  3. I've said nothing of the sort.
  4. Already addressed in the topic as a fallacy. And please don't use 'u'; we're not an SMS or Twitter.
  5. Such tarts! They always told me I was their one and only!

  7. New tooling Black Five It’s nearly fifty years since a Black Five first entered Hornby’s range with their Silver Seal model in 1973 which gave reliable service for many years. Looking back now it wasn’t the most accurate of models but their re-launched model of 2002 was a big improvement. Twenty years on Hornby are now revisiting the widespread maid-of-all-work to produce one of their highest specification models making the “Ultimate Black Five” to quote Simon Kohler’s briefing. It will be completely new tooling throughout including features and details not seen before on previous models allowing for many variants including Walschaerts and Caprotti valve gear (and a promise of Stephenson’s gear at a future point) with a new close-coupling locomotive to tender coupling, flickering firebox lights, painted driver and fireman and working lamps which will utilise the 21-pin decoder socket – something long overdue from Hornby. One of the models will feature Hornby’s new steam generator and sound; at our briefing this model showed an RRP of £249.99 which means for the £20 premium that it will be the pick of the bunch. The initial launch models will be of 5200 in LMS lined black livery, 45157 Glasgow Highlander in lined early BR crest (one of the few named), 44726 with steam generator and 44755 with Caprotti gear as a web exclusive. 8. As soon as the name (which is a trademark) is used, irrespective of age or variation, a percentage will be payable if a licence is granted. And on more tat than you can shake a stick at...
  9. Comparing new and old on the 47, and indeed the 20 I'm writing up at the moment, if you look closely you can see better definition and detail as well as the technical features and functions. Performance is roughly the same. The important caveat is that the old models don't look out of place beside the new ones so I feel users will add to their stable rather than replace them.
  10. Oh go on then... It's definitely different; we'll see who's been fed a line next week then. Wonder if the inside's different too?
  11. I can't find anything on Hornby's Facebook page and it looked like it could have been made up. It doesn't correlate with the cover image of the 2022 catalogue which I have seen. And, no, I'm not going to show that to illustrate the point.
  12. It was the reference to another event that's not public information.
  13. You need 'Unlisted' rather than 'Private'. Private will only show to the account holder.

Pity we don't hear more of Janet Guthrie who not only competed in Indy 500 but finished ahead of Mario Andretti

Ah yes, those were the days, when group B rally cars would literally dig boulders out of the Kielder Forest tracks, and launch them at you!

A spectacle and sound to behold, especially the distinctive exhaust note from those 5 cylinder Audis.

  15. I accept that you do. The current Retail Price topic is an illustration that many, in the wider hobby, don't. I could see initial wailings starting in this topic so, to not have RSI of the eardrums, I thought it worth drawing a line before the predictable wailing and gnashing of teeth got to the chorus.
  16. ? Have we got to do all the hard work and guess what you should expend a bit of effort to say?
  17. So what do you all want? The devil's advocate gives you these choices... The factory loses money due to their increased costs since the project was started with staffing issues, power interruptions etc? The 'manufacturer' loses money due to their increased costs since the project started due to increased production costs, shipping costs, capital costs and distribution delayed? The customer 'loses' money since the announcement due to these increased costs through originally unforseen circumstances? There are no winners, the customer can do without if he wants and redirect the money towards paying his increased food and energy bills this year. Those higher up the supply chain don't have easy get out choices like that. Expect increases all around over the next 12 months+, I am hearing of significant cost revisions from the east against contracts already in place and even tooling being moved from one factory to another to try and mitigate against this. Or you could just wait until they're produced next time when they're even higher in price.
  18. In our press briefing last month I specifically asked if current issues had led to a reduction in production run quantities and was assured this was not the case. I had the W1 in mind but applied it as a general question to ask if any products had been affected. Therefore, different assumptions may be made.
  19. An interesting point (cheap pun) made. Just what are they comparing them to? A less accurate product or materials that would involve time and skills; or just what they think a business would charge based on their own extensive production and marketing skills?
  20. Maybe because those are the things that modellers (rather than acquisitors) need, it's rare I see anyone moaning about the price of track, as you say a lot of the noise is very lococentric. Maybe it's because the loco is a discretionary extra rather than fundamental to a layout and is a commodity which is easy to compare prices on. A few years back I was in a very good heritage railway shop that had probably the best selection of stock of a particular scale anywhere. By the racks stood a very typical hobby buyer taking everything off the racks and checking the price at a well known retailer on his phone. He wouldn't have been able to visit that retailer and see the depth of range on the shelf. I must admit that I told him what I thought and that it would be nice if he supported the shop and the railway with purchases there. He just chuntered and moved off. Every local shop has to suffer this to varying degrees from 'regulars' playing their local shop off against online prices through to those who will ask to see a model running and then turn round to say where they can get it cheaper. Some don't even display a hint of embarrassment at their behaviour. For the sake of your sanity and temper hold onto your retirement fund rather than risk it in the hands of this small but immensely irritating market sector!
  21. The first statement is relevant and, please, also bear in mind that the approach came from the Association rather than the other way around which puts the inferred criticism into context.
