A proper paint spraying mask. It may save your life.

I can't wait to see this on trains. Hopefully a rake of matching Mk2s or Mk3s. 87 002 approaching Parkside Junction heading for Preston on another Crewe - Preston crew training turn. 9th June 2020. -

We've all been there with airbrushing. It's one of those skills that takes time and practice. Very rewarding when you get it right. Persevere and eventually you'll have more success than failures. -

Excellent Bob, I made a couple of them when I modelled in OO. Ian -

Recommended "faded" off-black?
44690 replied to justin1985's topic in Weathering, Painting & Transfers
I rarely use black. I tend to mix it with brown or grey depending on what I'm modelling. Humbrol Mat black and 62 leather being a favourite on underframes. (Copied from Martin Welch's book 'The art of weathering). -

What a difference. I'll miss the railway and the updates. It kept me motivated when my focus was elsewhere. Glad your making progress with your other projects. -

It's worth remembering that underframes on wagons in use tend to accumulate track dirt and brake dust so can have a very strong brownish hue. I tend to mix my own underframe paint to reflect the look I want to achieve. -
There are some videos on YouTube showing how to make your own thinners for Acrylic paint. Much cheaper than buying the manufacturers own.

A decent face mask even if you're not doing a lot of spraying.

Weathering Limited Editions
44690 replied to chuffinghell's topic in Weathering, Painting & Transfers
Many years ago I bought a Mainline, or Bachmann Std 4. I can't remember which manufacturer it was, but I still have the limited edition certificate somewhere. It was a limited edition because a small number were produced with the number 75019. I bought it because I wanted a Std 4 with that particular number. It has since been weathered and now runs with a replacement Comet chassis after the original one failed! I have no plans to sell it. It is worth more to me than a collector would ever pay, even if I'd never taken it out of the box. -
I agree with all that's been said here. A spray booth venting to the outside is best. I always use one, even for an airbrush. More essential is a proper respirator. Paint fumes are nasty.

I will have to take some pictures! I am building my layout so it is capable of being incorporated into the Association modular layout. Only one board made so far, but most of the things I need apart from time are to hand. At the moment I am making the buildings and scenic features as I don't have anywhere to make progress on the boards.

IIRC Inspector Sands is correct. No Mk 3 brake coaches so on the LMR a MK1 BG was used. I'm not sure what bogies they ran on though. I might trawl through some of my old pictures.

The fire station is a fantastic bargain Bob. I must start calling in the charity shops to see what I can find. The wagons look the part too. Glad you're cracking on with stuff. I was at the NEC this weekend and I can't see me getting much railway modelling done this side of Christmas now. I've started to make some working lamps and have some of the scenic features for my modular layout under construction. One board built, and all the materials collected for the second adjoining board. -
You have done a superb job so far. I agree that running live steam at an exhibition is difficult due to the inability to hear the burner properly. At a recent meeting I had my Lady Anne run out of steam, although that was due to the gas tank not being completely full. I shall be following your build with interest as I am also building a portable indoor layout.
