  1. Good evening everyone I did manage to get a couple of hours in the workshop this afternoon. No major work was undertaken, I was mainly checking a few items and putting away a new router cutter that arrived today. I ordered it from China last April, it finally arrived this morning, it must have been a the slow boat! James and Amelia arrived just after 4:30, whilst I was making a start on tonight’s tea, fish and chips. This was footy the remains of Wednesday’s carrot cake. We then spent a few hours chatting and catching up on the latest. Amelia will be at her school prom on Wednesday, this is her last year at this school, next year she will start secondary school. It doesn’t seem 5 minutes since she was born, she’ll be 12 in September! We’ve had more rain this evening as well as a bit of thunder too, but we didn’t see any lightning. Once they’d gone we had a quick tidy up and then I opened a bottle of red. By this time it was almost 9:00, so we decided to wait until 10:00 before switching on the idiots lantern, only to find the was bl00dy tennis on so mute was pressed and we both sat and read whilst we waited for the news to start. The forecast for the weekend is sunshine, so hopefully I’ll be out in the garden tomorrow. Goodnight all
  2. Back from the Trafford Centre and the butchers, all the shopping has now been packaged away and I’m just about to eat my dinner, a lovely meat and potato pastie. Back later
  3. Come In From The Rain - Wishbone Ash
  4. Hand store on display in a window, wind up sittin’
  5. Good morning everyone It’s raining, it’s steadily gotten heavier as the morning has progressed, but the garden was in desperate need of some rain! The plans for today now seem to be a regular thing, first off we are going to the Trafford Centre to buy a few bits and pieces, then on our way home we’ll call at the butchers for our weekly meat rations, hopefully we’ll be in time to pick up apastie too! The will be no gardening done today, but I may get a couple of hours in the workshop this afternoon before our guests arrive for tea, we’ve got James and Amelia coming here. Back later
  6. Sorry to read your sad news, my thoughts are with you all. Brian
  7. rains in California but girl don’t they
  8. King Of The Mountain - Kate Bush
  9. Good evening everyone Well we finally got the rain that was predicted rain, but not until the evening. So I spent a good few hours in the garden, once again getting rid of the grass sods that are currently upside down in the garden. I’ve got about 2-3sq m to get rid of then it’s all gone. I’ll now be able to get rid of my lawnmower and strimmer as they will no longer be needed, so that will be a little corner of the shed freed up! The water at Salford Quays was quite warm tonight 23.7C, a lot warmer than I expected, but refreshing none the less. It started to rain just as I was going into the water and then really came down heavily shortly afterwards. It was so heavy that it made visibility quite difficult, putting what looked like a mist just above the waters surface, it then stopped just as I was getting out. Tonight I once again managed to swim 2.1k (4 laps) in just over 55 minutes, so I’m really pleased with that. Robert. Sorry to read about your Dad, I hope his treatment will go some way to alleviate his condition. Goodnight all
  10. One Day Like This - Elbow
  11. Once Sheila had gone, around 9:00 o’clock I made a start on the soup, it now decanted into containers and cooling ready for eating/freezing and I’m now waiting for the kettle to boil before making myself a muggertea. Once that’s gone, I’m off outside, I may be some time.
  12. Look At Yourself - Uriah Heap
  13. Good morning everyone It’s another dull start to the day, we’ve even had a forecast of rain, but we’ll have to see if it does! Once Sheila has left for her Zumba class I’m off to the kitchen to make some courgette, potato and spring onion soup. This particular soup is especially easy to make so once I’m done it’s outside, weather permitting, to do a bit more work in the garden before dinner. After dinner the plan is to spend the rest of the day in the workshop. Hopefully after tea, if I’m not too tired, I’ll go and jump in the old canal! Back later
  14. Good evening everyone The weather has been a lot cooler than of late and fairly cloudy, it almost looked like it would rain at any minute, but none was forthcoming. However, it has been very refreshing none the less. No real big tasks were done today other than laying a small temporary paved area in front of the decked area of the workshop. This has been laid with the idea of making it easier and safer to walk around the garden and move about with the wheel barrow until the new path has been installed. After dinner I had a quick read of the latest issue of Hornby magazine before making a start on tonight’s tea, Kashmiri chicken. Whilst I was cooking this Ava, Evie, Max and Sheila watched a couple of episodes of Dr Who. We dropped the kids off at home around 7:00, then Sheila and I went to Costco to stock up on some stuff, it was almost empty! Once we’d done there it was home, put the shopping away and water the plants and have a look to see how things are doing in this heat. Luckily we’ve not lost anything, but our evergreen hydrangea had just started to open when the heatwave started, they’ve all shrivelled up and dried so they will be dead headed tomorrow. Once done it was back inside and a sit done with a bottle of trooper. Wellcome to the madhouse Natalie. Goodnight all
  15. Why not, it’s not been used has it!
  16. Good morning everyone The sun is shining brightly as has been the norm for the last few weeks. My first task this morning is to ice the carrot cake I made on Monday. Once that’s done it will be spending the morning in the garden and then a start will be made after dinner on tonight’s chicken curry as requested by Ava. She, Evie and Max are all round for tea tonight so no doubt by the time they’ve gone home, we’ll be worn to a frazzle. Back later
  17. highway to hell, I’m on the
  18. Good evening everyone The sun managed to make an appearance, but it wasn’t until after 11:00 and the slight breeze made for a pleasant morning in the garden. So most of the morning was spent under the shade of a large sycamore tree that is in the corner of the school field behind the shed. Roses were dead headed, a few weeds removed and a few other small jobs were done before I removed the last bit of the grass. Whilst I was working I heard a bit of a commotion overhead and found it to be a gull seeing of a buzzard, which I suspect was getting a bit close to the gulls nest. During my digging I unearthed some more coal, some coke, the barrel from a YALE type doorlock, several plastic clothes pegs and a small horse shoe, although given the size, it’s probably off a pony. It must have been in the ground for quite some time, given the amount of corrosion on it. But in honour of my paternal grandfather, who was a farrier, as was his father and grandfather, I’ll give it a good clean and then a coat of paint and will find a place to hang it. After dinner I retired to the workshop and carried on with the construction of a couple of protoscale gearboxes, they nice pieces of kit and very compact. Goodnight all
  19. The Show Must Go On - Queen
  20. Good morning everyone It’s another slightly overcast day, with a bit of a breeze too, going off the movement of the roses. Today a day like yesterday is planned, the morning spent in the garden and the afternoon in the workshop. In my location, I won’t see any of the flypast and as neither Sheila or I put the TV on until after we’ve had tea, the only bits I’ll see will be on the news this evening. Back later
