  1. Sunshine BR A1x but not SR , why though? So near yet so far :p I know it's an easy relivery but I'll keep waiting :p
  2. Sooo these one are accurate and not generic?
  3. That "would sell like hot cakes " assumption is one of my biggest bug bears on this forum, along with "X model is a no brainer" And "The vast majority of modellers/adults over X age/ young people ..." Etc
  4. Yes, I don't quite understand why diesel & electric modellers are so derogatory towards steam engines...? Big talk for fans of oblongs on wheels. For as long as there is interest in history, there will be interest in steam engines.
  5. I agree with the thoughts that kids / teens may get most of their interaction with railways at preserved railways, certainly I did. My interest in steam engines comes from growing up with Thomas and countless trips to the Bluebell Railway, a couple years volunteering there too when I was a young teen. Happy memories =)
  6. There were just 3 Adams radials in 1955 being used on a very specific branch line, didn't stop Hornby AND Oxford Rail doing them... You know what really grinds my gears? When a suggestions gets poo-pooed because a class didn't even last into the BR period... Balls to the BR era I say :p It never seems to be applied in reverse though, 9Fs for example, pretty limited life span outside of preservation, and yet...
  7. Awesome to see a Terrier in wartime black! Might encourage Hornby or Rails
  8. Finally got a chance to run it over Christmas , here it is straight out the box, really impressed with it ! Couldn't be bothered to dig out the warwells so it's on breakdown duty Video on link to tweet , sometimes it auto embeds sometimes it doesn't https://twitter.com/GreenGiraffe22/status/1343145313956196354?s=19
  9. I've forced myself to just get over the price of model railways now, if it's something I really want, I'll fork out, if it's something that would be nice to have at the right price I'll wait, My Hornby S15 for example, nabbed at £75!
  10. A small loco for today's small end to end layout and a nice follow on from the A1 could be an LBSCR D1 =) Better still, a D1 Motor Train pack! =D https://mikemorant.smugmug.com/Trains-Railways-British-Isles/SR-and-BRS/LBSCR-tank-engines/i-z8MJ432
  11. Gladstone would be a very Rails of Sheffield loco to do.
  12. It was a reference to several assumptions being made here. My view is, and I may be wrong, it may be less to do with age and more to do with what's easily available. Perhaps there are less pre grouping modellers because there just hasn't been the RTR stock to make it a feasible layout option? But that's starting to change. I think, 'build it and they will come'. Could it be that BR eras are so frequently modelled because the RTR is flooded with it making it easily doable? Just a thought. Certainly there are times when I've thought it would have been much easier for me to model 1962 over 1942 but I've always been fascinated by the war years.
  13. Oh I'd also like an LBSCR I3, Seen several photos of those in my area , I know Model Railway Works had a go but they were super expensive and they didn't make many, I don't think there'd be much harm in Hornby having a go?
  14. Just a side note, because I see the assumption rearing its ugly head again, we don't all model what we grew up with / what we remember / what we see now*. I'm modelling an era 50 years before I was born =) *Edit: The argument has been done to death on this forum.
  15. I actually had the same thoughts about modern image, between all the RTR manufacturers is there that much left to do? Genuine question, I have not much interest in railways post 1947 let alone the current scene, so I don't know the extent of what is used these days. Fairly sure there's still hundreds if not thousands(?) Of steam era prototypes to be done
  16. Models in wartime black often end up in the bargain bins which is where I snap them up =D The most frustrating thing for me modelling the war years is how poorly documented it is photographically because of wartime restrictions, I usually have to go by photos of a few years before or after to get some prototype ideas. But on the flip side, because it's so poorly documented it does give you some artistic licence to run more unusual things in unlikely locations using the war as an excuse! For example, my Merchant Navy was absolutely needed to take troop trains along the Sussex coast
  17. A wartime black A1x please And any ex pre-prouping southern carriages I can use along the south coast, I've seen lots of 1937 era photos of E4s & H2s pulling ex LSWR 3 sets between Brighton & Portsmouth
  18. I'll probably get one or two for my 1943ish layout =)
  19. I had issues with both my Ps, one got 'repaired' but still wasn't fantastic after and the other was replaced because it was irreparable, the replacement is better but they're still both quite disappointing performance wise for modern spec RTR, I don't live with my layout anymore so most of my collection is living in boxes now aside from a few favourites I kept on the layout for when I visit it, I'm sure I'll have a look at them both again one day, they both had quite a bit of paint on the wheels I had to clean off.
  20. I'd have thought people interested in modelling / collecting the SECR would prefer to have the real thing over generic carriages, I've held off pre ordering any of Hatton's just in case any genuine LBSC / SECR stock emerges
  21. Someone I know claims they know the person who took the photo, confirming an SECR 3 Edit: presumably one of these https://images.app.goo.gl/MtDAhom2ar9aaxuD6
  22. The 2 seems particularly deliberate with the surrounding lettering cropped out to not give too much away. I could be putting 2+2 together (no pun intended) and getting 5 but it's a very specific 2 to use of all the 2s available in the railway world.
  23. For those who aren't on Facebook, make of it what you want!
  24. So yesterday the Facebook page hinted an SECR 3rd class carriage, today is a no.2 plate which I've googled and googled and googled and think it might belong to this ? http://www.ossettweather.com/steam/page66.html Of course we don't know if Rapido are using genetic railway numbers or if they're actually hints!
  25. arrived already in less than 24 hours! 10/10
