  1. I've gone for one in USA Army livery =) It'll be suitable even if I'm having a post-war day on the layout https://mikemorant.smugmug.com/Trains-Railways-British-Isles/SR-and-BRS/SR-tank-engines/i-RXjFxfV
  2. I better make a decision! (I am SO indecisive)
  3. They've all just been price dropped to £105, might finally get myself a USA Army one =)
  4. I didn't think I was fussed about a malachite one, I was after a wartime black one, but now I've seen a malachite one, I want a malachite one! Sure it's a high end priced model but my word does it perform! Whatever Bachmann did with the mechanisms, they got it spot on! It never derails or stalls, ever. (Speaking as someone who has frequent derailment issues with many modern spec models, I know why, one day I will treat myself to track that isn't older than me)
  5. Is that Beattie in lined black with sunshine lettering ? I didn't realise that livery combination was a thing?
  6. There are a couple of curves on my layout where the Rails Terrier derails exclusively, which is disappointing. You'd have thought an 0-6-0 would be pretty reliable in that respect, meanwhile Bachmann's H2 manages to tackle pretty much any track thrown at it which was pleasantly surprising!
  7. I get a lot of Southern vibes from the carriages which is good for me, as said previously ,being in a grouping or post-grouping livery the carriages could be from anywhere =)
  8. There's the real 2644, if you blackened Rails' one with some coal dust it'd probably look a very similar colour https://www.flickr.com/photos/swift-valley/4168843093/in/set-72157622769148804
  9. It always puzzled me why Bachmann's 473 was SO much darker than the real 473. I agree Hornby's Green with Bachmann's yellow would be ideal. I think it was in the Hornby H thread ( I can't really remember) I took some photos comparing all the different SR Greens in different lighting on my layout, direct sunlight and shade make huge differences. Be interested to see if the D comes out in the same shade as Rails Terrier or if they go more olive.
  10. Worth pointing out the shades of green change dramatically in different lighting. There is a colour photo of the real 2644 looking a sort of dark malachite colour. Edit: The shade of Rails' looks different in every photo I take Edit 2: will be interested to see the final shade the SR D Class comes out in.
  11. Quick review, here's some comparison shots against Hornby 's Some videos from my twitter, straight out the box running fine! Not handling some track as well as Hornby's which is disappointing ... And this was just for fun! Do I think it's worth the extra money? Eh not really, I think Rails over sold it, but do I love both models? Absolutely. I'll continue to buy Southern variants from both, who's gonna give me a wartime black one first? edit: I think Hornby's with some of Rails' details applied would be the ultimate Terrier.
  12. Picked mine up today, good news is it all appears to be intact, bad news is it appears to be drooping a little front left and back right but can't really notice from afar. I'll be honest if it wasn't pointed out on the first batch I wouldn't have looked out for it or noticed probably. :p I'll give it a test on the layout this evening =)
  13. Interesting to see how light effects the livery, the Southern lettering and number look totally different shades of yellow in the above 2 examples. Picking mine up from the post office tomorrow =D will be heading over to the parents' to give it a test.
  14. Also I'm sure it's been picked up but just incase, the number on the buffer beam of 1730 appears to be in white instead of yellow.
  15. The sunshine lettering looks a bit thick, particularly the numbers but perhaps it's just the angle? As has been stated, they very obviously managed to stick the wrong green on the SR one. I presumed it'll be the same shade as the SR Terrier? Edit: it does look sexy in wartime black though.
  16. Perhaps, and I suspect your comment is with tongue firmly in cheek, but really it's sloppy for what is supposed to be a "pedigree" model... Not Rails fault of course, if I commissioned a premium model and it came out of the factory looking like that I'd be a bit cross. If the buyer above is happy then fair enough. I'm hoping, as one of the last to arrive, the SR ones will be better quality.
  17. Looks like a few blips and smears in the paintwork there...? Edit: perhaps it's just the photos but it almost looks hand painted...
  18. Just a shout out for the SR versions, they look great! A couple of brakes and a tool van will come in useful for military and department operations. =)
  19. More 0-6-0 Austeritys! Holding out hope for one in WW2 condition from someone eventually! I thought that NCB version was some children's toy version before I saw photos of the real thing... Wow.
  20. I can't imagine they're in production just yet as they haven't even had decorated samples yet?
  21. Seeing these CADs has definitely increased my interest, will watch with interest. The SR department ones & breaks might be useful in military trains or with my breakdown crane =)
