  1. I think you're right mate. I notice the mainline track sides appear brown with rust / road dirt and sidings tend to be rust coloured. I have a tiny brush which will be spot on, acrylics should be OK for this.
  2. Hi Guy / Rick Many thanks for your comments. The buffer stops were sprayed with primer and painted with a rust coloured acrylics with a little brown added. I'm at the dilemna of do I weather all the track sides on the layout for the forthcoming photo shoot - or just strategic places.
  3. Have decided to fully fence in the yard at Mount Charles to give some definition to the main line as it seemed odd not to have some sort of boundary between the yard and mainline. I made up some scratchbuilt wooden fencing panels and concrete posts using slaters plasticard and H section. Here are some pictures. I cut the tops of some of the panels to show damage and rot, and weathered them to pick out the ridges a bit better. The section constructed before the plastikote textured primer added Primer added and a close up to show the damage along the top The fencing having been painted and weathered. One section has not been treated to show the difference a little dry brushing can make The area was first treated to a line of static grass to give some "age" to the scene, and small gates added in between for access to the railway - these act as important scene breakers The fencing complete with 47508 SS Great Briton on the main line waiting to drop into an occupied platform. The fencing gives a feeling of depth to the scene that I feel was missing.
  4. They weren't in action much mate. These are two of the moves I managed to get - poor pictures really, but newsworthy. It was a shame when the writing was on the wall for the class - even more poignant that they were a little elusive west of Plymouth after 1990 and you saw more at Waterloo than PZ!
  5. Yes she popped up for a visit with my colleague James the other day on a whistle stop tour of Cornwall.
  6. Ah - but did these visit St Blazey I wonder? 50008 works the inspection saloon past Roskear in 1991 Slow journey back East. 50015 Valiant hauls 08644 back from Penzance in 1991
  7. Thanks Martin. It's almost finished now, so try to keep the thread alive with occasional photos.
  8. A facebook upload brought back memories of Penzance a 25 years ago. I tried to replicate it with my terminus - though back to front!
  9. Lovely photographs Mike. Quite a contrast to the 2000 event at which I was a steward.
  10. Heck - thats some fiddle yard mate! You're gonna be busy there for sure.
  11. Thanks - it was 270, the one Hornby repaired so I dont want to fiddle too much with it. I'm on the lookout for a chassis as it's never been the same since.
  12. Cheers Neal. The majority of Hornby blue class 31s come with factory weathering, which is a ghastly light brown gunge liberally sprayed at mid body height. I have removed most of it wih T cut, and given this renumbered class 31 a coat of matt varnish aerosol and used weatheing powders instead. I think it looks a lot better. Now ETS fitted 31412 - it can work air cons. Just need an ETS cable to put on the fron tnow. Have also done 31420
  13. Good to see the UK - Aus exports were boosted by your visit mate! They all look great on the layout, especially the class 22. I have a strange affection for these locos though I was a toddler when they were withdrawn. I hear the ELR boys at Bury have an engine they think came from a class 22. Now all we need are some spoked wheels, diagrams, and a lottery winner to finance a new build! It was good to catch up at Liskeard, and appropriate to toot the car horn at you getting pasties at Philps in Hayle!
  14. Crikey - all this summer rain is giving the grass a growth spurt! He's some recent treated areas around the layout. 33019 close up of the grass between the yard & main running lines. 37049 / 238 & 506 in the holding sidings pre static grass 37 & 47 with grass added in the cess Three pairs of bombs And a weekends worth of class 31s from the engineering work
  15. Making great progress Rich - well done
  16. 60024 has just arrived at St Blazey in the consist of 6C99 hauled by 66144 overnight. This is now 4 stored 60s at BZ the others being 60096, 60100 & 60044. Will obtain a picture of ther 4 line up ASAP. Heres 044 & 100 at Par being taken around to St Blazey few weeks ago by 66141.
  17. I have some pictures in my Cornish images gallery on here of the class 47/56 recently which took away the mothballed silver TEAs to complement Richards great pictures.
  18. Looks like it is set when Burngullow had the main line single section. Are you planning the line where the CDAs stnd to curve away like the Parkandillack branch? It is very well designed Rich, lots of shunting possibilities, and maybe a freightliner siding too?
  19. Hi - I use cars weathering powders. The main ingredient is black powder paint. The main exhaust deposits is almost black mixed with a little brown. Then more brown is added to the roof, body sides and especially grilles etc..
  20. The weathering powders have been out again - this time 37038 & 56013 have been liberally coated.
  21. Hey - you're on here too! Nice one mate. I've got some of that textured plastikote primer if you want to give your walkways a spray. Just holler and we can sort dsomething out.
  22. Hello again! Sorry for the lapse in postings, been waiting for some deliveries to make a start with some grasswork. Here are the results of some grass areas using a £25 EBAY static grass applicator and International Models 6mm autumn & winter grass. I have chosen small areas to practise on and hope to "branch out" as it were as I get confident with the results. I am delighted so far, even if the detail is quite small - it is worth the effort. The OVA is applied to the area to be treated (patchy in this case as I want a tufted area). The brass screw is gently screwed in adjacent to the area, crocodile clip added and off we go! Here are some pictures. PVA added to wooded grassy area (Clump and hanging basket liner) The grass is applied - watch them fingers!! Here the PVA was added to a mainly ballast base in blobs and gently spread out. You can see the screw into the board here... The area once dried and the applicator teased over the area a couple of times. Here the hanging basket liner area has been treated directly - looks a great improvement.
  23. Heres a couple of train pictures to complement the pictures so far. There are some crackers on the Cornwall Railway Society website to enjoy. 08945 gets the oad across the barriers 37206 shunting on the quay
  24. got my grass now waiting for my static grass applicator to arrive!
