, there was a little presentation from them yesterday. With a bit of sneaky research by SWMBO, I was presented with an Oxford Rail Dean Goods locomotive. Looks like I need to build a micro layout for it to run on. Sometimes, when everything seems a bit bleak, people can surprise you. All the best....
  9. Hi Mike I will be very interested to see how this develops. regards Bill
  10. I hope the challenge keeps going. Even though I failed to finish my diorama for last years challenge, it is still a work in progress and might be suitable for entry in a future one. I have also started another diorama, and am in the planning stages of a third. So although I have yet to finish an entry so far, mostly due to health, family and work issues eating into modelling time. At least - for me - there is the aspirational aspect of the challenges and the vicarious enjoyment of everyone else's excellent entries. Bill_j
  11. I'd keep the height, but raise the trackbed. That would give the space for a quayside, or canal.
  12. Whenever I visit Southampton Art Gallery, I spend half an hour or so, just sitting in the Burnes Jones room, indulging in the Perseus series. Highly recommended. Wikipedia Commons Licence
  13. Where's the "thought provoking" button when you need it?
  14. Very steampunk. She also seems to be sporting RFC roundels on her wings. Seasons Greetings all!!
  15. I really like the sense of space you've achieved here. Nicely rural, and typical of country stations that were often a mile or more away from the villages they served. Regards and seasonal greetings Bill
  16. "You need a lot of ‘stuff’ to be a railway modeller!" My other half holds the opposite view...the usual comment would be - "You can't possibly 'need' all this stuff!!!
  17. imo, scratchbuilt swear words to fit the location, is the only way to go. Bill
  18. I'm in my 60s and I am often ashamed at my age group (and older), for appalling manners and lack of consideration for others. One of my biggest dislikes at exhibitions.
  19. Another possibility would be an extra episode - all the best bits, that didn't make it to the broadcast episodes, due to time and editorial constraints. Overall a worthy, entertaining and enlightening look into the world of railway modelling. Well done to all the teams that took part, to the producers and to Channel Five for showing the programme. On a totally different but connected theme. As a long time fan of Kathy Millatt's youtube videos I would love to see what Kathy could do with the items from the scratchbuild challenges.
  20. An excellent model Stu. This is exactly what we need to show - with a modest financial outlay, a few months of modelling fun and a small amount of space - what can be achieved. Whilst we all dream of building our Magnus Opus, we could be getting on with these, mini model railways, and find ourselves with a little gem like this. Anyone with a slight interest in model railways could do a lot worse than look at this particular section of RMWeb. Regards Bill
  21. What a great way to spread the message that Model Railways are FUN. Thanks Tony!
  22. They already use superglue instead of stitches for many minor injuries. That's how they repaired my eyebrow a few months ago when it was split to the bone after a fall.It hardly shows at all now.
