  1. “Brush Type 4 diesel locomotive D1514 heads a test train of 51 ‘Roadrailer’ vans near Cuffley in April 1963.’Roadrailers’ were vans that could either run on steel railway wheels or rubber-tyred road wheels but never went into commercial service.” https://www.dugdalecentre.co.uk/media/Making Tracks Exhibition.pdf
  2. They were rail blue. Meant to include this also.
  3. A couple from British transport films..
  4. Ordered one today. D5083. The nearest I can find to evidence to run one in my area is this shot of D5081 at Edge Hill in 63, pic facebook.
  5. End of the CLC bridge over the Mersey. Ian Summerfield shared with permission.

  8. Couldn't resist ordering an early set of 5. The resent British transport release The road ahead, has a nice film called Speed the payload from 1967 with a nice shot I think of Glasgow Gushetfalds and a nice run past of a full set with 2 containers per wagon. There is a noticeable gap between these 2 containers. I take it these will be 27ft ones?
  9. Thanks I wasn't aware, I have 2 on order arriving soon.
  10. I require sandboxes to complete several Comet chassis. I don't know why they where never included in the kits? Preferably whitemetal or even lost wax so that they can be soldered on. Could someone point me in the right direction of a supplier for these locos please... Jinty. Fowler tank. Standard 4 mogul Standard 5 J39 Many thanks Mike
  11. So back to the V2. Are they not doing a monoblock cylinder version in BR green?
  12. Im looking for a shot of D3856 between 1960-64 for this same reason, seems a bit photo shy.
  13. John Ward lived alongside the CLC North Liverpool line in Gateacre. His notes are fantastic, he noted down things like smokebox shed plates and locos with later crests when they first started to appear. We are up to 1964. His wife also took numbers for him if he wasn't at home. Some notes, Walton shed closed 15/12/63. John visited on 26/1/64 and no locos were present. 13/6/64 all lines in to Walton shed lifted. Diesels other than the Sheffield class 31 and 08 movements seem to be rare during the time the shed was open, afterwards... Seen by his wife outside the house in Gateacre on 8/7/64 was D122 on a inbound freight at 12:45. 2/7/64 D2372 and D3855 light engines. 3/7/64 D2858 and guards van. These sightings would not have necessarily have went to Huskisson as they could have also gone to Langton or via Aintree towards Preston. He does note class 02s and even a Jackshaft on Aintree shed, my guess is they were going to or from Speke Junction for fuel. But its still an interesting bit of history of the CLC North Liverpool line. His notes are quite extensive but being such a busy line and with a lot of movements happening at night things could be missed. A class 02/03 light engine move may appear on the layout..
  14. Ive been doing some more wagons. Some new Parkside wagons and some Airfix ones have been rescued with new Parkside chassis as they were 00 acquired from club member Bob Rowlands but the axle holes were too enlarged. The first 2 rows are wagons Ive worked on the last few days. The others are some ive had for a while now from our Crown Street layout. We do have some more stored away.
  15. Thank you Stephen. Chris has sent me some pictures of his progress on the houses including the front walls.
  16. Recently been given spotting notes of John Ward. At Skelton Junction. 60849 14/10/61 60855 2/12/61 60887 25/11/61 60939 pre 22/11/61. So they didnt all go via Fallowfield. That must obviously have been a daytime working. Also notes York K1 62048 on Walton shed on 5/8/56 with several other Gorton ones on shed when new in 1949. So at least I can say they got to the shed and can run mine on the layout knowing this which Im happy as ive always liked the look of these locos.
  17. From an ex driver when I asked him what freights from Walton used the Fallowfield loop. ”The only Walton working that used the Fallowfield loop was the 'Midnight York', always a York B1, which booked on at 11.45pm, engine already prepared, off shed at midnight, depart Walton Up Side at 12.30am, calls at Halewood and Warrington to pick up, then across Risley Moss to Trafford Park and Throstle's Nest Junction, away from Manchester on the Cheadle line, then the Fallowfield loop to Fairfield Junction and relief at Guide Bridge at 3.11am. The return was the 1.05am from Dringhouses (York) to Walton, train number 753, departing Guide Bridge at 4.50am and back the same way, putting off and picking up at Warrington and Halewood, with arrival at Walton about 7.30am.” He says always a B1 but for a while there were V2s, then towards Huddersfield probably via Micklehurst loop and then via Mirfield where 60954 derailed on a working from Walton which is when they discovered V2s where banned on part of the route. Then I would guess via Wakefield Kirkgate.
  18. Yes Ive seen that one. Would be a nice one to model. For a while V2 locos worked the York trains. Ive searched a long time to find a photo of a V2 at Walton. Ive recently been shown this one taken by John Ward from the Jeremy Suter collection and shared with permission of 60887 on Sunday 26/11/61. John was a keen enthusiast in the area and made details notes of the workings he saw and photographs from his house alongside the line in Childwall. Ive only seen snippets of these notes but now they are being shared with me and Im just in the process looking through 1957 at the moment. Notes of midland 3fs which although i have been told by people they saw at Walton I had not seen any numbers recorded. 43200 and 43843 on shed on 9/11/57. So Ive just ordered a Bachmann 43843. Layout period is roughly 1957-63. The year the shed track layout was altered and 63 the year the shed closed. Im looking forward to the Bachmann V2 being released.
  19. Where did the presflo wagons from Northenden work to and from in steam days? I presume Peak forest but anywhere else?
  20. Bachmann’s later unweathered grey mineral wagons such as 37-225g seem to be rare at the minute. So a load of Parkside ones ordered to build during this quiet period.
