  1. I had an SWD version that had a function button to increase the revs there was also a button to reduce it which may be F12 Never worked particularly well if I remember rightly Biffs sound projects definitely didn't have that function and neither did Howes. I would take a bet on it being an SWD project
  2. I did have a very early LB 37 on a V3.5 many moons ago . It had a class 25 triple pump whining away on start up 🤔 The one after that would be his Spa valley version which might not be on general sale these days . That version along with all his others can be seen on YouTube for comparison . The other main sound providers at that time would have been SWD and Howes
  3. I doubt anyone has had the sound chipped version yet . Someone would have uploaded a video on to YouTube by now
  4. Many thanks gents . Every day is a school day 😁
  5. Looks like etched wipers will be the order of the day as they seem to be absent .
  6. I believe Roads and Rails do a wired plug like that .
  7. Got mine today in weathered blue . Absolutely love it ! Much better weathering than the class 25/3's. No sprung buffers but hardly a drama. All in all , it really looks the part. Will give it a run on the weekend .
  8. The Lima and later Hornby railroad models weren't bad for the money . Did have a Railroad chassis married to a Lima golden ochre bodyshell and as you probably know the addition of laserglaze, fan etchings etc make it pretty presentable. The icing on the cake was Biffs V4 sound and an EM2 in the cavernous space inside . Certainly sounded like a ped . Behaved like one too ! 😁
  9. I've got a pic of D5803 somewhere in Western region territory Yes , they did look very smart in green FYE and double arrows too !
  10. I model the period between 1969 and 1972 with dallops of modellers license liberally spread so won't worry too much about the D prefix I can always call on my old friend. The bottle of T cut to take care of that . As for delivery dates ... who knows . It's like predicting the British weather 🙄
  11. Absolutely nothing at all with AS . I have a pre TOPS (D5544) version on order with them and if it's as good as D6703 that I acquired recently, then we're in for a real treat .
  12. It's a classic Zimo function usually found on various Diesel shunter projects . (F22/23 ) so will probably be left as a separate function rather than accompany the uncoupling function ....I hope !
  13. My thoughts exactly. Plus I do wish both Bachmann and Hornby would produce at least one banger blue loco (any class ! ) with pre tops numbers and 4 character headcodes
  14. Really hope all this duplication doesn't hurt all the manufacturers here .
  15. Yes but you'll have to use a quack to quack gauge to make sure it negotiates points and crossings 😁
  16. The greater the impedance , the quieter the sound will be , therefore, wiring in series doubles the impedance , wiring in parallel halves it . HOWEVER ,Wiring in Parallel may well damage the amp on a decoder if the impedance is half the recommended impedance on a decoder . Many ZIMO decoders are 8 Ohm impedance so will not be suitable for parallel wiring . sometimes , sticking with one speaker of the correct impedance is the best option. HTH
  17. If the new models are anything like the 24's , the bodyshells will be quite a tight fit to the chassis . Its been suggested that a good way to remove the bodyshell is to reattach the loco to its plinth after having first removed any bodyshell securing screws . This helps avoid handling damage to bogie frames / tanks when trying to separate the two .
  18. I'm sure Mr C will be along at some point to clarify this one way or the other .
  19. I'm sure someone will correct me but IMO , a 3 axle bogie in a model railway application with all 3 axles driven would be classed as having a C-C wheel arrangement , rather like the hydraulics and that is because the axles are not individually driven unlike a diesel electric which had a traction motor on each axle hence the addition of the small o after the B or C classification .
  20. Excellent work on the front cab window frames . looks the business .
  21. I believe { though I could be wrong} that the NBL class 21 was basically a diesel electric version of the western region's class 22 which of course had hydraulic transmission . Like yourself , I find the current offerings are not that great . One of the reasons I love sound chipped locos is the evocative memories that are inspired . It is however difficult to feel evocative about a loco whose sound I I and most others have never heard , There is one surviving MAN engine in working order from a class 22 that is housed inside a shipping container and there are videos on you tube demonstrating its operation and indeed its sound . Fingers crossed that one day , it might form the basis for a credible sound project , Till then , the offerings from Wheeltappers , Roads and rails and DC kits are the best currently on offer
  22. Look forward to seeing a few pics of these pootling around someone's layout to whet our appetites
  23. The as delivered class 33's didn't have tail lights fitted . Instead , they used the roller blinds set to show 2 red panels . The marker lights were white though someone recently pointed out to me that they may have had removable red lenses . In any case , many marker lights were plated over in later years . HTH
  24. I agree that traction tyres are indeed the work of the Devil but when I rewheeled my Lima Western with Ultrascale wheels at great expense , it could barely pull itself ! I hope that isn't the case for the original poster . I did have a lima Bubble car and both bogies apart from side frames were done away with and refitted wiith Black Beetle motor bogies though admittedly , that isn't a cheap option .
