  1. The Reverend did, but those who own the rights to children’s TV episodes don’t seem to worry. Never trust detail to luvvies (he says characterising unjustly!).Paul.

How about the geezer leaning on the wire fence? :-)Paul.
  3. The RCH maps show GWR finishing at Saltney Jn and Birkenhead Joint starting at the south end of Chester triangle, so Saltney to Chester South was LNWR(LMS). Could GWR authorisation stopped at Saltney, but LMS authorisation permitted them into Chester? Another Paul.
  4. Is that ‘Trainspotting at Tynemouth’? If so, I must try sometime.I was at Central Station when the ‘weather’ came through: quite something!!! Glad I wasn’t on the walk back to North Shields. Can’t be many shows where the Consett hoppers appear on two layouts (I never did find out how you ran them between the two) taking me back to teenage years. As said in an earlier post, really glad I made the effort to come. Paul.
  5. Not a portable layout then? ! :-)Looking forwards to see what follows (in awe). Paul.
  6. Just a suggestion, and I appreciate your difficulties, could you put something on the advertising indicating the ‘limitations’ of the catering? Obviously needs to be more positively worded that I have! May be by saying what you will be able to provide and emphasising seating for those bringing their own food (but that might further discourage your existing caterer).Paul.
  7. Thanks for bringing it to North Shields, I really enjoyed watching.Paul.
  8. As they said above, a really superb layout. The signalling is so impressive: took me a while to work out what was what, and I do it for the day job. Really well done. Paul.

Ever so sorry, but that’s a really nice angle, so you’re going to have to do more balancing and breath holding. Thanks for the photo, Paul.
  10. They’ve obviously never lived in a LARGE town!!! :-) Paul.
  11. Not been to this show before but planning to come on Saturday. ‘Tis 45 years since I was last at Tynemouth swimming pool, I suspect things have changed a bit (more building, less grass). Looking forward to it. Paul.
  12. I’ve never been on that saloon, only the ScR one, but I wonder if they are the vents from calor gas heaters. Others may know better.Paul.
  13. Collett bow ended restaurant (modified) I believe. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/uploads/monthly_12_2014/post-9992-0-63886200-1418404008.jpg Paul.
  14. Going miles off topic here, but reminds me of someone who had an unwanted phone call selling conservatories and played along with the pressure selling then after 1/2 hour mentioned that they had never seen a conservatory on a first floor flat before and wondered how it would work!!!Paul.
  15. Just gone window shopping. It won’t fit in 10x8 with a chimney in the corner so that’s me out. Hope all goes well and mojo returns enough to do something. Paul.
  16. I’ve looked up the kit and it’s just what I need for my parcels depot. Did/will you need to do much to hide the HOness of the doors, and did you buy it in the UK? Thanks, Paul.
  17. I’m too young to have memories of what BR steam sounded like. :-( That sounds very good to me and particularly the slow start and the coasting. I have yet to hear diesels sound as good as that on a start and stop - they seem to move before the revs have gone down under load and seem to power to a stop. Given that people say steam is harder to get right than diesel, you have done an excellent job. Really liked it. Paul.
  18. You said ‘walk’ in relation to going from the block post in the station buildings to the signalbox at the points. Is the bike broken? Gone now, but Nairn still used a bike in the 90s and (I think in 1983) I saw a token exchange on the move at Nairn - it was the signalman moving (on the bike) and the train stationary! Paul.
  19. Wood on wood works fine (think furniture) as long as the tolerances are reasonably tight: it’s when drawers turn rather than slide that they jam. You won’t be able to pull on one end though, two hands, or one carefully in the centre. A bit of candle wax works wonders for friction with wood on wood. I was fortunate to be a guest operator on Newhaven a Town at Glasgow this year - they use the golf tee idea and it worked well. Paul.
  20. Mega envy here! I wish you all the best for the next steps.Paul.
  21. “This weekend” as in 28/29th? !!!The AB hoppers bring back memories, although it was 2x class 24 by the time I knew it. All along the back of Gateshead shed there were bits of orange ore dropped from passing trains and also some smaller purple bits. Had you thought about replicating that, or was it only in diesel days that the leakage was apparent? Liked the videos. Paul.

Mike, Page 28 column 4 between the stations and the first train is the list I think. Thanks to all for making me look at the STT as I have discovered lots of what would now be sectional appendix material. Box to box omnibus circuits are fascinating. Paul.
  23. ‘Bin poking around on the SRS website and confirmed to my satisfaction that ‘Spur’ is a name used by GW for short sidings and headshunts. Thus East Spur and West Spur would be suitable names (see Par and Didcot as examples). Old Oak Engine Shed called the lines to the shed ‘Loco’ so my earlier suggestion is equally valid. Paul.
