  1. Is there a good history of Maybank (through its various iterations) available? I see from that film from 1935 that the first version was 3-rail!
  2. Story here of the closure https://www.devonlive.com/news/devon-news/sadness-iconic-devon-shop-closes-9084851?fbclid=IwAR3odv3yHbloaImsZg875r0jK2vwbAnqhBZr3bIIVxTCOYSVK97Cl5zRCaY
  3. It would be interesting to see the details of that run, as I find it hard to believe a 5MT reached 107, when even Clan Line only managed 104!
  4. I think theres been some confusion - paid promotion here doesnt refer to adverts (worth remembering that YT will put adverts on ANY video, not just on those with whom it shares the revenue with the creator). It refers to a situation where a creator has either been paid, or perhaps been given a freebie by someone to talk about their product. An example being a supplier paying someone to review (favourably) their product. Whenever I've reviewed a product on my YouTube channel, its always been something I've bought myself, as I think is the case with many others.
  5. The main manufacturers will only supply "bricks and mortar" shops. Hornby used to use a distributor for wholesale (A.B. Gee of Derby), but they no longer supply Hornby, so it all has to come direct.
  6. The current batch are actually already in production. What may happen with future orders is a different matter.
  7. What we can assume is that they considered that it was not possible to pass on these costs and maintain the level of custom to make it worthwhile. But as I said, it was definitely a factor.
  8. I'm not making any such assumption - I am literally quoting them saying that it was one of the reasons for their decision to close.
  9. I'm not sure either, but then they are in possession of much more information on this than I am. If it was as simple as just passing the cost on, then it wouldn't have been an issue affecting the business enough for it to make them close it down.
  10. Presumably the fact that they are closing, rather than passing on those costs suggests that their opinion is that they couldn't be passed on. Likewise, they could simply have said that they wont dispatch to Australia, or even anywhere abroad.
  11. It was literally one of the reasons they gave.
  12. Think thats today's preowned stock thats literally just been uploaded.
  13. Indeed, but I was after the 8 pin ones they had for £9.
  14. They did have a few hundred 8 pin decoders, but by the time I could get to a PC to place an order they had all sold out.
  15. I'm sure many more people visited the cathedral who wouldn't have done normally. My point is, given the event had free entry, it will have many more visitors than one where a family of 4 would cost over £50 to visit.
  16. Making Tracks had no entry fee, and Chester Cathedral is in the centre of the city. I'd expect it to have attracted more visitors!
  17. In the (publicly available) accounts turnover for the year to June 2018 was £14.4million, so i guess it was £15million.
  18. I think its all to easy to fall into the trap that if a few people have a problem, then all those models get tarnished with the same problem. Elsewhere, Accurascale said they had sold 18,000 class 37s. In this day and age, thats a lot. Even a low fault rate with them can mean many unhappy customers, all too eager to vent their (understandable) frustration where they can. The reality might be that they are much more reliable than a manufacturer who might only have sold 1,000 or 2,000 models, but has fewer complaints.
  19. Worth noting this in the NEW Accurascale lifetime warranty conditions;
  20. A digital subscription to Railway Modeller doesnt remove ads on this site. RMWeb is part of the Warner stable.
  21. According to @dibber25 on another thread, the circulation of the constructor was c 40k in the 60s, and 20k when it closed in 1987
  22. Surprised the digital subs for RM are so low - you get the 75 year back catalogue!
  23. Bear in mind a chunk of Peco's sales are through Pecorama, a tourist attraction where the margins are very high (and yet they still provide really good value for money)
