  1. It did, black 9s were carried up to December 1987 then changed, unknown as to why. If you want it as running in Cornwall, blue 9s it is 😎
  2. Yes, they foul the plough brackets otherwise.
  3. A couple of the local Teesside scrap workings, lots of loveliness here 😎 http://www.flickr.com/photos/johndedman/21732119098 http://www.flickr.com/photos/185822405@N04/49451319353
  4. Funniest Deltic I've ever seen, maybe its the prototype for the Dublo one. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/266084594887
  5. One of the BSOs also featured in the FGW Taunton/Weymouth/Paignton workings but, yes, the Fife Circle was their main employment after the charter use dried up. Some still survive in store at Fawley and Burton.
  6. Not quite, 50149's conversion was not related to this but as it was available, it was transferred to Cornwall to cover for 37670/71 after their prang at Tavistock Junction put them in Crewe Works for much of 1988.
  7. Railfreight General-liveried locos in normal traffic were 37104, 50149, 86502, 86602, 86613 and 86627 plus 08397, 08770, 08791, 08824 with cabside repeaters only. Also 37673 for evaluation purposes and 37403 and 60010 for calendar photoshoots.
  8. They featured in Thames sets and also the all first class Waterloo-Southampton boat train http://www.flickr.com/photos/tunnel_one/14766457102
  9. There's very little behind the hinged grilles at the No.2 end now, mostly just the frame for the air filters, which you can see in the pic as the grey verticals. At the No.1 end, the inner of the three grilles comes out as pictured, the top three-quarters or so, the bottom slats are welded in place. The two sets of moveable radiator slats alongside will come out as complete units but it's a monumental pain in the backside to do, even worse getting them back in!
  10. The original livery pair were the same.
  11. Severely under-utilised, cheaper to get rid and contract out the snow and ice treatment trains to GBRf.
  12. There were 50 extended end OBAs, 29 were still in use in 1991, those that remained thereafter finished or were rebuilt as PNAs in 1997.
  13. Yes, its a handy flat space on top of the filter frames. Its also a good place for the modern kit to go such as the OTMR recorder.
  14. If memory serves, GBRf used them on hire from Network Rail on the Broxbourne-based diagrams in autumn 2013. By the time DRS used them on the Stowmarket circuits in 2014, it was just 57306 left in yellow.
  15. Its the springs that are wrong on the Bachmann model, they should be parabolic, not leaf. Both S Kits and Stenson Models do the correct Bruninghaus type. CAIB3600-3749 were ex TTA underframes with Bruninghaus springs. CAIB3750-3849 were ex PCA or TUA with ESC or Gloucester pedestal suspension, foot longer wheelbase as well IIRC. When they were new, mixed rakes with other types certainly happened but later became all PNA formations.
  16. All six were transferred to Network Rail in September 2011, all but 57305 were repainted yellow by the end of the year, 57305 followed in February 2012. DRS took all six from July 2014, all had been repainted out of yellow by that December.
  17. Here's the relevant section of the pic at original scan size. The lower one is a version of the speed/load chart, top one is unreadable unfortunately.
  18. 69002 and 69003 are both out of traffic, covering for them.
  19. You mean not everyone can do that without looking? 😎
  20. In August they were as follows, not aware of any changes since. 180101 - 50901 54901 55901 56901 59903 180102 - 50902 54902 55902 56902 59902 180103 - 50912 54907 55906 56903 59905 (OOS at Ilford) 180104 - 50904 54904 55904 56904 59904 180105 - 50905 54905 55905 56905 59901 180106 - 50906 54906 55903 56906 59906 180107 - 50907 54903 55907 56907 59907 180108 - 50908 54908 55908 56908 59908 180112 - 50903 54912 55912 56912 59912 180114 - 50914 54914 55914 56914 59914
  21. My latest 116-page bookazine is on the way with release scheduled for October 27th. This month marks the 35th anniversary since the Railfreight sub-sectors were launched at Ripple Lane so this special is entirely dedicated to the triple grey livery and everything associated with it. Around two-thirds of the special is concerned with locos, including prototype details and a selection of modelling projects, while the remaining pages cover freight stock, again with some modelling and a selection of traffic profiles. Contributors include David Ratcliffe on the prototype side with models coming from Alex Carpenter and James Makin in particular along with Anthony Ainsley-Sutton, Terry Bendall, Brian Daniels, Timara Easter, Phil Eames and Paul Wade. It can be pre-ordered now from the Key website, which currently has a sale on using the discount code at the top of the page, or will be found in Smiths and selected supermarkets from next Thursday or thereabouts. https://shop.keypublishing.com/collections/modelling-specials/products/modelling-british-railways-modelling-railfreight Some page samples below
