  1. My word that is a particularly elegant looking machine in Southern olive! I think my H2's moment in the spotlight is about to come to an end. Apologies in advanced to all my locos for feeling neglected while my Southern pair get all the running attention, what stunning looking models!
  2. I don't even need the one I have let alone two but man does it look sexy in wartime black...! In my model world they operated expresses between Brighton and Plymouth :p
  3. There's something very pleasing about small tank engines. I have 2 A1x, 2 P Class, a B4 and a USA Dock Tank and I suppose although not tank engines , my pair of C Class could used as shunters too. The layout has a very small yard, half of which isn't wired up to use, it's just scenic stock storage... I don't live with my layout anymore so it's really just become a test bed to run in new stock My initial theme went partly out the window a long time ago, I am at peace with being an out right Southern collector, more Southern tank engines would be most welcome.
  4. I was dreading my H2 not being able to run on my worn out layout with knackered points and far less than perfectly laid track as is the problem with many modern spec locos but it out performs almost everything! Whatever Bachmann did with this loco, they got it SO right! It manages tighter track than Hatton's P Class...
  5. This arrived today, it looks the part to my untrained eye, certainly sufficiently Brightonian, it's going to be a department carriage for my breakdown crane. pairing a £200 accurate model with a £30 "generic" support carriage is a little amusing to me but it'll do for now! Will probably add the Hatton's Southern Tool van to the train as and when. Perhaps even a repaint to department grey, that or I'll weather it so much the colour underneath will be irrelevant. Edit: the moulded lamp irons look a little phallic...
  6. I have noticed the order hasn't yet deducted the £30 deposit off the RRP, I assume that'll auto deduct when it comes to paying, I can't remember how it worked when I had a Terrier on pre order
  7. That could be the most anticlimactic announcement yet!
  8. Apparently several were sent to Scotland in wartime so , something for the under represented Scottish modellers :p
  9. I must admit I wasn't even aware the film existed untill last year... (Please don't lynch me) The Railway Children has always been my go to Railway film, heart warming to the core! (Excellent live on stage at Waterloo too)
  10. I'm going to have to watch the film just to see what the hype is all about and to get all the references that are currently going over my head!
  11. And, most noteworthy to me, a duplication of a steam locomotive that didn't make it into 'holy' BR livery, thus "limiting the tooling potential blah blah blah" who'd have thunk it?
  12. We all understand Hornby is a profit seeking business but I agree my opinion of Hornby is becoming a little tainted with these increasing occurrences. Edit: now if someone could just let slip to Hornby that a LBSCR D1 is being planned that'd be great
  13. I'm not remotely familiar with the film, I've never seen it, but I love that you have the exclusive rights. I wish you every success with this project, big up the smaller companies!
  14. With the A1 and now this, building a small (if one can really go small in 0 Gauge) SR shunting plank is quite tempting...
  15. Lately, if something, be it loco, carriage or wagon , made it into SR livery, chances are I'll purchase it regardless of whether said piece of rolling stock actually made it to the Sussex coast or not :p
  16. It was one of those models that's been sitting on my "nice to have if the price is right" list for a while. I don't need one but I've accepted the fact I've become an outright Southern collector, my original Hove ish layout theme has gone out the window somewhat. Although I did see a photo of one at Brighton , presumably it went through Hove to get there... Edit: link to photo
  17. Hatton's bargain price is what I've been waiting for =) Unfortunately it won't be able to make it to the layout till lockdown rules are lifted
  18. It was my understanding Hornby deal directly with their own factories, do they not? As far as I'm aware all Rails products have been made by a third party - Dapol, Bachmann, Rapido etc
  19. Firstly, Hornby Steam Punk has gotta be a joke entry, right? Did make me chuckle when I saw it against the other items in that category Secondly, I notice Rails of Sheffield are up for 2 manufacturing awards even though they out source all their manufacturing to other model railway companies...?
  20. I have made the case for the LBSCR Stroudley D1 , the more I researched them to fill out the form the more I fell in love with them! It's a real shame none survive.
  21. I didn't know such a thing existed! Far too modern anyway :p on the topic of £300 hmmm depends entirely on the model subject I suppose , I never thought I'd fork out £200 for a breakdown crane but I did... I don't know if I'd be prepared to part with £300 for something like that even if I was interested, trying to think of a comparison I am interested in, ok Rails of Sheffield D Classes are predicted to come in at around £200 each and that's sort of testing my limits I think... Would I be prepared to pay £300 for one? I don't know. Certainly it'd probably reduce my order from two to one.
  22. Didn't Dapol have to close their factory down for a bit I'm sure I saw on Facebook?
  23. I got torn to shreds on this forum a couple of years ago for using a hammer! Perhaps it was fine all along
