  1. The Quirky Poll 2021 Hello everyone, Welcome to the third annual Quirky Poll that we run in conjunction with our friends Andy York & Phil Parker of RMweb. Many of you found these Polls to be just what we intended… ‘a little bit of Christmas fun’! You will find below a list of 25 items – some of which are your suggestions from 2020 – each with a link to a photo and/or further detail. We haven’t listed certain suggestions as models are actually available – albeit from overseas makers. You may tick as many items as you like, but – although this is ‘Christmas fun’ – they must be items that you would realistically wish to buy if they were ever made (as you used to do with The 00 Wishlist Poll) – it is not to decide ‘the quirkiest’. The Top Item of the 2019 Quirky Poll – Stephenson’s Rocket – has been announced as have the Top Two of the 2020 Poll – Bellerophon and Titfield Thunderbolt. In respect of the latter, we asked you to vote for ‘the full train’ and Rapido has announced that they will making five items! Will you be able to pick some more winners this year? OK…stop working and get quirking! You have until 18.00 on Thursday 30 December 2021 to vote. We aim to publish the results in the usual Poll Team format as soon as we can on 1 January 2022 – look for the title: Results – The Quirky Poll 2021. Merry Christmas and a Safe & Happy New Year to you all! The Poll Team Robert Carroll, Chris Knowles-Thomas, John Lewis, Jeff Lynn, Brian Macdermott, Nick Stanbury & Ian Taylor Below is ‘The Guide’ to the 25 items – access to the actual Poll is here https://forms.gle/uz1kWGR3FsQFrVKF9 Aveling & Porter Loco Certainly unusual with a ‘quirky charm’! http://www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/bluebell/pics/blue_circle.html B17 Streamlined A missing link from the streamlined era. https://transportsofdelight.smugmug.com/RAILWAYS/LOCOMOTIVES-OF-THE-LONDON-NORTH-EASTERN-RAILWAY/LOCOMOTIVES-OF-LNER-ORIGIN/i-PpDtr7T/ BR Nos.15097-15099 (Originally LNER Simplex Z6 Class, later Y11) A small yard shunter. 3. That's it in a nutshell. The models have been produced (I can see the date in the box when they were packaged) and have been shipped. I know they're on the way but there's a combination of longer journeys, ships leapfrogging each other in journeys (as they may be stopping off at additional interim points due to changed schedules) and then end up in a different final port than intended with further onward shipment. Importers are constantly getting revised dates on shipments. Then they probably all arrive around the same time and need processing and checking before onward fulfilment of orders. The whole process is a minefield at the moment and all anyone wants to do is get the models into the hands of customers just as much as the customers want to see them. Hopefully everyone can just take a breath and accept they'll be with everyone as soon as they can be.
  4. He held the name back so as to minimise people running round with torches and pitchforks whilst suggesting caution. The whole thing could have been avoided if the trader had replied within a reasonable time.
  5. I was there to enjoy the team's coming of age at Silverstone in 79 with Alan Jones on pole, Regga taking the win. Had an affinity for them from that point with the team providing so many historical moments in the sport. A team founded around one man's doggedness and determination. I think anyone else would have retired after his crash.
  6. Or purchased on the open market to add sound and sell as a completed item with their margin derived from the additional product/work.
  7. Will you be asking (via PA) passengers to comply with regulations for the benefit of all?
  8. We found the same when lockdowns started. We were able to book Click & Collect slots with Tesco and accepted that. The delivery slots were always booked up but I worked out that you could book a date 3 weeks ahead if I went on just after midnight when the next date was released. That was a pain at times so I thought I'd try the Tesco Delivery Saver which enabled one to book dates a further week ahead, that extra week ahead had a lot more availability. It's £7.99 a month but if you're having weekly deliveries it generally works out cheaper. When I book a date I just put some milk in the basket and checkout, you can make changes up to late the night before delivery. Just in case that's helpful to anyone that would like to get deliveries booked over the winter or if this gets worse. You've no chance of getting dates close to Christmas, those got taken up as soon as they were released. Because I was an hour late getting onto it we could only get a Click & Collect for the 23rd (just because we're in a Thursday habit).
  9. Things have been left to the common sense of the Great British Public before so I'm sure we'll be fine. We'll see what Dr. Brown Bear advised him last weekend.
  10. Have you read what's been said and what's coming?
  11. I think you're a thousand miles from knowing what you want. Spend some time looking what others have achieved and pick some elements you like; they've all learned what works and what doesn't. Look at Harlequin's plans on here and/or buy a digital book of plans e.g. https://pocketmags.com/british-railway-modelling-magazine/the-brm-guide-to-trackplans-and-layout-design
  12. Love the title Giles! I'm sure this will be the 'must have' work for anyone at least curious about RC potential and very useful for anyone wanting to have a go.
  13. If that is borne out as it spreads then it would look like many anti-vax, complacent and indifferent may come to regret their position, and quite quickly. No vaccination programme is going to get them from zero to double-jabbed with effective antibody levels quick enough. Adapted vaccines and their first world Vs developing nations availability is likely to come to the fore again. who is more deserving of schemes and treatment; an enlightened antivaxxer or an isolated area in a developing country? The no-one is safe until everyone is safe mantra hasn't been heard for a while but I think it will be back soon.
  14. It's an ongoing problem I'm trying to get to the bottom of. It only affects some users and I've not been able to reproduce it at this end.
  15. Keep your eyes open for an interview in our Virtual Show next weekend which may give further clues for consideration.
  16. That's true but I was thinking of different approaches too such as anti-viral oral or nasal treatments posited.
  17. I don't recall reading about any changes to the existing vaccines for the Delta variant; it just seems that they were slightly less effective against it but worth continuing. This new one obviously means that changes or adaptation need to be made; that takes time. One can only hope that when it does appear here that everyone can take it seriously and exercise caution and take precautions; I fear that will be very difficult given societal changes that have taken place since July.
  18. That's incorrect - https://www.statista.com/statistics/1105363/coronavirus-covid-19-infection-rate-by-federal-state-per-100000-people-germany/ I'm afraid you make too many erroneous statements in this topic.
  19. Noted. Tread carefully then.
  20. Were you asked to login here https://www.world-of-railways.co.uk/account/login?ref=%2Fmy-account%2Fmy-membership%2F Ian? That should then tie everything together so you get the additional items here.
  21. It's the same 'grey' as seen on their Mk2f, not seen any grumbles about that. I discussed this with David Haarhaus yesterday. He explains more in the video which will be in our virtual show on 4/5 December.
