  1. They'll be looking at RTT to see what time the train is due.... A bit like looking at a weather nowcast instead of just looking out of the window....
  2. The match wagon is still available https://www.themodelcentre.com/377-343-11
  3. Am I right in thinking that the revised bodyshell will have the original cantrail grilles? Something which basically precludes the privatisation liveries. To me, it was the biggest fault with the original early livery models. I would hope though that the tooling can cater for both this time....
  4. Who has nicked the table? Just imagine how that would look if done today, a mass of fencing and warning signs... If you look at this site which details some of the transition work at OC in the 60s https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=191&t=1920564 I think you can easily believe what you want to do is well within the realms of prototypical possibility...
  5. Have you thought of using cabinet joiners? https://www.djmdirect.co.uk/products/hafele-m6-connecting-screw-wood-furniture-bolt-4-pack You might need to find slightly longer screws, but I find they are good because they allow you to locate quite easily, then pull up tight. And initial fitting can be just a case of drilling through the lot and fitting them with the screw on the easier to get to side. Providing you drill the hole the right size, the female side is captive in the timber.
  6. Not much time for trains this week, but a family BBQ required a bit of running. Funny how the oldest two grandchildren are less enthusiastic now, whereas the middle two get quite excited to see the trains running. The youngest two are still just too young.... Control panel gone through a bit of a relabel Class 60 on petroleum tanks entering the yard. 60054 needs backdating to the old style of OHLE warning flashes, and some light weathering as it would have been very new.....
  7. Just looking through Longworth and there are 35 different diagrams of Mk1 catering vehicles. There were also RSO, RUO, RE, RG, RF, RFB, RKB, RB(K) and then a whole load of ROYs for the Royal Trains... So yes, a minefield....
  8. I used the Bachmann offering but for the 70s onwards, well actually 2 of them plus a cut down low relief signal box to add some extra space for the likes of office and messroom areas. I think that if you deem it to be a servicing shed rather than stabling point, it is perfectly acceptable. The main thing I think you need to do on the Scalescenes model, is to back date the signage quite a bit. The structure itself is good, but alot of the warning signs are way too modern. Look at the servicing shed at OC even in the 80s, and you'll find the signage looking more from the era you are looking at, none of the more modern warning symbols, but more of the raised letter style boards.
  9. I'd go for 500 in banger blue in full royal bulled up finish, but surely we need some 47/3s, the non-boiler fitted freight staple on MGR and Freightliners in the earlier days. Them and where are the Stratford grey roof versions that got everywhere? I had to resort to a 47/7 de-conversion to get this one...
  10. I think it is a case that in the first shot, the leading wagon is the non-rotating coupling - draw gear fitted one. The Scunthorpe wagons were painted grey at the fixed coupling ends, with orange signifying the rotary end. So, each rake had a grey/grey at one end, and orange/grey at the other, with all intermediate wagons being orange/grey. The leading wagon (26100) has fixed couplings, the next (26034) has the rotary coupling at the far end, and so on down the whole train...
  11. Nope, I've already got one... Suppose I could add IKB or GJC to go with GW though
  12. Yesterdays weather played a part in getting more wiring sorted, which of course means running trains in all manner of route combinations. Relabelled most of the control panel too, but here are a few shots around the yard... And a birds eye view looking north....
  13. Its probably because there are two skew bridges in close proximity, with a three way junction on the right, one road being the A607 to/from Melton Mowbray. These days it is a four way junction on the town side... https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=16.0&lat=52.90961&lon=-0.64641&layers=193&right=ESRIWorld
  14. Some pics of the Boston traffic in 2008-10, note the one via Lincoln Dec 2008 which may have been to Immingham, although it may have run via The Joint to Sleaford. Mainly Colas, but 56303 when it first got DCR green also put in an appearance. Usual loaded to 20 IHAs... 47749 and 727 Heckington - June 2010 56312 Lincoln Dec 2008 47727 and 749 Sleaford - July 2010 56303 Sleaford - Aug 2009 56312 Sleaford - May 2009 66842 Sleaford - July 2010
  15. I borrow this one from work when I need it https://colour-laser-printers.co.uk/printer/PT7600VPZU1/PT-7600 .php It does several tape widths and colours in a durable laminate. It has got alot of characters/symbols etc. and does multi-row (or column) along with the usual array of font styles. Mainly use black on white, yellow or clear. Not cheap, but effective...
  16. Quick, cut it, glue it and screw it as you want it. This modern stuff they call timber has a mind of its own, and will bend and twist while you're not looking...
  17. The Great British Summer has allowed a little extra time for on-going works. Middle baseboards split to dress the ends of those rails making contact over the gap which was negating the isolation sections. Then added a few extra switches to the control panel meaning I've got to re-label some, and I left a couple of spares that can be wired in later if deemed necessary. Oh, and of course, all that requires a bit of testing, meaning a little playing with the trains too.... 47209 with a rake of Polybulks crossing over from the down line into the yard.
  18. Ah, I see you've left enough room to make it double track, but plonking that signal in the grass like that with it obscured by that tree might get you in trouble with the signal sighting committee...
  19. You're a couple of days early posting these. It was 50 years ago that the last BR train left the line this week....
  20. Looking on my monitor, I would say somewhere between the two might just be nearer the true colour. I think C11794 looks a bit yellow, especially the greys, but the sea looks right. J9853 the sea looks too blue, a bit like on a postcard, but the greys of the hoppers look better. But then I bet if you printed them they would look different again.... Doh...
  21. Two cracking photos with excellent composition and lighting.....
  22. Pity it isn't still open, because if I visited Aberlour I would need some other form of onward transport. One of my favourite Speyside tipples...
  23. Its this image that is in question. The 86/2 sub-class had flexi-coil springing like the 87s.
  24. RAF Waddington - A15, and RAF Cranwell - minor road, both have wig-wags. Have been stopped for the BBMF Dakota doing touch and gos, and also a pair of F15s at Waddington, they got past 30k feet before the lights went out....
