  4. was that blue tack on the points blades before spraying? (if so good idea)
  5. oneof those yellow things came through maidstone the other day and a friend of mine grabed some shots. (not being a modern loco person, i asume mantance train) oh and PS nice layout his text was Colas 37 521 passes Maidstone East on 3Z05 10:08 Dollands Moor Sdgs to Derby R.T.C. (Network Rail) on Saturday 2nd February, at 10:42.
  6. ok after ply wood glue dried.. a few cut down coffe stirrers (thnks costa alot coffe).... glued in place and 2 bits of plastikard brick work. then rolled out some clay to about 1mm, painted wood with pva and added clay (and smoothed out with water and old steel ruller.. after dried printed windows, and sanded flatter i thnk it looks ok.. next need to hover as made a mess... and borrow wifes sharpies to make some leaded glass.. oo and a roof
  7. So update... my finger hurts from cuttiing plastic and wood so i have been working on the canal end of layout where a yard track will be feed from station up a incline past some gates (considering servo's for those ) and into the wharf yard. you may remeber i posted a skectch of yard office and old "queen anne" 17th century pub Drawn up in autocad, and windows made 3d and printed.. we start with the yard office (the overhang will have wodden beams supporting it, and old fireplace probably for selling food from, but now for storage of barels and stuff. mock up v model and a quick check to see it in place (near incline, pavement will be level and railings + steps etc.. So next onto Pub.. this being very old will have some harry potter diagona ally style bay windows, another overhang with ornate posts. and new sash wndows from a latter referb/upgrade of facade. this is ply as wll be coated in air dry clay to get render finish, and in places the render will have failed and expose brickwork.. but first wood glue needs to dry nothing is straight here as its old pub..
  8. Could be air dry clay.. that's what I used
  9. that works (but double check everything before you cut ... measure twice cut once ) : )
  10. WOW on that bridge... 1: love the pipe bodged to side 2: that brickwork under is easy to replicate (i saw someone do that with T beams and rolled plasticard for brickwork.. will try and find it on inet .. and if not draw a diagram 3: and can see the PAD stones supporting the steel work.. its like this one... but full width.. the brickwork is slatters plastikard which is easy to bend (aka bend over a coffe cup hold with elastic bands and pour hot water over it, (its a thermal plastic) so when cool retains curve, and the T beams help hold it in place
  11. thanks orderd... so fingures crossed its the same..
  12. lol.. we all walk blindly past stuff we have seen a thousnd times i googled Wolverhampton Low Level. and see that very distinct blue brick sand stone building's etc.. and i love the valance (can't beat it for that old station look, on the canopies)
  13. bob that's a good atmospheric pic.. and i can see that working there well...
  14. Hi.. I think that looks ok. And if you put false beams under there as well they will be visable on lower perspective photos. What's the landscape your thinking around it. Urban, rural .. ? I like to think about the landscape before the railway came. Aka lay of the land as the road could have been there first and thus hieght A image says a thousand words. And thought I would sketch what I ment ..
  15. copyright should be about 70years ish https://www.copyrightaid.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1770 so most should be ok.. and anyway they get free (small) advertising.. or just google fake ones. i like to put one or two silly inkeeping ones, to catch people out. like https://scarfolk.blogspot.com/ but older for my layout )
  16. ooo isn't that a beautiful thing i hope its on show and not hidden in a box
  17. dont forget clockwork is allways a option.. i say use what you know and and you want, after all its all about FUN both work both have plus points etc.. (cost is one)
  18. yep i get what you meen. so two largeish wooden blocks, with a thin 3mm ply road bed going over top. (it might be good to put a small inlcine on boad edge so the bridge is the apex of the hill as it hits back wall, makes backdrops easyer and adds alittle extra 3d look few roads are level. then this should make gluing sides on etc, and sturdy. the ply road bed would probably be level with top of steel girder, and then we need to look at pad stones, and expansion plates etc and how the underside, and ends would look etc. most are beam and blocks or brick infill which can be made with strips of styrene etc. a good point of ref on the subject of underside is https://www.newrailwaymodellers.co.uk/Forums/viewtopic.php?t=16973&start=150 any help ?
  19. oooh thats nice i take it you have enough for both sides ? and thus its more about the supporting back structure and road bed and underside detail ?
  20. thanks.. i bought a 3d printer to speed up makeing windows, as that terace house made my fingers hurt (each window was 3 seperate layers of plasticard, to get the lower sash window in a bit, in that typical familur way), But the bloady thing slowed me down as i keep adding more detail and stuff. Its not good enough for all things as only cheap chiness crap bodged, modified and repaired kit printer, but if i work/draw to its limits its ok I kind of grew up around drawing, and worked as a draftman since 14 years old (pen and tracing paper), taught by a very old school draftman (who i admired for the detail) he taught me to draw like the old school plans we all see, and i love them. proper drawings. see "sir banister history of architecture" my copy is falling apart The resin boat is a printed version (i think) but was bought for a xmas present from my brother, its really nice I need a company name for the ware house was thinking "Barge Poll Carryings" "you buy it we move it".. but not 100% sure yet
  21. can you pop a full photo of one, with a ruler to side so i can see what they look like etc.. ( and stone pattern etc)
