  1. Aggregate Industries has recently sold the line to Network Rail.
  2. These were used as brake force runners in some of the Rail Adventure drags, not seen for some time so either replaced or repainted. There's four in this Hornsey drag for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P95rJovO0Bg
  3. Yes but three different types are needed to cover all those liveries accurately with different door and window layouts - LMS built, LMS conversion and BR built.
  4. Presumably its going to be a generic one size fits all tooling then or is Heljan really tooling up the three different types of saloon needed to correctly carry all those liveries?
  5. Glad everyone is enjoying the bookazine, the comments are much appreciated. Unfortunately a production error has been made on p.128 where the photo of the Dace has been replaced by a Zander. Not entirely sure how this happened as the correct image was in place when the page was proofed. The correct image is attached below for those that wish to see it, the text is unaffected. Apologies for the error, not best pleased myself!

  7. I would like to do a follow up covering the air-braked fleet and everything else that wouldn't fit in this one. I've got more than enough material to fill it but, as ever, it depends on how this one sells.
  8. With Andy's kind permission, a quick plug for my latest bookazine that will be out from next Wednesday, which will hopefully be of interest to quite a few and make a good stocking filler. This is Modelling BR Engineers' Wagons and is a 132-page mix of prototype information and modelling. There's over 200 prototype photos alone. many not previously published, along with modelling features, mostly in 4mm but with a 2mm project as well.. Contributors on the prototype side include Trevor Mann and David Ratcliffe with models coming from Terry Bendall, Mike Cubberley, Michael Hitchen, Mark Lambert, Alan Monk, Jim Smith-Wright, Hywel Thomas and Paul Wade. As it's a huge subject, the focus is on the unfitted and vacuum braked purpose-built fleets, so Starfish to Grampus, Trout to Stingray and Haddock to Salmon. Also includes special wagons and ex revenue transferred to departmental use and most of the 1980s vac-braked conversions/transfers, so likes of Turbot and Plaice to Barbel and Zander. Due to space constraints, air braked stock is not included or other departments such as S&T and M&EE but these may feature in the future.   11. I'd be surprised if a DROPS would be in gauge, never seen one on a Warwell. You can have Bedfords as long as the canvas and support hoops are removed.

  14. 59005 was the first repainted in April 1998. the first JHAs were done at the same time.
  15. 59001/2/4/5 received the revised Yeoman livery, only 59101 got the revised ARC livery before rebranded as Hanson.
  16. It will replace the existing station stabling point, allowing an increased level of maintenance and removing all the conflicting moves across the GEML. Fuel will also come in by road I believe so will be the end of the Lindsey working.
  17. 60054 was indeed the last, survived until 2011 when stopped for overhaul.
  18. The Southern did have an ex LMS saloon, TDM395280, but this was a conversion rather than purpose built, so had a number of differences in the door and window layout.   19. 550009-018 and 550020-060 were all registered as active in 1999 and 2002. The earliest ones were stood down when the first batch of WH Davis replacements were introduced and the Procor ones followed when the the second Davis batch arrived. As far as I know, they were all stored at MoD Longtown and then taken to Workington Docks one at a time by road for scrapping, the last went in August I believe.

  21. FL 66s again, started last night with 66507 and 66519. No 20s of any flavour this year.
  22. Yes, FOs were West Coast, BSOs were Cross Country.
  23. Staying with 'other' fluids, earlier diesels had a urinal in the engine room or bonnet. Having worked on two preserved Class 50s, the surrounding floor and other metalwork was always quite corroded. Then there's the small matter if using it, you would have had your back to the generator assembly a few feet away, never a good idea on a 50!
  24. All speculation, driver needs to get to Rhymney so easier/safer to take another loco rather than passenger service or taxi, 37175 maybe out of hours for exam, etc.
