  1. Never mind his layout, what about yours? It must be ready for refurbishment. Bring it to us as we have a new chainsaw we wish to try out! Happy new year to you and your long suffering good lady on behalf of the demotion refurbishment squad.
  2. My Morris Minor's handbrake only works on even days, for the odd days, you can hear me shouting "Chocks away!"
  3. I know a good barrister, well he says he's good, to fight your corner Ivan!
  4. Thank you for your interest. I think you should follow the same path as I, that would be the handiwork of "rembrow" in the Silver Fox Models postings. Now there's a fellow with more skill than I. I've cut up the supplied bogie sides and glued the third rail retractable collector shoes onto the modified Hornby frames. My loco will not have a smoke device but I seem to remember the 74's downfall was it's ability to catch fire. I will supply some photos however when it arrives back from the paint-shop of one "Rippers". (Anyone remember him?)
  5. Are you sure about this offer? I know it's Christmas but you could over do things. Could I have this suggestion in writing please. All the best to you Barry.
  6. Thank you young man for kindly works. By the way, I was only entitled to the address of "Your Worship" but those days are long gone now. A happy new year to you and yours. Bon chance mon aime.
  7. I must agree with JSpencer regarding pulling power and speed of the DJM Class 71 loco. Here is a video of one of Charlie Petty's test loco loaded to him for the fitting of one of his sound chips. I ran it around my Meopham East Junction layout in 2017 with 9 coaches behind it. The eagle eyed will spot at 15 seconds, another of Charles' Class 71's under the frail ling arms of ChrisH of this parish. I had a loco ordered myself but it arrived after the layout was sold. I am now working on a Hornby Class 71, converting it to a Class 74.
  8. Here's a photo I took in Roker, Sunderland in 2016. As you can see because they are VERY close to the sea, the salt in the air is playing havoc and they may not be there for very long.
  9. According to my facially copy of "Ian Allan" 1948, this loco was the only one of the class with "larger tanks". This was also the only one I didn't "cop". Keep up the good work Mick and thank you.
  10. Make sure you have a shovel, flask of tea, snow mats, blankets etc, etc, with you. A much better plan would be to watch/listen to the weather reports the night before and if the snow seems to be going to be bad, don't go!!
  11. Way back in 2007, I took my grown up youngest daughter to help me with my then layout "Brockley Green SE4" at an exhibition in Neumunster, northern Germany. On the Saturday evening we joined a Dutch couple and their two French friends, for food and a few beers in the local bar. As we entered the bar, I could help but notice a young lady with very long legs sitting on a high stool in the corner with a young man. A little later this young man was standing at our table and speaking to one of my Dutch friends in German. My grasp on said language is enough to order a beer only. There was much laughter and the man departed. I asked what had happened and was told he had asked if anyone wanted to use the services of his friend. I asked what was the cost and was told 20 euros. I asked my daughter if she had such an amount and she replied she would report back to mother! She did but not quick enough,I got there first.
  12. Happy birthday young man, do be careful with the candles on your cake, still at only 70, you should be alight alright.
  13. Your baseboards are now as ready as I can make them Peter, they are ready for any alterations you may require. My assistant (Tappa) and I are ready also to give you a rundown on the use of the z21 system. Well he is.
  14. Taking an R.A.F. expression, "Any landing parking you can walk away from is a good landing parking."
  15. They were all next door outside the rear of the Holderness Road Corporation tram, then trolley and finally bus depot. The dog racing was sometime to behold I understand at Craven Dark.
  16. Did I mention free TV licences for over 75 year olds? Well the notification for next years DD payments dropped through our letter box this very morning and in the spirit of a true Yorkshire man*, I went on their website and informed them of my birthday. I will receive an answer in 21 working days (two in December, two in January and the rest in March) * I was born in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire due to wartime evacuations, of good Hull parents but to quote the Duke of Wellington when he was labeled Irish because he born there of English parents, "If I had been born in a stable, it would not have made me a horse!" I am English!! Thanks to all those who send me "likes"
  17. Happy days are here again, it's the 24th and it's my birthday. The only trouble is, I'm now 75 and I could do to be 25! No chance there then and the prospect of a free TV licence is a small reward. I shall have a good day and I trust everyone here will have one also.
  18. AC Models of Eastleigh (no connection what so ever) have a 350/1 on E-Bay right now for £189.95
  19. Regarding Garden Villages, so as not to be left out, Hull has had such a thing since 1908. This link will take you there. If memory serves, there isn't a pub on site. Memory, parh, I can remember what I did in 1962 but yesterday, not a chance! I suppose it's old age after all I will be 75 on the 24th. That's if I get that far! I've just found the wife dusting insurance documents. Can't stop, I'm off to hide in my "shed".
  20. I have always used real coal because, to me it looks like model coal. When I moved into my present address, I realisted it was all gas heated and I had not brought any coal from my last address. One of my new neighbours stopped to say hello (we do that here in Yorkshire) and I took the opportunity to ask him for a lump of coal. "Bring a bucket over" he said, "I realise you maybe a little hard up with the cost of moving etc". I explained why I wanted just a lump but He still tried to give me a bucket full!
  21. I've had a look at Google Earth for the view as shewn by Mike's picture of the track work into 7 section adjacent to Montague Meyer's wood yard is but a memory, in that area, now a part of a "trading estate".There is nothing to be seen,. The only rails in the area, are those coming under the Hessle Road flyover, and climbing up to "Tin can" bridge. That only remains because it crosses over the other example of track in the area, with the access to Tarmac's depot, adjacent to Dairycoates loco shed. That involves three points only and could be out of use now. Regarding poor old Dairycoates East box, it could not even die gracefully. I was desperate for a job in the sixes at one point and a friend got me in at the North Eastern Gas Board. They readily employed me when they discovered my digging skills gained with the S & T dept. The gang I was with was sent to find a leak, around the heap of bricks that was the remains of the said box. There was indeed a very strong smell of gas and after some very careful digging, we exposed a battered meter which had been forgotten, buried! We had to cut it off, make it safe and report back.
  22. You will find an original "Silver Fox" in the N.R.M. at York.
  23. Unfortunately the only time I saw that particular locomotive, it was not so elegant. I understand it had been providing steam to a local business.
